Those are good prices to get somewhere completely different. You can easily pay that much to be still on the east coast of Oz.

    • Correct, I travelled to Brisbane for 7 days cost more than travelling to Malaysia for 11 days. Accommodation, food, transportation in Aus are much higher.

OP should note that Melbourne is in fact Avalon, not Tullamarine. A long way from the city, and with no lounge facilities.

      Fair, will update now

+1 to this. It is a deal breaker for me since travelling time is longer and transport cost will be higher.

      • 53 Min and 64 km to avalon from my destination

Compared to 36 min and 34 km to tulla

Yeah its def a longer distance but if a flight is about $180 cheaper I def would consider

    • Have Air Asia moved to Avalon recently? I'm sure they were at Tulla only a few months ago.

Do Air Asia customers really care about an airport lounge? My views, being a tightwad like many here, if there's a fresh water outlet and somewhere to recharge a phone and powerbank, that's all the lounge I want. I think airports are literally hell on earth and as long as I can immerse myself in noise blocking earphones and media on a phone to ignore my surroundings then I'm as happy as I can be in that nasty environment.

If I'm correct they will be operating in Avalon from December.

This is gonna discourage lots of people!

      • Do Air Asia customers really care about an airport lounge? Do Air Asia customers really care about an airport lounge?

Most wouldn't, but those of us with Priority Pass or Amex lounge benefits from our credit cards get free entry at Tulla these days, so the cost saving will be diluted by the lack of free food and libation (for me, having a lounge is much more important before a budget flight than full service, because you need to stock up on snacks and, where available, bottled and canned drinks, to avoid buying on board).

      • For some of us, just getting there is difficult, and way further. The extra transport cost (using UBER) and extra time needed to get there, may already offset the lower price.

I wish they have some flights from Tullamarine, and some from Avalon. Even if they charge more for the Tullamarine ones, I suspect there would be many who are prepared to pay the little extra for the convenience.

Having said that, if you are on that side of town, this is a great price.

  • Thanks.

It's a good price if you want to visit Malaysia. If Malaysia is not your final destination, I would say go with scoot. Similar price, newer planes, SIN airport is much better than KUL, and there are way connections from SIN.

    • Depends most Scoot connections are long and less choice if staying in asia

    • I've flown both multiple times and airasia just seem nicer. I'm not sure if its just my luck but airasia prioritise better seating whereas all my scoot flights seemed random (I was put in the middle seat multiple times on flights that weren't full and I booked well in advance). The customer service, on the plane, at the airport and online seems better with airasia aswell. Also airasia are still cheaper the majority of the time for what I look at (southeast asia and japan).

Don't get me wrong, none of these are big issues and I would fly scoot again if they were cheaper than airasia but that only seems the case when going to Singapore itself.

Paid via Paypal and avoided CC fees on AAX site

Isn't this just normal low-season prices?

You can always go to AirAsia and see when the cheapest dates are.

  • is it possible to book without luggage and then purchase luggage on the air asia website? their luggage prices seem a bit extreme compared to the air asia website.

  • all prices have gone up atleast from Perth in the month of February
