What Digital Subscriptions Are You Subscribed to?

Hey everyone.

I have been noticing that there are far too many subscriptions in the past few years. For example eBay plus, Spotify, Youtube Premium, VPN'S, Amazon Prime.

What do you guys think of the digital subscription models and what do you guys subscribe to? Do you guys think it was fine before you had these subscriptions / did not need them or have they changed your life for good or bad? Have they had any financial impact on your life?

This is what I'm currently subscribed to -

Youtube premium / Youtube red
Spotify premium
PrivateVPN
eBay Plus
Netflix
Strava

I find subscriptions beneficial and don't mind paying small amounts per month for them

Comments

  • Me
    - Youtube premium / Youtube red - used the 3 months free Google Play Music offers - I only need to pay a few $ per month extra to get YT Prem
    - Netflix
    - VPN and digital APC mag subscription when I was trying to burn all my Telstra credits (they'd cracked down on free credits from prepaid kits)
    - Stan - when free offer rolls around so I can catch up on Better Call Saul once a year

If you connect your VPN to london netflix you can watch the latest episodes of Better Call Saul! :)

      • I watched the first few episodes and was bored stiff. Does it get more exciting, or stay much the same?

        • The pace is very glacial, to pad out and stretch the storyline
It relies on that and nostalgia of Breaking Bad. The Chuck vs Jimmy plot/trickery is interesting, at least

And Saul/Jimmy is an ozbargainer in spirit, he skimps on everything and gets by with cheap/free stuff and labor

          • @payton: Thanks for responding, that’s everything I wanted to know. Looks like I probably won’t continue with it. Appreciate you saving me time.

paid subscriptions are a scam to get money from you, especially ebay plus

    • How is that?

      • the developers can get rich quickly because they get a continuous supply of money from heaps of people..

        • +2

I wouldn't call it a scam though, you pay for a service you get

          • @cya: I dont understand why you pay for youtube red? I could understand if it is for music but you already pay for Spotify

    Ozbargain Platinum.

It's the best; unlimited negs, you can post comments under jv, 30 minute earlier access to deals, 1 hour a week of telephone life-coaching from Scotty.

It's easily the best $1,000 per month that I spend.

    • +2

      where do I sign up

      • +3

I'm not sure if we are accepting new members. I will have a chat with Neil and the mods at Friday drinks.

  • I pay for a few subscriptions, but hands down, Amazon Prime is THE best. For currently $2.99 a month, I get items delivered free with no minimum that are cheaper than in-store and a full streaming service. Seriously can't beat the value in any other subscription.

    • I'm convinced but how do you get Prime for $2.99/mth? Was this some old intro promo? Current deal is $4.99/mth until Jan 2019.

      • With this amex promo :) It's actually $2.50 which is even better lol!

        • Sadly it's fully subscribed now.

  • Motortrend on Demand, eBay Plus, Adobe CC, Amazon Prime, Spotify, AFR.

  • Xbox live
    Netflix
    eBay plus
    Amazon Prime/Twitch
Audible (only for the echo dot lol)
    Google Play Music
    Shipster
    Foxtel Now
    Office 365

    Think that's it?

Majority of these are included or free trials haha

  • Ozbargain Supercharged

  • Xbox live
    Netflix
    eBay plus
    Amazon Prime
    Spotify Family
    Hulu
    PureVPN
    Grammarly

I think having eBay Plus and Amazon Prime has made me spend more than I usually would on both platforms.
Without the VPN I would not have subbed to Hulu.
Netflix provides unlimited entertainment and now it would be hard to do without (subbed since April 2015).
Probably not getting the most out of Xbox live but it's paid for another year or so.
I subscribed to Grammarly to help with my husband's university assignments as he's not a native English speaker and I'm not confident with checking his work for him.
Paying for Spotify is particularly great as I can put stuff offline for long drives where I have no/patchy phone service for hours and also for long flights. Oh, and the ads are annoying when all you wanna do is listen to music.

  • For me only
    Spotify (family)
    Discord Nitro
PingZapper (for gaming, used to be wtfast but PZ was a cheaper option)
    YouTube Red (family)

  • Gas
    Electricity
    Grammarly
    Bitdefender

    • Free trial of LinkedIn education & Pluralsight
    • From work have got office 365.
  • VPN
    Amazon prime
    PSN+
    gas
    Electricity
    Rent
    Phone
    Crappy adsl

  • Netflix (Ultra for friends and family)
YouTube Red Premium (before when it was free and I could be bothered to make a new account but honestly now I just live with the ads)
TPG (NBN50 unlimited + $10/month home phone plan)
I don't use Spotify enough to justify it though the ads are kind of annoying more so than YouTube since you can't skip them.
