  • Can you use these as Wi-Fi extenders or set up a mesh Wi-Fi network with them?

    • Respectively, likely not and definitely not.

      • I doubt it and Wi-Fi extenders half the bandwidth of the connection. You could run a Ethernet cable to another router and set it up as an extended WiFi with the same SSID. I do it but instead of running a Ethernet cable, I use Ethernet over power. Works really well.

  • Sorry - just curious …Why would you buy a WiFi router if u already have a Modem Router?

    • +1

… If your existing router is old and doesn't have the new 802.11 standards. eg 802.11n 5gHz and 802.11ac are better for streaming or gaming than the older 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4gHz options.Or… your existing router doesn't have wireless or the wireless has died. Many reasons and I am sure others with add to or dismiss my response…

If your existing router is old

Often ISP supplied equipment isn't very good.

Although I wouldn't buy this expecting good equipment in case the price wasn't a clue.

Except this Linksys E1200 does not have 5 GHz nor Gigabit LAN ports. https://www.linksys.com/au/p/P-E1200/

    • backup?

    • You can connect it via an ethernet cable and place it at the other end of the house from your modem to improve wireless access.

    • Some routers have bridge mode, which can be quite useful.

      • Install ddwrt, set to bridge. Great for desktops.

  • The N64 mini looks weird…

  • If you buy one of these, make sure you update the firmware.

    • +3

I'd ditch the Linksys firmware and try dd-wrt.

      • +1

I'd spend the extra money and buy Ubiquiti kit.

    • Yep. Shipping is $22.79 for me. Good for people who can use the free pick up option.

  • Can this be used for a fttp setup?

    • I’d be investing in AC (wifi 5), even though this (wifi 4) is theoretically faster than fttp and so theoretically wouldn’t be a bottleneck.

    • +1

      Yes.

    2.5ghz only equals paper weight.

    • +2

It’s good that this is only 2.4 ghz then.
