  • ordered 2x for only AU$26.35

  • Interested on the xiaomi temp and humidity sensor, are there any good for nursery room? Thanks

    • Yes they are

    • They work fine. I have one in each room. The main downside is that you have to pull out your phone to check the temperature.
I ended up buying a separate system like this to put in each room. https://www.amazon.com/TS-WS-07-X2-Wireless-Thermometer-Hygr…

I also have a large screen temp/humidity meter that I bought for $5off of eBay in the nursery so I can read the temp at a distance.
I would agree that three different systems is overkill, but each has pros and cons for convenience.

      • I would say remotely being able to view the temperature is a pro but also being able to activate a heater once the temperature drops below a certain temp is also good with the Xiaomi plugs

      • You can use Home-Assistant to alert you of any major changes in temperature and turn on fan or heater etc

    • You can stick them anywhere, just keep out of reach as they have a button battery

    • I was going to get one for all the room, but I found out the MI air filters already have a built-in temp and humidity sensor. I already had one of those in each of the kids rooms

  • Im interested to know what people would use this for?

    • for example. You come home at night and this thing together with the gateway hub will turn the lights on if it picks up motion and also it's dark in the room. Then if no motion after xxx minutes, turn the lights off.

      • Does this actually detect motion like that? Reading the description it detects if the device vibrates or moves rather than monitor if it sees motion in the room.

I am curious as to if I could for example put this on my front door and detect via vibration if someone knocks.

        • why not just have a motion sensor for when someone comes to door, or a mi switch that someone would press like a door bell

          • @asa79: I have a motion sensor on my door but it gets set off randomly, I think the mi sensors are too sensitive to be used outdoors.

The mi switch is a good idea, only prob is it doesn't look much like a door bell. Maybe I'll give it a go.

      • As above. I believe this detects motion of itself

        • I've got one. It's a vibration sensor. Aqara also make a PIR movement sensor.

      • This isnt a human motion sensor, this detects vibrations and g sensor type motion

    • I'm planning to use mine to alert me via Telegram if my roller doors have been left open for too long because I've had a scenario where I accidentally hit the roller door button when putting down my keys and left it open overnight.

      • Thanks. Ive used the door sensor for this exact method. If its been left open for longer than 20mins my google home says 'Garage door left open' repeatedly until its closed

      • Door sensors would make more sense for you're purpose wouldn't they?

        • They would both do the same job, as this would sense once for going up and then sense again for going down

          • @asa79: Use the tilt function to detect if the door is up or not. Effectively checking if the top section of the garage door is horizontal (open) or vertical (closed).

I have a metal sectional roll-up garage door and I couldn't get a good spot for a magnetic reed switch that would trigger reliably. Heat expansion would sometimes trigger false positives.

Another option was to just get a big (profanity)-off magnet to replace the little one that comes with the door/window sensors, but this seemed more elegant.

            • @KentT: Your thinking of the smartthings version that has that

              • @asa79: No, that's the one.

Possibly not accessible through the Mi Home app, but home-assistant should have it. Something like this:

                trigger:
                - platform: event
                event_type: xiaomi_aqara.movement
                event_data:
                entity_id: binary_sensor.vibration_sensor
                movement_type: tilt

ETA: Hmm.. not sure if I actually ended up using that now, but it was definitely on there.
Here's how another guy solved it with 'coordination'

                • @KentT: You better of doing a door/window, as you might still have an open garage where this records it as closed just becuase its only telling you that it moved, not that it stopped by someone using the garage door emergency stop when they put a leg or something under the closing door

      • That's a neat way to do it. I have wired up a reed switch to the top edge of the door so that if it is open even 1cm, a rather bright LED light will be lit in the lounge (wall backing on to garage). I did this because we didn't have any internal access to the garage and it had been left open a number of times, and we even had stuff stolen on one occasion.

Might need to look into updating to a wireless Xiaomi sensor to achieve notifications.

As for my other planned use, one of the following: automatic door bell for the front door, or a notifier for when my kids are out of bed and heading down the hallway so we can head them off at the pass before they make it to our room.

        • I have done the same but using the xiaomi automation kit.

    • I bought 2 when they were preorder. Arrived yesterday. Going to put in the glovebox of each car. If we forget to lock the cars, we can tell when someone opens the glove box. Both times we left the cars unlocked in the last 5 years someone went through our cars.

I use Home Assistant (HASS.IO) for everything.

      • What suburb you are in?

        • Sounds like he's from Compton, USA

    • You can use it under mattress to tell you how you slept supposedly, not sure if it matches to a sleep IQ function or not.

Movement of doors, it will tell you of the slightest movement of anything

  • can these control Lifx Lights? Via IFTTT or Alexa or Homekit

    • It's a motion sensor, it does not control lights, LIFX or otherwise. If you had a Xiaomi Gateway, homeassistant and a bit of orchestration, it can do what you want i guess.

    • You will probably require homeassistant for this

    • using Home assistant or openhab they can control Lifx lights

  • This is not the infrared motion sensor that you might have seen before. This is a vibration sensor which is a relatively new offfering from Xiaomi and from the reviews I’ve read it is fairly average and won’t pick up vibrations from a washing machine for instance, but would pick up a roller door opening and closing.

  • "monitor user's bed activity" … interesting :)

  • +1

attach to all your TVs so they will let you know if someone is stealing them

Put it on washing machine so you are alerted when its finished

  • Review, this might help people understand what it does https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_KwZbgR8Xk
