First post. Good price for a 12 inch car sub, next cheapest is $168 at JB HiFi. You'll also need an amp to power the buggers and someone to install em.
Pioneer TSWX306B 12 Inch Subwoofer $148.85 (was $229) @ Supercheap Auto (Free C&C or $14.95 Delivery)

Boom boom shaka laka.
just need to find a deal on a sh*tty Holden Commodore…
Surprised there is still a market for these, but maybe I'm just getting old
I’m getting old but have a slim 10” Rockford Fosgate sub in the boot and a small footprint amp under the front seat. Needed because the puny factory 5” speakers have no mid or bottom end. Can’t even fit 6” speakers in there because of space restrictions (I have 6.5” JL Audio components from 9 years ago I’d love to use!). Does it thump? Absolutely not! But still way better than the stock setup.
Mitsubishi lancer ?
2006 Renault Megane hatch.
I'm getting old too, but I put a Fusion 10 inch in my car (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288644).
The teenager in me won't die.
As teenager in the 2000s we all had these in the back of our cars. Now you never hear them. Tell me young people, why you no like bass?
These would be a bitch to hook up with integrated decks in modern cars. I suppose high level input is an option. Hard to find a late model car with standard din/double din.
Nope was simple to fit in my sp25 running stock headunit
It is funny though isn’t it, I can’t remeber the last time I heard a sub cranking some doof, miss my 15”
"What u got in the back bro?".
"Aw yeah two 12's aye. 6" pioneers at the front and splits at the back".
…"and amp under the seat".
Miss those days haha.
Stockies in the front, 6x9s in (or on!) the parcel shelf (raw mdf spacers optional)
As a current high school student I feel like young people's interest in cars has declined in general- it's pretty disappointing. Some of my mates have turned 18 and haven't even got their Ls yet
Probably as most modern cars these days have decent audio systems so these aren't common anymore. In saying that I have the 10" in the boot of my car
Back in the 2000's, what else was there to do except finding the loudest, shittiest thing with a beat, and blast it at popular locations in an act of sonic warfare. Crazy frog wasn't born from nothing, guy.
Because young people these days are lost
Anyone know how this would do in a BMW 5 Series (1999)?
EDIT: Got this aftermarket head unit in it http://www.albanycarstereo.com.au/test/product/alpine-ilx-00…
It'll work just fine - as mentioned in the desc, you'll need an amp to pair your sub with.
The entire car audio industry is a shadow of its former self. As someone previously mentioned, it's a bitch to customise car audio setups with integrated head units which probably plays a part.
I also think it could be because a car would often lose value, rather than gain value, even with a relatively simple config. When looking to sell a modified car, you really limit the market of potential buyers to someone involved in car audio - greatly reducing demand. So possibly, the generation of late teens/early 20-somethings around the year 2000 or so kind of found out the hard way. And they probably passed that message down to the current generating - "don't bother".
I just upgraded a VE and VF. more due to cheap but good Alpune components…I missed my very very high-end stereo I had years ago…
To the audio companies credit their adapting and producing more integrated solutions like in dash amps (used one for VE) and much more efficient speakers…
I was using a Bluetooth speaker in my car for 2 years because the radio was terrible and so we're the speakers. Lately I just play music from my axon7 (smartphone) speakers
Just bought a new Mitsi Outlander. The stereo is absolute rubbish compared to my old 08 Outlander. Full Rockford Fosgate system with the factory sub in the back. No distortion. Pick the whole car up these days dirt cheap..Yet kids can't be bothered even getting their licence any more.
Can this be used in home audio setup?
Looking for cheap subwoofer, not sure if this could do the job. I suspect the power inputs may play some part on not being compatible with home audio.
Double check the Ohm's - IIRC, home subs and car subs have different impedence.
Shouldn't be an issue, but best to do quick research. You'd need an amplifier, that's going to blow the cost out. Or if using a car amp, even more hassles to get that working….
Using the Sub itself in an existing active setup is one thing, and regardless not worth it.
So the answer is yes, but no, go to gumtree and just find a cheap active sub, it'll still sound better than this will anyway in a home setup.
