I downloaded the free mod when it was initially released. I am extremely impressed by the professional job done by a small team.
No wonder it took something like ten years to make. The game ended when entering the portal to Xen. Has it been completed yet?

    • +6

No, they are finishing up the xen section are about to release it soon, but they have also been touching up and polishing other parts of the game at the same time.

Latest update from the team: https://steamcommunity.com/games/362890/announcements/detail…

      • +1

Theyve been saying Xen "soon" for almost 5 years (back when it was still a mod for HL2)

    • +6

I helped out a bit when they first got started with some 3D models and art. (no credit though, unfortunately… it was just a mod back then!).
We all communicated using Microsoft MSN messenger. This project has been in the works for more than 10 years.
Looking forwards to seeing the end result! :)

Half-Life is one of the best games I've played in my life. I should get this for nostalgia

    • +1

A lot of people obviously agree but I could never get into it since I was kind of late to the party. HL2 on the other hand.. I bought a $400 graphics card just for it!

This is probably the only way I'll get into HL1 so it's good these devs remade it.

      • +1

Back them GPU were $400, now they are around $900 :-(

        • Haha, well this was not top of the range but the most I personally ever spent. I don't game much so $200 does the job well enough.

    Half Life 3 CONFIRMED!

    • +3

      Stop it you.

    • +1

That was a joke. Ha ha. Fat chance.

    • +11

      It actually is.

Look at the price - 7.99USD

      7+9+9=25

Now consider 25, the difference between the digits is 3.

      Half Life 3 Confirmed.

Is this a complete game though or still in Development?

    • +1

Still in development but very high quality, worth buying it now for cheap and playing it when it's done, which is close.

  • +1

Great game. So a remake of the original, will get it.

  • nice! thanks matey, heard some great things about this

  • +1

Was so surprised Valve let them release this when it was announced. So happy for the devs!

    • +3

Valve has always been pretty fan oriented. They know that quashing small devs like this that do it out of the love for their games is counter-intuitive unlike some other companies *cough* Nintendo *cough*

      • +3

Probably only because they're no longer in the actual game development business now…

        • They're still developing CSGO

          • +9

            @Fuzor: You misspelled "skins".

          • +3

            @Fuzor: Cool. I've got Wordpad.exe for CSGO.

            • @Munki: You have to delete for it to work.

        • They are making games (Artifact), but yes, their primary focus is Steam.

  • +2

All that's missing is the SteamVR update for virtual reality…

    • +4

You reaaaally wanna go to Ravenholm in VR? No thanks.

      • +4

        That was Half Life 2.

        • Good call.

      • +4

        We don't go to Ravenholm.

  • +1

Is Xen out yet? They're taking ages to finish those final chapters…

  • This is still not a complete game. Judging by what I've seen, I'd say there's no way it's finished before at least Q1/Q2 next year.
I bought this years ago, but I'm refusing to play it until it's complete.

    • I’m refusing to buy it until it’s complete. AFAIK there not too much difference between the free mod and the current edition.
EDIT: Appears to have been polished more but still not buying until its fully released.

  • +2

Purchased this game 2+ years ago. The game is 10/10 and very well done except for the fact no Xen. They've been saying Xen will be available "soon" for 2 years.

    • +1

More like for 6 years. I played this aaaages ago (as the mod) and it was the same back then.

  • I don't recommend buying this at all. It's been in development since 2004 and they still haven't completed Xen. On top of that, the changes are really hit or miss, and the mod isn't well made at all. It's poorly optimized and you need a decent CPU (I have an i5-6500 @ 3.2GHz and had a bunch of FPS drops which made me have to restart the game a handful of times, and at one point it was just unplayable) to play it smoothly. In addition, the AI is awfully inconsistent, and watched them bug out into walls or just land some incredible shots across the map.

Please just play the original. It's ugly but some areas are better designed, and the game is actually complete. Don't support devs that have been making millions off of an incomplete, clunky, unoptimized game.

    • That's the problem with fan projects. They have to juggle life with the game which is worked on in their spare time only.

      • Yeah, I respect it as a passion project but it's been an insane amount of time. I find it unethical to continue to charge this amount for a game that still isn't finished, while already making a few million off of it.

  • +1

The original holds up so well 20 years later.

Replayed it recently. The amount of times you round a corner and BAM, dead. Something modern games with God complex's could learn a thing or two from.

    • Didn't Valve do a Source based remake that released with either HL2 or Orange Box?

      • It wasn't a remake… just a port.. a broken one at that too.
        Playable though.

It added HL2 water and "ragdolls".
The physics engine was a bit crazy though, and you couldn't "gib" bodies any more though.
