I was pretty tempted by the Oculus Rift VR set, but given Im mainly after it to play racing games which only need head movement, rather than physical movement (and after a comment in the thread suggested the Explorer) I went this way.

A good entry into VR headsets, especially if you don't need motion controllers (e.g. racing games).

Check shipping prices, DHL Express ($26) was faster than DHL Standard ($29) for me.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2018

Doesn't come with controllers and it is very very difficult to find some! I've looked and only found some that need to be imported.

    • Yeah, this is mainly for those who will use it with other control devices. Sim use is the intended application for me.

    • Where?

      • Found some on best buy in the us. And eBay US had a few used ones. But cost more than the headset. If you find any let me know.

    Ends up costing

    Subtotal: USD $119.99
    AUD $ 165.71
    Shipping: USD $26.93
    AUD $ 37.19
    You Pay: USD $146.92
    AUD $ 202.90

This comes from the US, so you'll still have to pay 10% GST (as it's an import) and you won't deal with a local Oz warranty.

Amazon has one for AUD $ 227 including GSTs.

    Not worth it!

B&H don't charge GST at this time, presumably under the threshold.

Amazon.com.au are selling from a US seller, so no local warranty.

Charge to my 28 degrees is $198, so still a good deal.

GST threshold no longer exists. All items imported into Australia are to be charged GST.

However it is up to the seller to collect GST and forward it to the ATO. If they do not, your goods may be held pending you paying GST.

No they won't stop spreading FUD.

DogGunn Where are you getting this info? The gst threshold for being required to be registered to collect gst still exist. If there is a seller who exports less than $75,000 of goods to Australia they are not required to collect gst AND if the total value of each shipment is less then $1,000 customs won’t charge it either.

It’s no different to smal businesses in Australia that are not required to be registered for gst due to their turnover being less than $75,000.

All that being said I’m sure BH Photo export more than $75,000 of goods to Australia but may have some legal loophole in place that can’t be applied by eBay and other stores.

    • I don't know why I got downvoted (probably by the shop representatives).
Just do the math and be aware of what Doggunn mentioned here.
The Threshold for GST no longer exists and ANYTHING coming to Australia now has to pay GST.

If GST is not collected by the vendor, it's up to you to pay for it, and your items will be held by customs (creating delays and headaches).

  • Better be quick though. The online checkout is going to close for Jewish Shabbat in a few hours.
