”the robot empower your house a super cleaning like a tornado

”the robot absorbs all the debris, steel beads, soybeans”

A tornado in my house that sucks up soybeans.

    Perfect, I’ll take 2.

    • +2

Sounds like an upgrade to most tornado's that leave the debris behind.

Any deals on filter, brush etc?

  • +3

Amy deal for 2nd gen cheaper than $468?

  • +5

Any deals on debris, steel beads, soybeans, dust or millet that this thing apparently eats?

  • Already got three from past deals.. one is still sitting brand new..need to resist, wife is no longer doing the cleaning anymore and keep complaining I have spent that much on a robot cleaner

    • So she wants to take the cleaning job back from the robot?

      • +5

She’s got a reason for not cleaning at all now…and I have to empty all the dust container from this thing and pull it back to life once it got stuck … etc etc…never needed to do all these when wife was doing the cleaning :)

    • How many of these do you need in a home?

      • One per floor level :)

  • +1

How’s the dust holding capacity on these? How often do you have to generally empty it (compared to gen2?)?

    • 420ml for 1st generation, 480 for 2nd generation.

    • I have a lounge/diner with two rugs and have to empty the gen1 after one clean. It is just something to be aware of - I am very happy with mine.

    • If you vacuum daily, after each clean.
With pets sometimes twice per clean

    • How often you have to empty it largely differs - house size, how dusty/dirty it gets, animals, kids tracking mess inside etc. I set mine to clean 5 days a week, and empty the bin every week, but don't have kids or pets.

  • +3

this hold its values better than omega rolex

  • +1

    Any good deals on Gen2?

  • Please read this before you buy. Many peeps including me complain about Laser distance sensor issue after using few minutes/days/weeks

1 year warranty is not good enough.

    https://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=547591&extr…

    • How bizarre. Got two of these and never heard of this?

      • I know I might be bad luck. I don’t know xiaomi 2nd gen has the same issue. But I am quite sure their laser diode has a certain defect rate. It eventually will be burned as it is a consumtion part.

You are familiar with eletronics.. here is the root cause.

        https://youtu.be/gE059GsgVTg

        • It does…

I had a gen 2 (the S50) which I only used once a week (if even that) and it recently threw an "Error 1". Troubleshooting steps recommended was to move the vacuum away from any obstacles and make sure laser is still spinning - both of which I've done.

Ended up returning it to the seller for a refund.

    • Even the far more expensive Roomba and Neato robo vacs only have a 1 year warranty, so a 1yr warranty isn't unreasonable.

  • +1

Have had one for over a year.

    Best gadget for the home!!

  • +1

Zone cleaning is available for the first gen now.

I've had mine for about 16 months. Best purchase ever.

  • +1 on the best purchase ever (~ 11 Months). We've got 2 dogs and 2 cats and have to empty it mid clean when doing the whole house, but so worth it. Although we've just bought a stick vac for the stairs, tight places and pre-cleaning bigger clumps of animal hair during shedding time. You do get best use of it if you do a quick run around to pickup obstacles and move chairs together to allow better access, rather than relying on the timer. Would like to see more deals on the consumables too.

Can anybody comment on the longevity of these? Has it been out longer than a year? I'm just concerned that if I buy one of these and flog it for a year I'm basically just paying for a "service" (automated cleaning) rather than a device whose cost can be amortised over a longer period of time.

    • +2

i got mine in march last year (purchased from a different supplier), still going strong with no issues.

    • +1

I've had mine about a month shy of 2 years and it's still going strong - that's with it set to clean 5x per week at least. Since I got it, it's only improved - new features like zone cleanup, sending it to a specific point in the map and doing a spot cleanup etc. I also bought 2 more for family members last Christmas and theirs are still going strong too - and now my brother has added one to his wish list this year. If mine was to stop working, I'd turn around and buy another one instantly - the cost is 100% worth it (and when I originally bought mine they were $450 odd, so even more worth it now!)

I use one in our Indoor Farm - Sucks up all manner of seed's, sunflower hulls, dirt, offcuts etc.

Never missed a beat - Runs nightly. Empty the dust bin weekly.

I've attached motion sensor flashing red and blue lights to it. Works well :)

I also have one at home, for the wooden floors - Wife and I only ever have to spot vacuum now.

  • Ive been told that these get stuck on cords. For anyone who has got one, do they?

    • They tend to 'climb' over cords. They really aren't a fan of shoelaces though.

    • It will chew up and get tangled on small cords ie phone chargers and the likes, but it seems to be fine with not trying to eat slightly thicker ones like power cords and network cables - though where possible you should try to avoid it running over them (possible it could partially chew it up and break the cable or similar).

Zone cleaning is certainly available for english. you just need to select Mainland China as the server. The language can still be set to english

    • My server is set to Singapore and zone cleaning works normally. If I set to Mainland China, it won't detect the vacuum.

    • I upgraded the firmware this week on my English Global version and Zone cleanup was available - Singapore Server

  • How many people have actually tested the warranty?

  • Won’t fit under my bed :(

  • Can this be used on carpeted floors ?

    • Yes, it is fine for carpeted floors.

  • Rookie question: Can you use this without downloading the app?

    • I don't believe so.

    • +3

Yeah I have used mine for the last week or so without using the app, just press the start button and it goes.

      • Thanks. It's for my mum and she's not keen on having to use a phone to talk to it over the internet, nor giving China a map of her house. If it still works with basic vacuuming functionality just pressing the button, that's perfect.

        • +1

I use it twice per week and never use the ap. Even just pressing the button there are some different cleaning options. My husband has downloaded the ap and it sends him messages but it also gives these verbally, such as empty the vacuum. Highly recommend this machine.

How is Shopro in terms of dealing with warranty? Do they make you jump through hoops or are they 'warranty-friendly'?

  • How’s the suction on these bad boys

    • +1

Not bad. You can set 5 different suction power via the app and on the fly while it's vacuuming too.

  • Got mine for $315 from ebay with the ebay plus discount offer ($369 original price minus %15 off).

  • I have this one and love it. However, its accessories are getting nearer to replacement. Apparently, there seems to be lot of non-Xiaomi accessories on internet for cheaper than Xioami for this vacuum.

Just wondering if anyone here had purchased the non-Xiaomi accessories for this vacuum and how their performance is.

    Thanks

    • +1

I have purchased some filters from Aliexpress, they look identical and have worked fine for at least 2 months. This is a very important part as if the dirt gets inside it would damage the unit. Buy ASAP as it takes ages to receive.

      • Thanks for the comment!

  • +1

It has its flaws, but this robot is my best purchase in the last few years. Had my for nearly 2 years now, haven't touch my vacuum cleaner ever since.
