We start with the revolutionary wedge-shaped handle. Perfect weight, seamless finish & perfectly polished. This involves heat, precision & years of training.

The blade. Using only high grade Japanese stainless steel, we ground into shape and polish for a super smooth surface.

Are Furi knives any good? Looking to grab the East/West Gift set with the Diamond sharpener.

It's the same designer guy behind the Solidteknics pans.

      http://www.solidteknics.com/about/

If the knives are anywhere near as good as his pans, then these are the bee's knees.

    • Yes, they are.

      • Sorry but with all due respect I'm going to have to disagree. The last word I heard on Furi was that they were very orverpriced for what they were - which is a very middle of the road knife. As a brand they rely a LOT on celebrity chef marketing etc and many of their 'benefits'/features on their knives were very questionable at best.

On Knife forums they copped a lot of flak over these and other questionable claims - now this isn't to say they're a bad product but the end thought was they were no better than something like a Victorinox (which is ALWAYS the recommended bang for buck brand).

Anyway DYOR and I'm sure you'll find a lot of info on them - I did when I last checked but CBF'd doing now.

They are also reportedly very soft (around 52HRC), so be prepared to sharpen them often. For similar pricing you could probably pick up something like a Tojiro DP.

          • @cplagz: Looking at the Tojiro now, buying it as a gift, what sharpener would you recommend? This is just for a home cook nothing special, so easy use system like those Minosharps would be ideal.

            • @SuBw00FeR:

              what sharpener

I use Spyderco with extra fine stones.

Had a Minosharp but sold it.

Find the Spyderco much better, but it's more expensive.

No, they aren't soft and hold their edge really well.

Had mine for years and don't have to sharpen them often.

            • @Scab: How old? The old fury knives were much better then the modern ones

              • @Seedy seed: About 20y, bought an entire set with a knife block from a Myer sale.

Think they were $120, normally wouldn't buy a set, but the price was too enticing.

    • I had knives snap in half. The brand has been taken over by a different company since.

With all these knives - make sure you check house online first - 25% off which with some knives is cheaper than 50% off rrp. Doesn’t include delivery though

If you're going to spend decent money on knives, just get Global knives. As a home cook, you seriously don't need anything better.

The other option is to buy a couple of Kiwi knives for about $6 each at your local Asian grocer and replace them every 6 months. They are as sharp as anything on the market and at that price, you can replace them as often as you like.

I bought some Baccarat iD3's and when new they were alright, but I prefer my Kiwi knives now.

Couldn't agree more. I used to be a professional chef and had all the fancy knifes in the world including a few pricy hand-maded Japanese ones. But for work, I always used Kiwi knifes. They are dirt cheap, very sharp, light and don't need special care.

And cant be resharpened because they are made from hardened cheese, they are hollow ground which is why they are sharp

        • +1

Actually, I found knives with softer steel worked for me better as I could sharpen them faster with a sharpener. It's a work habit that I sharpen my knife before I use it every single time, only takes me 2s to do it. For knives made with harder steel, you need a few wet stones with different grades, and follow proper procedures to sharpen them.

          And cant be resharpened

CRAP. They hold their edge for at least a few months with daily home use then after spending 60 seconds running them through a knife sharpener they are as sharp as a bloody razor again and last just as long. Some of mine have been sharpened 4 or 5 times.

They are dirt cheap, very sharp, light and don't need special care.

Sums it up perfectly. For most people it's all they will ever need.

          • @Dontreadthis: Well they can be obviously i ment you cant rehollow grind them (unless you know how i guess)

  • Anyone after these knives that missed out there is another sale on

    BOXING50, can't be bothered submitting a deal..
