Amazon Australia 12.5% Cashback (up from 7.5%) @ Cashrewards

3900

Hi all. We've increased Amazon Australia Cashback to 12.5%. Increase will end at our discretion 11:59PM AEDT Nov 7. Thank you as always for your support. Enjoy :)

Very Important Notes:

  • Items added to your shopping cart before clicking from Cashrewards will not earn Cashback and will not be eligible for Cashback claims.
  • You must return and click through from Cashrewards to Amazon Australia every time you make a new transaction/purchase.
  • Purchases made via the Amazon App are not eligible for Cashback.
  • Gift Cards, Vouchers, Charity, Non-Profit items, and Amazon Prime memberships are not eligible for Cashback.
  • Cashback will be paid on eligible purchases, excluding shipping/delivery, taxes and GST.
  • Pre-orders are eligible for Cashback provided the item is scheduled to be shipped within 60 days of purchase.

A Small Education Piece:

Please always ensure your last click before purchase is from Cashrewards. Simply click Shop Now and complete your shopping without leaving Amazon AU. A lot of untracked claims come from the fact members have other tabs open and/or are using Google or comparison sites to review their product/s before purchase. All cashback/rewards sites work off a simple principle - last click. The winning affiliate is always the one that receives the last click. Also turn off any AdBlock/uBlock/Ghostery as well as Safari (mobile and/or desktop) Cross-Site Tracking. Finally, you must return and click through from Cashrewards to the store every time you make a new transaction/purchase.

That's generous. might be time to do some Chrissy shopping.
Is there a maximum cashback limit?

    thanks mate!

    • I had the same question … and also would it apply to Audiobooks (Audible) on Amazon? I was thinking to buy a whole series of books (30+ lol) for Christmas!

  • -1

looks like amazon au is getting desperate trying to match ebay constant 10%.

    • +6

they just keep forgetting to price jack before hand.
Oh and the $120 min spend,

      • +3

Ebay don't price jack, sellers do. And not for site-wide (because everyone would buy from their competitors).

Price jacking prices when a sale is limited to select sellers.

I agree with your minimum spend comment, this is better (except less shit to buy on amazon and no second hand / used items)

    • +10

What does a Cashback increase have to do with Amazon getting desperate? Nothing! This isn't a sitewide/store specific coupon that eBay do.

      • +8

A 7.5% cashback is a fair amount. Someone is paying for it. Amazon have the funds to take a short term loss for a possible long term gain.

        • +2

Perhaps Cashrewards are taking a hit by having this increase? Both cashback companies do it to match each other.

          • +1

            @Clear: In their own words.
            https://www.cashrewards.com.au/about

Stores pay us a commission on everything you purchase and we share that commission with you!

          • +1

@Clear: There was a time when cashrewards used to give >3% to 6% on eBay purchases. Ebay then reduced their commissions to cashrewards which caused cashrewards to drop their rates to a standard 1%.

          • -1

@Clear: Cash rewards will never take a hit for you

            • +2

@idonotknowwhy: None of the Amazon affiliates make more than 10% commission except for apparel which is set at 12%. CR would be making quite the loss on some categories.

              • @Clear: I don't know, I just figured there's no real competition and it's effectively free cash for me as a user.

You're probably correct though, I'll look into the link below.

CR and particularly TA are pretty good with fixing issues so I'd probably stick with them anyway in most cases.

                • @idonotknowwhy: There have been many cashback startups that have failed (e.g. Shopcred) or haven't quite taken off (e.g. OzVouchers & BitcoinRewards), but the only real competition is SB. Hence these constant cashback wars :)

            • +1

@idonotknowwhy: CashRewards is a business, one facing competition. Why wouldn't they consider a loss leader promotion?

BTW, this page lists the standard Amazon affiliate payouts. While I don't doubt that Amazon runs promos for big affiliates, I'd be surprised if CR weren't taking a hit to get and keep people on their platform.

              • @lbft: It's a potential hit.
Remember this isn't immediate cash back to the user. There is a time for it to be approved from cash rewards to the user which is probably a little longer than the approval from Amazon to CR to allow for adjustments, errors and a little interest to be earned. Then there is the fact you can't take out all the money until you have a minimum amount in your account. I bet a lot sits in accounts under this threshold or for a long period - which again gives them interest on the money held. Then you have the market growth of new users coming in, potential to leverage this user base in some way either through site marketing or leveraging it for better rates / promos / specials. I'm not saying they are making millions - but its not as simple as they are giving out 12.50 for every 10 they get in through affiliate payments.

    • Amazon have a constant affiliate program anyone can sign up for. Cashrewards and others probably have a higher rating or cut some special deal for a higher percentage and they choose to pass some (or all at some times I guess) on.

  • Just bought some stuff last night :( is it possible to request this amount without cancelling and reordering?

    • +2

Their online support team is very helpful, last time I had the same mistake and they solved it within minutes. Cancelled my order and I reordered.

    • +1

Highly doubt it. Should be able to cancel and reorder.

  • Can we make cashback posts? (e.g) QC35 $380 - 12.5% cashback?

    Or?

    • If it’s the cheapest deal available

  • Wait, so how exactly does cashback on pre-GST prices work? Can you show an example calculation? I'm always off by a few cents when calculating it manually.

    • +5

      $250 purchase (assuming free shipping):

      250 / 1.1 * 0.125 = $28.41 Cashback

  • +6

Increase will end at our discretion

    or when shopback's does.. ;)

    • +1

      Shopback's ends tonight.

      • +1

Shopback needs to step up its game.

        • +1

What makes you say this? Not affiliated with either site but curious what other peoples thoughts on CR and Shopback are? Also Kerching.com.au which launched this week has a higher rate than both CR and Shopback on eBay but the experience is way behind the others.

          • @MisterMo: My experience with Shopback when I tried them wasnt a good one. Was using CR and its been mostly painless but for a while they were denying payments for no apparent reason until I raised support ticket.

So I wanted to dip my toe in the water for a small-ish purchase with Shopback as they offered a better rate. Made the purchase, took a few days to track however in that time the rate had reduced from promotional to the regular rate. At which point they only were offering me the cashback at that reduced rate even though I had made purchase on the promotional rate.

It was only for a small amount of money (~maybe $1?) but I didn't bother pursuing it further as I prefer a service that "just works" and not wasting my time chasing what I was entitled to.

I've dealt with other rebate sites like befrugal and topcashback with no issues or stuffing about.

  • +4

Nice. I never seem to find anything i want priced better on amazon vs ebay though, with the exception of a few flash deals on toasters n stuff.

  • great news
anything for the 11.11 aliexpress sales

  • +2

So is there anything worthwhile getting?

  • Can someone recommend a USB portable storage? Just need it to store photos/videos, prefer 1TB.

  • +2

"Items added to your shopping cart before clicking from Cashrewards will not earn Cashback and will not be eligible for Cashback claims.
You must return and click through from Cashrewards to Amazon Australia every time you make a new transaction/purchase."

That's a generous rebate, but is going to make for one hell of a convoluted purchase process if we need to exit out of Amazon and click through CashRewards for every item we add.

I'm sure plenty of people have items in their cart already, or will add multiple purchases without reverting back to CashRewards and be quite disappointed when their rebates come through…

    • Hi UncleRico. Been the case from day one with Amazon AU, and while it's not something we're happy with, we need to abide by Amazon AU's guidelines or we/you get nothing. Simply clear your cart first, then click through Cashrewards, fill your cart, and buy. If you have more to purchase after this, click through from Cashrewards and repeat. Thanks.

      • So what happens if you want to look at other pages while you're shopping? You might be reading reviews etc. Best to have a separate browser window open? different browser application altogether?

        • +2

Hi Zenyatta. Can't say this enough. Please do all your reviewing etc first, or indeed have a separate browser for Cashrewards with no plugins or other tabs open during your purchases. Do not click away from Amazon (or any CR store for that matter) after clicking from Cashrewards until your purchase is complete. Attribution is so easily lost with so many forms of advertising/publishers/links/email marketing/SEO/PPC out there… boggles the mind.

          • +5

@tightarse: yep I use IE/Edge for all my cashrewards and shopbacking! No nice extensions installed like adblock, privacy badger etc that could stuff my click throughs.

    • +3

I find if I save for later, click through from Cash Rewards, then re-add to cart it works. You don't have to do it for every item, just every time you click through to pay and shipping. Plus with so many people on Prime, and no minimum spend for free shipping, some people might buy small amounts more frequently as they think of it.

      • +2

@tightarse Can you please confirm that the above will work?

Using Save For Later this way will at least avoid the effort of manually searching again for the pre-researched items.

        • +1

This! @tightarse please confirm if above is ok? will save us a $hit load of time!!!!!!

        • Just to answer my own question, I tried it out and yes both items that I had saved were tracked for cashback.

    • +1

For every item? or every purchase/transaction?

      I read the instructions as;

      1. Go to CR
      2. Click through to Amazon
      3. Add 1 or many items to your cart
      4. Pay
      5. CR tracked sale

I don't believe you had to do steps 1-3 for every item

  • -5

" Increase will end at our discretion."

This looks like a bait and switch to me

    • +1

Lol, you should report it to the ACCC.

    • In the very minimal chance that it ends between the time you've clicked the cashrewards link and made the purchase then you'd have a legitimate complaint.

      • -2

My thinking is more along these lines. If you take a physical store advertising say 25% off everything - and customers jump into their cars and drive to the store only to see that it is now 12.5% off - and the manager points to the fine print "25% off will end at our discretion" then isn't that bait and switch. They have diverted sales away from the competition and have buyers at the store. I believe there should always be an end date and time published.

It's people like you that ruin these deals for everyone. For a start you don't have to drive anywhere and it's unlikely that you wouldn't get the cashback at the higher rate as you clicked through at that higher rate as CashRewards pays based on the click through time (at least that is how it looks in the information that we see on their website). The sale time which also contains the amount has to be within a certain time period to get credited to your account.

As for the store example, words fail me.

        • +2

Hi Ruckmauler. Whilst I don't believe your example above is a valid one, please know that this increase is good until at least midnight AEDT today (Wednesday). Thanks.

  • So new to this… Do I copy the names of the things I wanna purchase, click Shop now and add all individually and check out?

No limits on number or value of items?

  • I don't see why at least twice per week the Amazon cashback goes up and down.

Do we really need a new post each time??

    • +1

Yes we do. You can hide similar deals from appearing on the front page or new deals listing if you don't want free money back on purchases.

Nothing like a bit of friendly competition!!

(Shopback only has 2 syllables- doesn’t fit)

  • pre-ordered civ for nintendo switch… my first cashrewards attempt, so we will see how it goes

Amazon usually charges at time of shipping/preparing order, if the increased rate ends before release you may not get the increased rate, but should still get the default rate

      • Amazon usually charges at time of shipping/preparing order, if the increased rate ends before release you may not get the increased rate, but should still get the default rate

What does that have to do with it? CashRewards tracks the click through time and it tracks the purchase time and the amount. How Amazon charge you has nothing to do with CashRewards, after you purchase they wait for confirmation from Amazon that the sale has gone through and you get paid after x days.

      • I sure that's not how it works. CR is paid on Click through at the rate advertised 12.5%. The Pre-Order has to ship with 60 days to be credited with the CR amount at time of 'purchase' 12.5%. You get charged by Amazon on product release date. That's probably why the time frame from 'Pending' to 'Paid' at CR is soooo long :-).

I could be wrong, @Tightarse could confirm exactly but that's my understanding.

        • +1

Hi HelpWanted. We've just added the part in bold below to our terms for clarity:

Pre-orders are eligible for Cashback at the current advertised rate provided the item is scheduled to be shipped within 60 days of purchase.

          • @tightarse: TA, it might be worth you or someone else putting a little step by step video together. people seem to be getting seriously confused around the steps.

            • @adam456: So you want a video of TA clicking through from Cashrewards to Amazon then adding items to his cart and making a purchase, lol. Or do you just want to see what tightarse looks like?

  • +1

Of course you have … I just placed an order yesterday :(

  • I have always got my cashback tracked on CashRewards, except for one time when I used Brave browser (with ad block on) on an iPhone lol.

  • +1

Thanks TA, any advice - CW never seems to track purchases from Amazon, and sometimes other sites. I click straight through using safari from site on Mac as advised. I have to submit a request every time, sometimes CW don’t process it and I’ve had to submit multiple requests.

Still waiting for yet another from October.

    Thx

    • +1

Make sure prevent cross-site tracking is turned off in Safari. Otherwise the cookies that track your purchase will be eaten and thus no cashback.

  • Does cashback work on Kindle purchases? I.e. ebooks for your kindle?

    • Yes :)

    • Does it still work if you have one-click purchase on?

  • This deal doesn't apply to a Prime subscription. Does anyone know of any currently available way to save on that?

    • +1

The only way to save on Prime was through the amex deal on Prime Day which was exhausted very quickly.

It's worthwhile signing up for a year before January though so you can get the $59 discounted rate before they put the price up.

  • solved

  • Would the cashback work with the McDonald's Amazon coupons ?

  • This period of time will come to be known as The Great Cashback Wars.

    • When I'm old I will tell my grandkids about these crazy times.

  • thanks TA

  • It can only get better :)

  • Thanks TA well done, just have to be very disciplined prior to Black Friday, I'm always the fan of getting the discount upfront rather than waiting for the cash.

  • TA I'm going to have to declare bankruptcy because of you!

  • Is this permanent or will it expire?

    • +1

You didn't read the 1st line in the description did you?

      • +1

        Ah now I did.

        Thanks

  • Doh, I just purchased something yesterday @7.5% that is yet to show up on my account.

  • +2

Is the purchase made on Amazon AU site but sold by Amazon US valid for this offer?

    • I want to know as well

    • I purchased a couple of gifts from Amazon US using the AU store the cashback seems to have tracked properly for me :)

  • If I purchase $2000 of hard drives, reckon they'd honor it?

    • No seriously, would they?

  • Ok..

So I have order Smash Ult for $66.10 2 months ago.

However if I order with cashback at 12.5% off it goes from the price now $69 to ~$60.

So I should simply be able to cancel the initial order, and re-order with the cashback yea?
