Need to Scan about 150 Old Photos

I've been given some photos and one photo album containing pictures of my now dead brother, his children and his then wife. There's about 150 photos all up, and they're probably 20-30 years old. Most of the photos are in great condition, except for the ones in the photo album, which are faded.

I'd like to have digital copies of the photos. I have a flat bed scanner and access to a sheet feed scanner, and I've tried to scan a few of the photos, and while the results were quite good, it's a long and labour intensive process and I honestly don't have the time to scan them all myself.

Does anyone know where I can get the photos scanned professionally? I'm in the outer east suburbs of Melbourne.

  • Just do like a few each day?

and they're probably 20-30 years old

Although it's a small chance, it's less risk for them to go missing or get damaged if done by someone else.

  • Subscribing to this. Would love to know too.

By the time you wrote this post, you could have been a third of the way through.

Have you tried PhotoScan by Google Photos?

It's an app for iOS and Android where you use your phone's camera to 'scan' photos. The app can also remove glare from photos as well.

I know it's not the professional service you are after…but it's free and most likely faster than using the scanner!

i work outside of 9-5 office hours, i bring stuff like that in after hours and just hit the work scanner and or printer up.

made some awesome laminated posters in my time lol

  • Use the photoscan by google apps - it seems to work better than a regular scanner

  • Go to reddit if you want some restoration or even colourization on some old black and white photos.

As for the large load of scanning gumtree or airtasker works best (you could even ask an ozbargainer in classifieds if you don't mind them knowing your username or details etc or just make a new account).

  • i'll do it for $150

  • I scanned 2000 plus photos. My flatbed scanner allowed me to scan more than one at a time and it would split the images up.

I had three scanners setup on a table and I'd go from one scanner to the next.

    Labour intensive. Yes.
