Audio Modeling are having a Black Friday special on all of their virtual instruments - 20% off individual instruments or 35% off their bundles.
(Note, some of their "single instruments" are actually a collection e.g. four saxophones, but their bundles are where they combine multiple instruments/collections into one. They're flagged as bundles so it's clear.)
If you don't know what DAWs, VSTs or MIDI are I suggest you keep trawling OzBargain for more relevant deals! This is aimed squarely at people writing music on their PCs or Macs, and more specifically ones who are looking to create extremely realistic sounding "real" instruments. They're also tackling the instruments that have historically been hard to do virtual versions of such as woodwinds and strings, not pianos and drums which are already well covered.
TIP: Change the region/currency to USD and use a international fee-free credit card such as 28 degrees to get the best price. The AUD and GBP prices from what I can tell are inflated by about 15%, but that's based on Googled exchange rates. Check your own card's rates to be sure.
Instruments:
* Double bass
* Cello (was US$120 now US$96 or AU$132)
* Viola (was US$120 now US$96 or AU$132)
* Violin (was US$120 now US$96 or AU$132)
* [bundle] Solo strings - dbl bass, cello, viola and violin (was US$480 now US$312 or AU$430)
* SWAM Saxophones - baritone, tenor, alto and soprano (was US$250 now US$200 or AU$276)
* SWAM Flutes - normal, bass, alto and piccolo (was US$250 now US$200 or AU$276)
* SWAM Clarinets - normal and bass (was US$170 now US$136 or AU$187)
* SWAM Double Reeds - oboe, English horn, bassoon and contrabassoon (was US$250 now US$200 or AU$276)
* [bundle] SWAM Woodwinds - sax, flutes, clarinets and double reeds (was US$920 now US$598 or AU$824)
For the woodwinds I'd recommend a MIDI breath controller like the TEControl BBC2. For the strings you'll need a MIDI controller with loads of knobs and probably an expression pedal, or you can also try your luck with a Leap Motion and the Geco MIDI app.
A bit of history: these were previously sold by a company called Sample Modeling, who licensed the SWAM engine from these guys, but there was a bit of a falling out, some legal tussles etc., and then they sorted it out and agreed to sell their respective libraries under separate companies. Sample Modeling now only sells their Trumpet 3, Trombone 3 and French horn & tuba instruments. And they're not doing anything for Black Friday! :(
Hope this is useful for the handful of digital musos here on OzBargain! I'm sorely tempted myself but the Minister of Finance is already a bit unhappy with my recent spending patterns.
Note the comment I added about what you'll need to use these instruments properly in your DAW… You need to know what you're doing with your music software and MIDI controllers to make good use of these, or some time to dedicate to learning!
