Cancelling a Shipped Amazon Order?

Hi

I ordered something from Amazon yesterday but I want to have it cancelled. However, it was shipped out this morning so the option is no longer available under my account. Can I refuse to accept it on delivery to get a full refund?

Thanks

EDIT: Amazon stopped it manually (because it was their problem to begin with) and I'm getting a refund.

  • Basically, yes. I had the same question: You’re allowed to refuse the delivery and you’ll be eligible for a refund.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to hawk the postie, just accept the parcel and flag it with Amazon support - They’re quite friendly!

    • How sure are you? This makes no sense - I can just buy things from Amazon and if I change my mind when it's delivered I get a refund?

[edit: yes apparently this is the case. hm.]

    [edited: It depends]

IIRC, you can cancel Amazon orders until they're shipped - that's a perk they offer customers, not a right that you have.

    Amazon's returns policy is:

Under the Amazon AU returns policy you may return most new, unopened items sold and fulfilled by Amazon AU within 30 days of receipt of delivery for a full refund of the price you paid for the item. Unless otherwise stated, shipping costs are not refunded. Some products have different policies or requirements associated with them. Please also check the details for items that are not returnable.

  • Just accept the delivery and return it, that is the fastest way for you to get a refund rather than somehow refusing delivery and waiting for it to find its way back to Amazon

    • But will I have to pay for return delivery? Amazon's site says to look for the "FREE RETURNS" tag, but there isn't one for my purchase. It's actually sold by Amazon AU.

I am not sure to be honest. Worst case just pay for the return shipping - let's be honest it is your fault that you changed your mind - it is only fair that you pay the return shipping costs.

Edit - this should answer your questions:

        • I actually tried cancelling at 11am when the status was still 'Ordered', but the option wasn't available. The status changed to 'Shipped' only at 12:45pm. I don't know why they stripped away the Cancel option almost 2hrs before shipping.

          • @mun4: OK, they're getting it back from AUSPOST. All good!

          • @mun4: Probably because there's time involved in processing a refund, and they don't want to finish processing a refund request only to find out the item's just been shipped. Still, good to hear it got resolved.

Though seriously, given the number of posts we get about this kind of stuff - how about just making up your mind before hitting the "buy" button?

why wouldn't you raise this question with AMAZON?

    • There doesn't seem to be a support form or email.

Edit: I've found their contact page on Google.

  • Im a seller on Amazon US and Aus. and basically Amazon accepts pretty much all returns - no questions asked from the buyers. so you will be fine to return the item. Theres tons of groups on facebook that always discuss this topic. It annoys sellers. but at least gives the buyers peace of mind.

This is a bad policy for other Amazon customers that don't change their mind. They're paying more for their widgets because of the pita customers.

  • Yes, don't accept delivery. Just return to sender, and communicate that with the seller.

    • Will do. Thanks.
