Facebook Seller Sold Wrong Wheel by The Look of It

Bought 4xWheels of 18" ENKEI Brand from a private seller for Ford. The seller mentioned that he had those on Ford XR6 for a while but he sold his car with stock and selling these RIMs separately. Long story short, rim's condition was clean, he actually painted the rims instead of being original black. Today tried to fit the RIMs to my FORD FGX, and Diameter of these RIMs are small than current 16" RIMs i have. Tried 2 ford and does not fit. The RIM hole does not completely go into the space even though Nut rods comes out, so that's risky to put wheels like that.

Cleaned and looked at the RIMs from inside. It mentions Nissan, and online search of the RIM model shows Infiniti G37.

Spoke to seller few times, he said he is at work and will call me back. So waiting…

Just take it as lesson learnt? loss of money and move on??? Any suggestions?

Update: Thanks everyone for your feedback. issue has been resolved. After multiple discussions with Seller, wheels have been returned

      Maybe you got wrong car….

    • -2

Eh. OP turned up to the buy, looked at the wheels, and said "OK I'll buy them."

OP really needed to make sure the wheels would fit his car before giving the money over. Just because they fit another Ford doesn't mean it'll fit his.

  • +4

did you inspect at cash handover time?

    bring it back and return.

OP definitely got rolled with this deal.

    Return. Item not as described.

    • +2

As much as it would be nice to return them, a private seller can just tell you where to go.

Take it as a lesson, sell them o and buy the right wheels.

  • -1

He is not calling you back. Typical scum.

    • Infiniti wheels are made by Enkei, they just aren't Enkei branded alloys.

    • Are the wheels 18" or not? It will mention on the rim itself, 18xSomething, and unless they've been re-drilled, will be 5x114.3, same as any modern Ford.

Don't think you have much recourse tbh, onus isn't on the seller to ensure the wheels will fit on your car, and unless the specs are different than as the wheels physically presented, being a private sale I doubt you'll get anywhere with it.

    • yes these are 18x17.5j. Not sure how he could fit on his earlier ford as he claimed, as Ford ones are 18x8 i just did research after. I trusted that his words that he used it on his ford and selling separate, he must have not fit it properly and load would have been on screws.

      • +1

I assume you mean 18x7.5”, which means they are slightly narrower. I’m guessing your trouble is much more with offset.

Sorry if my judgment is incorrect but it doesn’t seem you knew exactly what you were buying and were hoping that his having fitted the wheels on a Ford would be enough to go on.

Best bet is to take it to a tyre shop and ask if anything can be done (spacers), otherwise resell the wheels.

      • +1

Pre AU ford falcons (about MY2000) have different offsets to more modern ones and wheels aren't interchangeable. Spacers are illegal and will void your insurance.

hmm, happened to me but the other way around. Sold some wheels that should have fit on the specific car that the buyer turned up in. Even test fit them and everything looked ok. After this the buyer called saying the wheel shop said that they won't fit his car and they are more suited to something like an Audi. I gave him a partial refund, but later found out his brother had an Audi…. He also said he had a stack of three other sets in his garage, so don't know if this is a regular scam. Good point is I learned that you need to check the hub pattern, and the et number (I think?) for the spacing between each bolt hole on the rim. If this is off they won't fit. You can get adapters for certain wheels as well.

    • yes been a learning for sure. the bolt holes fit fine, it's just the middle circle smaller/similar size on where tyres go so it does not go in and set properly. Bolts can be screwed but that may damage the joint etc in longer run. If anyone know what size of 18" wheels i should be looking and what to check that will be great.I am looking for 2nd hand ones in black, don't want to spend too much on brand news.

    yeah study what you buy

    it's 3rd party aftermarket rims

seller fitted on his xr6 , doesn't mean it's factory fit to spec

rims has different offsets and widths and lugs spec

you're buying 3rd party aftermarket rims , so anus on you to check whether the wheel spec fit your car or not

    • +9

      so anus on you

      Tee hee. :D

      • +4

"The RIM hole does not completely go into the space"

The anus is certainly on him.

        • +1

          Nut rods

          I’m dying over here… :D

    • +4

      so anus on you

      PM sent

  • +2

    Sell them
Next time you buy make sure you check them properly

  • Go to the Aussie Ford forums ask there what rims, offsets etc are used on your car. they have the info and experience. Simples

  • +2

Sounds like the centre bore of the wheels doesn't match the hub size on your car. If the centre bore is larger than the hub size you can fix the issue with hub centric ring adapters which are safe and very commonly used with aftermarket wheels. If the centre bore is smaller than your hub size then the wheels won't sit flush with the hub which is very unsafe. You can fix that with spacers but as mentioned will void your insurance,

  • What he said ^^^ beat me by a minute

I think OP's issue is not with the wheel size, PCD of the studs but with the size of the centre bore of the wheel if I understand correctly

    Title should read -

Facebook Buyer Bought Wrong Wheel by The Look of It

    • +2

bought RIMS… not sure what that's an acronym for, but they bought RIMS!

  • +1

Whenever I'm buying a product face-to-face I always inspect it thoroughly. Even when I'm selling an item I ask the buyer, and make them as comfortable as possible, to inspect what I'm selling - just so there's no dissatisfaction/problem after the sale.

If you ask to inspect and the seller makes a fuss that's an instant red flag. I went with a mate to check out some rims. I felt around the base of the rim to check if any were buckled and the seller immediately said 'No need to! All in pristine condition'. Low and behold the rim at the bottom of the pile was not only buckled but also cracked.

Always, always, always inspect the item if possible and have questions prepped. More importantly know what you're buying.

  • If the stud pattern and the offset is correct, its a simple matter of going to a tyre shop and machining the wheel bore to suit the hub. Simples… but costs $'s.

  • Just resell them for what they are
