    Look like it said 170 x Hitachi 1TB for $46. :p

  • yup I was sure this was Umart edit dude

  • Yea…. Was looking at multiple PC stores at the time.
    It's Umart.

1st numbers are quantity in stock
And prices are obviously per unit. =P

Umart Gold Coast refused to honour my warranty on a video card I bought from them. No way would I trust them on "flooded" HDs.

    • meh, at least it is open disclosure with regards to drives.

Just out of curiosity, on what basis was the warranty not honoured, and other than customer service or lack thereof? Why could you not claim warranty directly from the manufacturer?

      • +1

        They gave no reason.

It's an Asus card. When I emailed Asus they said "contact your dealer". :(

      • meh, at least it is open disclosure with regards to drives.

And all drives are in sealed packages with that stuff which is supposed to absorb any moisture.

Wife picked up the Corsair F120G SSD from them yesterday and the box was opened with the connector showing sign of used. I don't trust this group.

  • Why would they need to do this? If they were in the antistatic seal, it should be easily clean up by running this through water and it will look as new.

    • They know that the drives have been wet, even if only the package was wet there should be some legal issues if they sold the drives as being brand new/perfect condition

I have found Umart (Sunshine Coast) to be VERY helpful and reasonable. Joyce Mayne fobbed me off to them a couple of years ago and I now go straight to Umart.

    Mentioned previously in the forums:

  • meh, bulk orders of 10+. so it is not possible to buy the hdds where the available quantity is < 10?

    • It means you'd have to mix and match models to buy at least 10 drives total.

    • Which is why I asked if anyone was interested in group buy

You would have to be NUTS to buy a flooded HDD.

Your data is more important than a discount.
And do you really think you can expect warranty for a flooded unit? One look at the PCB, which is usually visible from the underside, and the manufacturer will know.

My oath this is a bad deal. I wouldn't put data I wasn't prepared to lose on these even if they were free. -ve.

      Agreed.

Warning to all, dont trust flooded Hard Drives. This is not a bargain it is a gamble.

  • +3

So they obviously claimed the insurance and are now are selling the written off stuff, not sure how normal warranty could apply.

I dont think the prices are fair enough nor are the bulk only purchases

Umart never answer my emails regarding my items :(

    Stay away !

    • imagine with all the troubles would arise when claim the warranty…
      +1 best to stay away!

  • +1

Have to be at least 50% or more off before I'd consider this a bargain.

  • +5

This is were your hard drives were. Still think it's a good deal?

      NO!!!

    • Maybe they were on the very top of the very highest shelf :P
Yeah, seems like a gamble for not much of a discount.

  • +1

Something smells fishy about this deal

  • +1

$10 off a HDD is not worth the stress and worry of possible data loss in the future. Sure the drive itself is covered by warranty but who really cares about that when you lose all your data? Just pay the extra $10 and get a brand new non-water damaged HDD.

Edit: It's bulk buy of 10-15 too, yeah definitely not worth it.

  • +1

Considering their whole store was under water it seems pretty risky. I don't think sealed anti-static bags are actually sealed enough to be classified as waterproof to 5 meters+

  • +1

So they are selling potentially damaged merchandise at a measley $10 off? They probably claimed it all back on insurance as well, so getting twice the amount for every HDD. This is probably illegal.

  • +1

Not much of a saving vs pccasegear. Not worth the risk.

  • +1

Anti static bags are not waterproof. The only appropriate price for these goods would be FREE. I sorry for anyone that purchases these drives.

  • +2

They have probally already got an insurance payout for the items and are simply trying to make extra on the side

Anti Static Bags are not waterproof, the manufacturer will not honour water damage. Umart will foot the bill themselves I imagine or just ignore you

  • very bad deal. pay the extra ten dollars from an honest store!
