    Wow, thanks OP!

    • No problem. What's the final price that you paid?

      • +1

$107.50 delivered for the black coloured one & 1% cashback with cashrewards

  • +1

Great price - any ideas if this is an SMR drive?

  • Great price - some might prefer to buy with in Australia though since it has 3-year warranty here and only 1-year US warranty I think.

    • +7

being a Seagate 1 year is plenty of time for it to fail on you lol.

      • Yeah but usually the replacement will only have warranty until the end of the original year - at least in AUS you get 3 years of hard drives.

Thanks OP. Final price for me was $106.00 (inc GST) delivered to QLD.

I've had more failures with WD

    • +5

Why the neg for that comment? I've had more failures with WD and you can't shuck the portables AFIK.

  • WD once failed on me and it was so painful to lose all the data! Is there anything that can be done?

    • +3

You can take it to a data recovery specialist and pay a couple hundred dollars to get your data.

The other option is to treat any data you only have one copy of as lost already, you should really have at least 2 copies of anything important. Office 365 is great value for 1TB of cloud storage.

    • keep at least 3 copies of anything you wish to consider "safe" and even then that's the BARE minimum.

EDIT: and don't buy these trash hard drives with integrated SATA controllers.

      • Have no idea what that means and why they are not good

        • +2

if the sata controller gets fked up (part that connects the usb to hard drive), even though the hard drive is fine you wont be able to access it.

      • Is this one of those drives ?

        • Sorry, wrong post… Can you delete comments?

          • @Punkboy: Yes just edit & delete all the text in your comment and put the word "delete" and the site will give you a link to remove it

  • Not a bad deal thanks heaps!

  • Thanks OP! Been waiting on a good deal for these. Paid $106 to metro sydney.

  • For people who wants WD instead can buy it here $118.8 (with cashrewards) or $105 (with amex deal $15 off $100 + cashrewards)

Don't get WD portable drives. If you open the casing the USB connector is soldered onto the drive so if something goes wrong you can't directly plug it into a desktop to recover the data.

The Seagate & Toshiba drives have a regular SATA connector with USB adaptor plugged in so you can just unplug it and use the SATA directly into your PC for recovery.

      • Thanks, I hope the drive will last for sometimes. I don't use it much anyway.

  • Seems the price has gone up to 137.50 (inc gst).

Have you apply the NEWEGG2018AUS promo code? 😄

      • +1

I see, 107 is for the first one. I wanted two. But I think US is too far away for warranty and posting. I dropped one from 50cm and killed it.

  • looks like their exchange rate changed. I only paid $106 at the end.

    • Got one, thanks OP.

  • +1

Thanks Op, I had been eyeing off a 2tb version, but for $20 more, why not double up!

Same drive here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/420092 for $91.40.

    • It's not the same drive.
