Is there anything better at this price range? I currently have a Dyson Animal barrel which I bought because everyone raved about Dyson. But I still can't see the value in it being $700, the suction from day dot was average at best.

  I think the trick with dyson is to be in the sub $400 range. They are easily best best option in this range if you want bagless. Most of the $600+ ones are based upon the "Malibu Stacy - With new hat" sales technique.
