  • Good price. 11% back with CR makes it even better.

    • Are these worth it? I’d imagine you’ll need a fair bit just to get something decent.

      • +1

They're probably not worth it in the sense that they're not NEEDED, but they work well and give a nice accent lighting behind my TV unit as well as my computer desk.

The 2M length of these fit perfectly behind my desk and I needed to trim one section for the TV unit so you can definitely get some good effects with just a single strip.

You can also buy 1m extensions and extend up to 10M from memory.

I have mine above a pelmet in a room with a sloped ceiling and it is fantastic.

        You can see it here

This shows the light strip as being much brighter than it actually seems - in reality it's really pleasant.
My wife thought my hue lights would be just a geeky toy for me, but she really loves them now too.

        • What's the eyebrow looking thing in the top right corner?

          • +1

@EDM: It's the wing of a wooden bird that hangs from the ceiling lol!

        • Do you need to plug these in somewhere?

          • @nightelves: We had some work done on the house and got the electrician to install a power point behind the curtains for this purpose.

The power cord is long enough to reach the ground but our F&% cat would chew them if it got 1/2 the chance.

      • So are these x5 times better than those LED strip you can buy from China for like $10?

        • Link me to your amazing $10 ones so I can answer that for you.

          • @unco: I don't know if they amazing or not, but just comparing.

            • +1

@boomramada: Incompatible with smart home. A better comparison would be to Xiaomi Yeelight strip which go for ~$50 on Gearbest, so $80 for a Philips version isn't that bad.

            • @boomramada: I had one of those a while back, had to activate it using the remote which annoyed me.

I use the Hue dimmer switches which have replaced the regular wall switches in my home and can activate different scenes etc. Also being able to control it by my phone and Homekit is worth it to me.

Don't get me wrong, the strips do exactly the same thing fundamentally (lights things up) but the Hue gives added functionality which the geek in me likes.

              • @unco: Well did a quick search, those $10 led strip and https://www.ebay.com.au/i/202299680368?chn=ps will get you a same result for $25. For 5m strip. Support both google and amazon. So this is way over price.

                • @boomramada: The price is for reliability and convenience, which I would pay for. I have the lightstrip and 5 other lights linked to the one dimmer. Another room with 10 lights to a dimmer. No need to use my phone or explain how to use it to guests. But each to their own.

  • Are these the things people attach to the rear of their big screen TV's to create a backlighting effect?

  • Does anyone know if this needs the Hue Bridge to work? I have LIFX scattered around the house, but would like a simple strip light to attached under a shelf in the kitchen.

Thinking of combining this and the Philip Hue Dimmer switch to make a simple setup….

    • +1

You need hue bridge to work all the philips hue lights

    • Pretty sure you need the bridge unless you have a Echo Plus with the built in hub.

    • I've got the Philips Hue Smart Tap Switch which is great - 4 buttons which can all be programmed, and no batteries!

You can have off/low/med/high (whatever colours you want) or you could have off/down/up/full on etc.

Not sure how that compares with the other switch though…

      • Huw Dimming switch is better.
Dimming got 4 buttons. Each button can have multiple actions - 1st click, 2nd click, 3rd click, Hold.
I have both. I like dimming switch better.

      • I have both. The dimmer has better functionality, however the tap is much more reliable. The dimmers often lose connectivity whereas the tap has never let me down. I use the tap at front of house to set entire home scenes.

        • Over the last few years Dimming switch lost connection once. Reset fixed it.
Tap switch sometimes is not registering the press.
For me Dimming switches are more reliable.

          • @SickDmith: I think it depends on how congested or complex your 2.4 network is. I've got 5 dimmers, probably 50 2.4 wifi devices and 35 hue/osram lights. I think the osrams might contribute to connection loss but haven't had a single issue with the tap.

    • It's a pretty big outlay just for one light, especially if you're going to stick with using a warmer white or singular colour range.

The power of these really comes out hooking them up to hue sync which seems like overkill for a kitchen.

  • I thought that Bunnings wouldn't price match without there being a physical store?

    • They do price match & beat with amazon

      • Damn. Local Bunnings doesnt stock the range, so called the next shop over before I drove out and they said unless you can find a physical storefront, we wont price match.

Just ended up grabbing at the amazon price.

        • I went to Bunnings (Eltham Vic) and they price matched…

          • @SirDale: My local Bunnings price beat by 10% . I bought 2 for $156.42

        • +1

According to Bunnings website that they should price match with Amazon Au cuz Bunnings states that they would beat any online store and physical store in AU. BUT they would only beat products sold by Amazon AU itself and not other shops on Amazon.

I went to a store in Alexandria NSW for this sale Monday 6pm and they agreed to price match after calling up someone (store manager I assume) but sadly Bunnings had already decreased the price to match Amazon. So I ended up getting fro Amazon and get the cashback (only 8% monday night but it was 11% monday morning)

  • Anyone kniw much about Amazon Us? They’re selling the light strip for $60 and $8 import tax to Australia.

    • That comes to $94 AUD. GET from Bunnings for $78.20

    • Should confirm if the adapter supports 240v. The bulbs are no go…

  • +1

AARGH!! I bought this from a Bunnings when they dropped to match Amazon at 99.10!
Mind you, have had a great weekend for cashback, so you win some you lose some.

    • +1

😊 they dropped again to match amazon at 86.90!!

  • +1

Bunnings reduced the price to $ 86.90 to match with Amazon. 😊

  • Try Officeworks they price beat by 5%. They have this for $124, 5% price beat with Bunnings, that come down to $82.56!!!! 😀

  • Thanks OP! Just scored one from Officeworks with price beat.

  • I went to Bunnings yesterday and asked them to price match with Amazon.com.au and the staff at the counter said "It has to be the exact same product".

Then she looked at the name of the product time in Amazon website and said the product name has the word "Dimmable" on it (see below), whereas their Philip Hue lightstrip product does not have the word "Dimmable" on the box, so it's not the same item.
And I was like "wtf??…" so anyways, I'm not gonna bother going to Bunnings for price match again. This was the Bunnings on Burwood Rd, Hawthorn.

"Philips Hue LightStrip Plus Dimmable LED Smart Light - Two Metre (Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant)"

    • Just show them in philips hue website that, there is only ine product in the name of 'philips hue light strip plus'
