Since it isn't available at 2 of your 5 locations, perhaps you should put the locations where it is available in the title of this post?

    drone pilots in the sky

Why would a drone pilot be in the sky? Can't they control the drones from land?

    Lmao

Looks like I can still use a drone commercially if it's less than 2kg.

OP, how much is your ReOC? CASA says ReOC is also required to fly the drone.

      Thanks for the question,

So this is where things get interesting, please bear with me:

You are 100% correct. You can fly commercially if your drones take of weight is less than 2kg (subject to a number of restrictions relating to operating conditions). However with the industry growing and as drone technology evolves, most professional contracted jobs (surveying ect) require heavier drones or accessories. This is where the RePL comes in.

In order to fly these larger drones, you will require a RePL. You then have two options.

      1) Do you want to start your own drone business
      2) Do you want to work as a pilot for someone else's drone business

If you want to start your own business, you will need a ReOC (Remote Operators Certificate) this allows you to complete your own commercial jobs independently and also allows you to employ other RePL pilots who can then fly under your ReOC.

If you want to pilot heavier drones but dont mind flying under someone else's ReOC, you will only need your RePL. There are a number of companies that allow you to complete jobs under their ReOC for a small monthly subscription.

Now to answer your question: We offer an express ReOC which allows you to get approved within 6-8 weeks as opposed to the 10 months quoted by CASA. A ReOC on its own will set you back $2525 on top of the RePL course. I don't recommend this, instead if you were looking for both your ReOC and RePL I highly suggest looking at our Silver, Gold or Platinum packages as you get a lot more for the same amount of money.

If you have any questions please give us a call. It will be much easier to explain that way :)

2kg seems quite limiting. How heavy is a MQ-9 Reaper with a full payload of 4 AGMs and a JDAM? Asking for a friend.

  • Nothing in Melbourne?

I'm eventually planing on getting a Matrice 200 series… so I want my ReOC and RePL… any suggestions on where to get it in Melbourne?

    • We do have a couple of training dates in February 2019 in Melbourne. Since the RePL is online there is a bit of flexibility here in adding a ReOC for you. If you give us a call we can come up with something that is suitable for you :)
