Hi rep - whats the mess like underneath the unit? These things tend to dispense at the slightest wave and I'd be keen to know if this one suffers the same faults as others.

    • Hardly any and even if there is, it's just foam and won't be noticeable.

    • SO far, I have not found any similar problem. When you put hands under the dispenser, the bubble comes out quickly and stop instantly when your hands move away.

      • +1

so it doesnt dispense a fixed amount and keeps going if u leave your hand there?

        • Negative. It only dispenses a fixed amount then stops. If you want more, you move your hand away from the sensor then move it back again.

    • I have bought 5 recently with the 12% discount. All works well. Not overly sensitive at all.

I'm gonna give you to the count of 10, to get your ugly, yella, no-good keister off my property.

    • +1

Do I get to keep the change?

      • +1

only if you are a filthy animal

can it be refilled by your over the counter foam soaps from Dettol/woolies/etc?

    • Yea, would want to know this too. Has anyone tried, let us know.

      • +1

Takes some muscles but yes it is refillable. There's a YT vid of some Russian guy doing it.

          🧐

    • +3

If it couldn't, then what would be the point of it?

    • I have one of these and it is pretty painful to refill. I ended up having to drill a hole in the top of the cartridge to refill it. Tried everything to get the cap off without breaking it but failed. They work really well though.

      • Try looking for the Russian video I mentioned above.

Refilled mine at least twice now without issues but like I said, takes a bit of muscles ;)

        • Russian drilling hole refill soap?

This one from dettol was being sold for $5 few days back only and is of very good quality. Even now it is just for $12

I have two of these and both are still going strong after a couple of years.

      • How long ~on average~ cartridge and battery last?

        • +1

I've only changed the batteries once in both dispensers in that time, and the soap cartridges will last for 2-4 months depending on usage.

    • +6

Some Mi products like the umbrella and this are pointless. The Dettol dispenser is so much cheaper. What's the point of Xiaomi if it's not a "cheap equivalent version" of an item?

      • +1

        exactly

      • Xiaomi are becoming a bit like Apple . They USED to be cheap alternatives but not so much anymore .

        • Apple never USED to be cheap.

    • +2

Some prefer gel, some prefer foam. Some people prefer the good ol' bar of soap. It's called "options".

I had the Dettol one as well. It was the older model and I didn't like it because it dispense IMO too much gel.

    • +2

I previously used the dettol one before I got one of these. Dettol one would chew through batteries, go off randomly and was also more expensive to refill as you had to but their refill. These can be filled with any liquid soap. These are painful to refill (see my comment above) however they work really well.

      • I had the older Dettols and they were a PITA, failing, pumping out randomly, chewing through batteries. But the new, shorter models are great. I have 3 and have had no problems since getting them 6 months ago. 1 battery change for each (rechargeables). And refilling is very easy, just pry open the top with a spoon or knife and refill with whatever you like. It doesn't foam, which is my preference but great to have choices.

  • Can you refill with any hand liquid soap?

    • No … unless you want to get out that drill from the toolshed.

  • +2

    Have one, works well.

Sensor isn't too sensitive - haven't had it activate from other movement even once.

Bottle is definitely refillable without drilling into it. Takes a bit of force the first time to twist the top off, but now it's reasonably easy to do.

Battery life is good - replaced the batteries just last week and realised it was still using the originals from when I received it in March. This is with daily use in our main bathroom, and is the only soap dispenser in there.

Will be buying another for the kitchen.

  • Bought one in China, its good but this is overpriced. Only cost about 18 bucks after conversion there.

  • +1

I have one that can take any liquid soap from supermarket, no battery needed and voice activated - 'Honey, squeeze some soap for me please'

    • +1

You will be sleeping on the street tonight.

  • Do you have to buy their refill, or can you refill the unit with normal hand wash?
