For Kitchen Shears I would recommend the "pull apart" ones. It makes it easier to clean, and dry, them thoroughly.

Not like to like but bought similar colour pencils in Aldi for only $10 so BIGW need to do better than Aldi

Derwent is considered the premium standard for pencils, so BIGW is already "doing better" than ALDI at that price.

Derwent academy pencils are the worst pencil I’ve ever used. They are nothing like their Artists quality. So you’re completely wrong there. Don’t believe me? Go waste your money at big w on a set of these and report back.

        • Your original comment was that Aldi had "similar" pencils for $10 so BIGW had to do better. The BIGW price was the same as the ALDI price for "similar" products - and the Derwent pencils have a good reputation. Personally I will bow to your experience, but the Derwent range is well regarded.

If you could elaborate on the issues you had with the pencils then it would be helpful for others to make a comparison. (that is a genuine request because I think it will help).

    • Agree with above comment. Derwent are a premium art brand, trusted by artists everywhere.

Thanks OP. Derwent will make a great Christmas present!

    • This model of Derwent is crap. Faber Castel is a million times better and at a better price. This quality of Derwent really shames the company that they would put their name to such crap. Even the wood is splintery. I bought some a year ago unknowingly. They definitely don’t blend and they don’t even colour well. A cheap crappy set of no name pencils would probably compare to these.

I think you meant to reply to my earlier comment where I said that Derwent is a premium brand.

I still believe that Derwent is a more premium brand than a random Aldi release of unknown origin. It's unfortunate, however, to hear (based on your experience) that Derwent have cheaped out on these pencils. Prismacolor, who used to be the pencil of choice for many US-based artists have apparently done a similar thing in the last few years.

I personally love my Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils, but am happy for my kids to have these Derwent for Christmas.

Edit: I actually bought the water colour pencils.

  • Hey OP went to the scissors link and it’s saying $13. I’m not sure whether they are actually half price or not. Can you clarify? I’m in vic.
