Do we have to buy the SSD's within the promotional period to be eligible for Cashback? Is that how this works?
Edit: misread the post, I thought for a second this ends 30th November, but it's actually December lul

    • Wouldn't it make more sense to comment on the cashback post instead?

      • yeah sorry, I misread the date and was going to point out we couldn't redeem the offer but we are still within the promotional period :) My bad

Literally a month ago I bought a WD Blue 500GB SSD for $99 and now pretty much for the same price I can get this Samsung 512GB 860 Evo. I'm hurting but at the same time I'm happy to see quality SSDs fall so much in price in such a short amount of time. Question is how much lower can it possibly go?

    • A lot lower.

      I'm expecting 2TB 860 EVOS for $200 by June 2019.

      • Thinking about buying a 1TB myself. Right now it's around $150 with the cashback thing. You think it'll get any lower by Christmas time, or the same old 20% off sort of deal as we have now? Hoping for it to go down to $100-120s but not sure if that's realistic or not.

  • it's just deal after deal on these thing. How low can they go

    • Stock of bigger models would be good…

  • Is this the lowest $/GB SSD there is?

  • Great price! Nice post.

  • Noob question, can I use this 500GB SSD to migrate all of the contents which are about 300GB from my 1TB HDD or do I need to get SSD of equivalent size. TIA :)

edit: Read somewhere that Samsung migration software will shrink your partition to fit the SSD provided data on HDD is less than the SSD but 100% not sure of it. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Cheers.

If you have less than 500GB of data on your HDD it should be able to clone the contents and OS onto the SSD. I haven't tried or looked into what happens if you have more data on the HDD than is available on the SSD.

      • Thanks Mate. I did purchase one, will see how it goes :)

Acronis, Macrium etc are your friend in regards to cloning :)

  • Is these v-nand MLC or TLC?

    • TLC

      • Thanks, Samsung spec had it as 3bit MLC, that kind of threw me off. But based on its price I should have knew. Never the less bought it for home lab server.
