Hi guys!
Been looking for a big SD card to put in my Tab S4 I got from the Optus deal, and noticed that the 400GB Sandisk card from Amazon has dropped once again to $161.97
Paired with the 11% cashrewards would bring the price down to $144.15, not a bad price for 400gb I think!

Edit: noticed that the link no longer takes you to the $161.97 price but the $169.85 price, however it still shows up under 'other sellers: Amazon US'

400gb in a micro sd is absolute madness. I remember my first usb stick was 64mb, and i'm only 25. Time moves fast man.

Those were the days, still find it crazy how we have 16tb hard drives

    • +8

No one will ever need more than 640K RAM.

No one needs to fulfil this quote in every thread, it's not obligatory :p

        • +3

Considering Bill Gates claims he never said that, it seems to be one of those made up things too. Plus RAM is not the same as a storage medium.

    • My first PC had a 4.3GB HDD back in 1999.

      • +3

Luxury! My first proper PC had a 40MB HDD!

        • +1

Luxury! I did not even own a PC back then!

        • +2

My first PC was an IBM PS/2 model 30 286 with a whopping 20MB HDD. Windows 3.1 took up about 15MB, so that lasted 5 minutes before I reverted back to DOS only.

          • @Joxer: hehe very understandable! Are you sure it was Windows 3.1? I got 3.0 with mine in 1990, but 3.1 didn't come out until 1992.

            • @redhaze1: My first PC didn't even have a hard drive - just 360kb floppy drive!

              • @mingofmongo: My first computer (which I consider pre-PC) was an Atari system with a cassette tape drive. Later we bought a floppy drive which could store 90KB - ouch, I didn't know it was that little!

                • @redhaze1: Atari 400? I remember it was one of the options when I was looking for my first computer - choices were the Atari 400, a Microbee 16k, a Commodore VIC-20, a Sinclair ZX80/ZX81 or a Dick Smith "Super 80".

I got the VIC20 - it had the possibility of upgrading to a floppy disk, but the floppy disk drive cost more than the computer!

                  • +1

@Russ: Close! It was slightly, newer: Atari 800XL. Lots of good times using that now ancient piece of technology!

        • +1

Luxury, indeed! My first PC had 1K RAM and a cassette drive way back in 1980. At school we used development boards that had to be programmed on the fly with a hex keypad, and no way to save what you did…

        • +5

Luxury! All we had was a cardboard box!

          • @vlahka: Cardboard box? We used to dream of livin in cardboard box. There was 156 of us living in a hole in middle of road. We used to work 26 hours a day down at the mill and when we got home our dad would kill us and dance around on our graves singing Hallelujah…if we were lucky!!!!

        • +2

Luxury. I wrote my first program in BASIC using punch-cards. Our science teacher took us to Mt. Lawley college (WA) to get them executed and result printed.

          • @AlexF:

Our science teacher took us to Mt. Lawley college (WA) to get them executed

            Seems harsh.

      • We had a 40Mb hard drive I think with Win95 that regularly crashed with an 'illegal operation (some) .dll exemption" and we lost everything we were working on since last save. Happened every few hours.

        • That was a feature of win95. Very futuristic at the time.

    • At least you had USB stick. I remember when we had floppy discs to install games.

      • +1

I was still around for floppies lol, i didn't get the usb stick until grade 6/7 i think. I remember my primary school had a digital camera that took floppies. Which is hilarious.

        • I'm pretty sure you meant to type 52 and not 25 :p Because I'm older than you by a margin, and I swear that shiz didn't happen.

          • +1

@justtoreply: Nope - it was called the sony mavica, released in 1997 haha.

    • 28 here and I remember having a Motorola Rokr E1 and going to the computer swapmeets with my dad and picking up a 16 or 32mb transflash card as they were called back then. I remember transcoding a bunch of music into he-aac and was amazed at how I managed to cram like 50 songs onto it lol

It's nice they've kept the same form factor.

Another 14h at time of posting

    *edit for poor maths

    • +6

Not sure I'd buy a sandisk from 'just anywhere'. Including the bigger chinese sites.

    • This is still bad maths - 63USD

      • +1

I'm unaware of this fake SD card business, but I assumed because JoyBuy is pretty trustworthy and accepts PayPal, that deal would be quite good?

        • +1

I'm not suggesting its a good or bad deal, just that old mate did the math wrong even after the edit. (67-5-5)*1.1 is ~63 not 73.

          • @Wilburre: Cheers mate, you are right it does add to 63 not 73. My maths teacher will be so disappointed

But somehow lost the option to make further edits

Thanks for this, just paid 73.69 USD through paypal using my AMEX

      • They say 30-40 days for shipping - is that true? I also see that they will ship between 11/11 - 13/11 - so really getting confused

        • They will ship it then, but it's slow shipping from China.

    • +1

How do you get $5USD off paypal? I wasn't able to get it. Paid $96.66 AUD

Do I really need 10,000,000 photos on one card… yes.

    • You must love yourself to death with that many selfies. ;)

    • +14

Yo mama so fat, she needs 400GB of 10,000,000 shots to make a panorama portrait of her!

  • +2

Just remember its a U1 card only so might not be suitable for people needing the higher speed (e.g. 4k cameras etc). Good for cheap mass storage though.

    https://www.gsmarena.com/sandisk_ultra_400gb_microsd_review-…

Edit: the sequential speed is OK, so good for cameras but not so good in random read/write so using for Android phone as a substitude for internal storage (anything with lots of small files involved).

  • Perfect for a Nintendo Switch. I'd be all over this if I don't already have 2x 200Gb.

    • Perfect for a hacked Nintendo Switch.

      • Those NSPs add up. 13-14GB for AAA titles.

  • Waiting for Samsung 512GB micro SD to be available as storage expansion for Surface Pro

  • Guys there is usd 66 offer at joy buy now for 400gb.

    • Good price. Bought 2. But you have to pay GST on top of it. Worked out to be about $102 per card. Hoping that it's genuine.
