I just contacted Telstra live chat and they agreed to add 10GB for the 49$ plan without changing the details (i.e. keep the port in credit)
Other people might be interested in doing this :)

Interesting, did you manage this without renewing the contract?
I got the to confirm my wording that 'nothing would change in the contract except I would have an additional 10gb' and they agreed.
Whether I end up in a dispute in 12 months well we will see.

I just contacted Telstra and at first they said I had to re-construct my plan but after saying my mate did it, they approved the request.
I suggest anyone else who wants to try, just be polite and you should be good.

Yeah, I had this already so I was on 25GB but after contacting the rep this morning I'm now on 30GB. So an extra 5 just for asking to match the existing offer.
