Omega OHV46C 46cm High Velocity Floor Fan $99 @ JB Hi-Fi

90

It was muggy yesterday, and we have decided to take out the 46cm Kambrook fan that was bought in Dec last year. Stopped working after 10 seconds, likely caused by the switch malfunctioning (not connecting properly).

Long story short. Brought it back to JB and refunded for a gift card.

Came across the Omega Altise 46cm with 2 years manufacturer warranty (1 yr on the Kambrook) and bought it for $89 (the sales was nice enough to discount $10 from listed price).

Figured it is a deal in hindsight as hardly normal and TGG are selling for $129.

PS. We have had a large Vornado before. These metal high speed fans circulate air much better , and less noise.

These fans are good but noisy! Remember getting 4 of these similar fans during the Masters closing down sale for about $35 each!

    • 35? Omg what a bargain :)

      good but noisy!

It's ok 98.7% of ozb has at least 1 set of noise cancelling headphones.

      • Ha! Ha! 👍

      • It's alright, they are all noisy, as long they do their jobs

Yeah I grabbed two of those thinking I would never use them. Now I make 80s music video clips every Saturday.

  • 120 watts vs 56 watts on large vornado (highest speed)

Username checks out, experienced at getting blown.

Your username checks out too, blown by a missile called maverick?

  • Do these work ok to get air up over your bed?

    • They do when you mount them on the ceiling.

    • Yes! Unless you are chained to the ceiling! 😊😊😊. Seriously these things move air much more faster than your ordinary pedestal or other crappy blowers!

      Seems like an odd question.

Every fan does the same thing. Sends a flow of air in the direction you face it. If you put any sort of obstacle in the way, you're just wasting money on power and noise and you might as well have bought a lower specced fan that can deliver the angle you require.

You learn very quickly with this fan that you often need to elevate it. It is very very convenient if you place it on a bedside table. I personally sleep at the foot of my bed during hardcore summer, inches around from my fan, which is on a table. It works pretty well as a floor fan if you're at a desk because you can point it up, but if you point it at a bed.. it'll be no better than a $9 fan and much louder in the bargain.

I have this version though.. slightly more powerful motor and to be clear.. NOT quiet.

I also have this one for when things get insane in summer.

  • Tempting, but then I remembered I have a 130w Arlec Pedestral Workshop fan. Amazing in Summer where I don't care about the noise.

  • We got one of these and I am very happy with this.

    • That's the exact one that i have returned when the switch failed 9 months in.

Ours has been working for years.

        • Yea. Pure bad luck, I suppose. The motors in these things can last for years if not decades.

Read on forum that others had issue with the new replacement.

          See how it goes.

          • @[Deactivated]: yeah, true you can get a dud with just about anything. We have been very happy withboth of ours, it was pretty quiet (considering) and really good for shifting the cooler night air into our house. Hope the new one works out for you.

    • The Kambrook looks a lot like the Woolies one (which is only $49, similar to Target and Kmart offerings).

I picked up one on clearance for the tidy sum of $19.60 a couple of months back. Just hope it's still working when I go to use it once it's finally warmed up around here.

  • I bought one from Target last year. Pretty loud, but very strong air flow.

    • Would you please let us know the wattage of the motor? I am thinking about getting one of these as a secondary.

      • +1

        It says 100W.

    • Similar one we got from Kmart: https://www.kmart.com.au/product/40cm-high-velocity-chrome-m…

We used it at our last place at the foot of the stairwell to assist airflow from the upstairs evaporative aircon. Thinking of using it this summer on the back deck to drive mozzies away in the evenings.

  • I had this and it died after 4 months. Lost receipt so in the bin it went.

    • I'm thinking about buying the Woolworths fan you linked above - have you found any downsides with this fan?

  • I am using the one from Woolworths. $45 High velocity pedestal fan.

    • how is it? do you need any tools to assemble it?

      • You only need a screwdriver. I would have preferred a slower low setting but pretty happy so far.
