  • How accurate is the humidity meter? I've found they vary wildly. :)

  • Why would Joybuy care about GST…. very strange.

    • +1

It pays for their Xmas party…

    • Because they're required to pay it to the ATO for all transactions sold to Australia. Many small international sellers may not even be aware of it, but anyone of a decent size will have received notices from the ATO.

      • +2

But the ATO can't enforce overseas companies to do so. It only makes sense for Amazon etc because they have Australian offices/plans etc.

        • any business wouldn't want to abandon AU market or at least jeopardise it. It costs them nothing and some interest on GST collected anyway.

          • +6

@Jamesx: It makes their products more expensive compared to their competitors.

And as long as you don't plan to set up an Australian office, there is no downside.

They aren't going to start banning sites that don't charge GST.

          • @Jamesx: But eBay charges GST handling fees - the amount is more than 10%

        • True, but if I recall correctly from reading the discussion paper, this was considered to be a bit of a low cost experiment to see how the voluntary registration approach went… but if there's enough businesses circumventing it, they could revert to one of the other collection proposals such as levying duties when goods arrive onshore (and go back to the days when you had to make a payment before your online shopping goods were released from customs for delivery).

    • +5

Because Joybuy is owned by JD.com who are ranked 2nd behind Amazon based on revenue growth. Companies worth billions tend to try comply more with local laws of countries they intend on doing business in rather than the smaller China-sites.

      • Thats crazy I didn't know that. I thought they were just a random china shop.

        • You'd be surprised at how many are operated by multi-billion dollar companies. The obvious AliExpress and the less obvious Gearbest for example.

          • @Clear: How does GB get away with it? I think they had it for a month or two and suddenly they started tanking the 10%
I've also noticed that they're routing all the parcels from HK to Sweden/Belgium/Netherlands before sending it here, why's that?

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: Probably figured the ATO can't do much about it.

The routing is nothing new as it means they're using the cheapest airmail carriers they can get. postNL send to their Netherlands sorting centre first, Belgium Post to Belgium etc

            • @[Deactivated]: Didn't realise GB stopped charging GST - good to know ;)

Would be nice with built in digital clock

I wonder what the smiley face does? I can only guess it changes depending on how hot/humid it is?

    • Confirmed. The face changes according to a matrix of humidity and temperature combinations, as per the review posted by OzJoey below

Very nice sleek minimalist unit with incredibly clear display. Lcd displays look dreadful in comparrison. I purchased one earlier in the year, and recently purchased another from joybuy last week.

  • thx

I can highly recommend these, have five of them spread around the house. Sit nicely on the wall with a bit of blue tack. Super light.

I'm seeing US 16.99, am I missing something?

    • Same with me

    • back in stock around 5pm with US$ 1 increased

  • Damnit. I should've bought it yesterday!

great displays ..no time display unfortunately.

  • Tried to buy one but gave up after creating an account and having to reset the password twice.

    • Likewise gave up. Getting "this Ip registered more 50 times in 24 hour", they need to lay off the drugs. I've had the same dedicated IP for years and never tried to register there in my life.

  • Available for a couple of bucks more, with much quicker shipping, on AliExpress.

  • Thanks, ordered 3. Seems slightly cheaper to order in USD using a no exchange fee card.

  • +1

Seems like its cheaper at aliexpress

  • Thermometer arrived, ordered on 8-Nov, arrived on 3-Dec.

  • Just got mine today. But the display is stuck on 188.8c and 88% something.

Have tried reseating the battery, but nothing.

    • Did you pull the sticker off the front?
