Uniden UH35-2 Twin Pack UHF Handheld CB Radio $36 @ Harvey Norman ($34.20 @ Officeworks Price Beat)

240

I am in the market for a twin handheld radio, was looking for something cheap and durable. Came across some cheap unbranded ones but didn't want to take the risk, and then voila found these. they're currently priced $59 @ Officeworks, but with the price beat against the current price of HN $36 it works to be $34.20 if purchased at Officeworks.

This would be great for Scotty to keep in touch with the mods.

Last year I dug out my old CB radios and gave them to my son 5 year old as part of his present. New batteries is all we needed. He loves them, great gift idea for young kids.

Aldi are selling a set at the moment for $29.99. Can't comment on the quality though.

Also rechargeable with the charging docking station.

bought from Aldi yesterday, can't complain on its build and ease of use..

          • @WhatsTheBigDeal: Does it come with a cigarette charger or just wall charger?

            • @Villainous: Wall charger with a charging dock..
Edit: charging dock needs 7.5V with 500mA input, i guess USB charging won't work even if we have an appropriate cable.

    • These Aldi ones look much better tbh.

Cheaper ($30), rechargeable with charging station included (instead of having to buy your own), and comes with an inbuilt flashlight.
Great for around the house or camping.

Ignore the 5km stated range though… that's rubbish from 0.5W transmitters.

I bought the Aldi walkie-talkies and took them back. They didn't seem to be reliable even over 100m. Got them for kids to runaround on the block. Tested with my wife walking towards me and even at 200m line of sight she only received 50% of my checks.

        • Thanks for the review bud… that's what I'm looking for, actual hands on review. Cheers.

        • I got 200m out of them from house to house. Line of sight you might get 500m.

Note that these 0.5W units claiming 3km range is only at clear line of sight. Good for around the house but not so good when traveling in a large convoy.

    • Agree. For a large convoy, get a 5W handheld and attached to a roof-mounted antenna with magnetic base. I have a $40 Baofeng UV-82 and a $10 roof antenna, works well. Also have these Uniden UH35 twin pack, works well around house, backyard and park.

  • Same price at JB HiFi and good guys.

The 4 pack seems to be only that cheap at Harvey Norman.

Not sure what you intend on using these for OP but don't expect much more than a few hundred metres car to car or anywhere else without direct line of sight from 0.5W radios.

As others have said, good cheap fun for kids around camp.

  • I got the 3 pack for $48

Posters above are right, these are just really well built kids toys

  • Baofeng bf-t1 kids 1w radio two pack for $40aud on Ali Express
    Programming cable on eBay $6.50aud

    • Aren't these supposed to be better? Like doesn't the reprogramming open up CB frequencies too?

      • Better, but not 100% legal. Differing views as to the risks. Consensus seems to be if you lock it down properly to permitted channels low risk of getting caught, but I don't know anything about this stuff.

        • Do you really think the ACMA is going to track down a single 1 watt radio you bought off ebay? Maybe if you were in a fixed location with a 200watt transmitter, but as far as I can tell, this update just opens up CB channels for you too.

    • Actually, looks like programming it might not be that simple:. https://reddit.com/r/Baofeng/comments/6ta6k9/anybody_have_a_…

The Uniden UH45 3 pack has also been on sale, gets you Kids mode, a torch light and micro usb charging, though in store they still show as 85, they have been 59.

I think I need a set of these for when the family splits up during the boxing day sales. Work out who's grabbed what,

      WhatsApp group would be simple?

  • Because this is Ozbargain, it should be noted that Xiaomi do a pair of pretty impressive looking walkie talkies too.

    Not cheap though.

  • Thanks OP. I bought the last 3 boxes at Trinity Gardens SA (Officeworks). Sorry for being a broden
