    Hmmmm…. this or Aldi’s one?

    • +3

This is 50W stronger if it helps!

      • +14

Hmmm. More power means more electricity used, but less power means more kJ I have to use to vacuum which means more food intake… hmmm

        • +2

          You're a Lizard, Spock.

        • +3

Although you use more power with this, it might be worth considering that it's likely faster to clean up with (as a result of the increased wattage), leading to an overall lowering of energy used as you have it running for less time….

Assuming efficiencies are the same anyway. Which they probably aren't 🤔

          • @kale chips suck: This is the small version 12 Litre, so i dont think it will clean that fast

            • @asa79: That'd only make sense if you were filling up the 12L frequently and having to empty it all the time was slowing you down.

        • No, more power would mean you need to use more kJ (all else being equal), because the greater suction would mean there is more friction between the vacuum tool head and the floor.

        • so use it when your solar system is at full generation !

1 vs 3 Year Replacement Warranty

      • +2

Yeah, excellent point. 3yrs it is

      • +8

Plus with the Bunnies Ozito one, odds are it will be in stock or easily sourced if you actually need to replace it so you can likely walk in with the dead unit and walk out with a replacement. Good luck doing that with the ALDon't one in 3 months.

  • Hi OP, what makes these more outstanding than normal Vacs?

    • +5

It's a wet dry vac. It can suck up water, sawdust, bolts, wet leaves.
You can shove it in reverse to clean the woodshop, blow out the house for blockages.

It's noisier and more awkward and a whole other beast to a vacuum you'd use to just clean the carpet.

    • +2

      These can suck liquids.

      • +7

Bet it can't suck up the thick shakes from my local takeaway. Then again, neither can I - I need to wait for them to melt a bit before I can savour the goodness.

      My apologies alvian.

If you don't mind, can I add your info to the OP?

      • +51

You beat me fair and square. I spent too much time verifying the price of Macca's soft serve cone. This is your deal, do what you like :-)

        • +45

Thank you. I promise I'll shout you the 6 soft serve cones if we meet.

@Taegukgi: Who negged chibot's comment? It was completely harmless. Here's a balancing +.

            • @alvian: The voting system needs to be worked but forum owners seem not understanding that anyone can just give a neg out of nothing but we don't know what reason.

          • @Taegukgi: Nawww you guys!

  • The hose connector socket on the drum on these are weak as … Get the next model up.

    • +5

3-year replacement warranty — get a new one every 3 months!

  • Darn, bought one a few days ago.

    • +14

Buy again and get a refund on the old receipt.

    • +4

Buy another and return it with the old receipt

      • are you allowed to do that? what do you say?

        • No, it's fraud. But you'll almost certainly get away with it.

      • +4

tell them you bought the aldi one.

  • +1

I got a robot vacuum so just need something to do car - would this be alright to get sand from car mats/seats?

    • +1

Definitely will. Wet sand, dry sand, no problems.

    • Wouldn't a cordless be better for the car? (Big price diff I know)

      • Not as powerful but it def does the job. I use it all the time

        • I haven't tried cordless vacuums in the car, but i find the more power the better. It's hard to get all of those little ingrained bits of dirt etc out of the carpet in the foot well. And it's really not that bigger deal if you have a garage to plug the vacuum in. it only has to move between 2 spots/sides.

  • These are great for outdoor enclosed areas.

  • What does it mean by 'wet vacuum'? is it applying some water based product on the carpet and it sucks it up? (lel)

    • +2

It means that the machine has an internal float that stops water getting to the electrical bits, so it's safe to use to vacuum up fluids.

I use mine when I need to dig some holes for fenceposts, or whatever.

I use my pressure washer to blast the hole and then the wet and dry vacuum to get the water and sludge out of the hole (which is full of water, usually, as I have clay for soil and it doesn't dissipate). Repeat if I need a bigger/deeper hole.

My mum's place sometimes floods and she's got one as a "mop".

      • Lol i used it during a storm when our place nearly flooded. Saved my house. Also when the toilet broke.

        • +14

Beware. Using your vacuum cleaner as a toilet will void the warranty.

          • +1

@JerryB: You'll have bigger problems than warranty if you turned it on to suck the liquid out of you.

  • Good for cleaning roof gutters??

    • Was also thinking this, anyone tried for this purpose?

    • or could it be used to suck up leaves in a paved backyard?

      • I use the shopvac version all the time for this purpose. No issues at all apart from large harder leaves that require some coercing

    • +2

Doubt it a leaf blower would be better ! This struggles to pickup anything at home I use the dyson (when I shouldn't).and works better

    • +2

How are you going to get it up there? sounds like a great way to fall off.

      • -2

Indeed, reminds me of the Irishman who broke their arm ironing the curtains when they fell off the ladder.

  • Bunnings is the winner!

  • I guess this kind vac has very poor filtration system? And therefore not suitable for indoor use?

Should be prefect for car when using it outdoor.

    • I was hoping to wash down asbestos and vacuum it up with this. I know typically people recommend a HEPA filter but thats on a dry vac. Anyone confirm?

      • -1

Not familiar with asbestos regulations but if sucking up liquid hepa not necessary.

      • +2

        A really bad idea

      • +3

Honestly, don't DIY asbestos removal. Maybe if you're 70 years old already… :p

        • I was also thinking noone over 70 should be complaining about not being able to find work!

On a serious note I am not having to do removal, the house I am in is a typical fibro clad house with a fibro clad garage. I do a lot of work fixing things up and use the garage as a workshop. The roof of the garage is an old fibro roof in good nick buck its unpainted and theres no internal sheeting in the garage. I was thinking that over the years with the expansion and contraction of the material with fluctuating temperatures, there may have been a significant enough amount of fibro dropped to cause an issue. So when i am vaccuming saw dust in there from a project I would like to know that should there be any fibro particles they are being captured.

        • -1

I advertise at the old folks home for a cleaner, and pay them cash …. so no money trail back to me …and with alzheimers they probably think they cleaned their own home …

      • I had to remove a few square metres from a kitchen reno (old stove culvert) . Cheapest quote was $300 and I had already removed it . Local tip charged $80/ton with a minimum charge of $25 but it had to be double wrapped in plastic and taped up .
Wasn't too concerned . I live in an old area and almost everytime I put a shovel in the ground I end up digging up half a dozen bits of broken asbestos .

  • Trade discount? Power pass?

    • +2

There will never be a Power pass discount on Ozito power tools/power garden because it is for DIY use only.

    • They will expressly not honour the warranty if you use your trade card. They claim it's not for trade use. I've had this discussion with them already. Not sure if it's legal if you've legit used it at home.

      • Woah I’ve never thought about my purchases from this angle.

I naively put all my Bunnings purchases on my card so I could access warranty if required without a bill…

Might have to rethink my strategy.

        • +1

Yup, same. I first learned of it when I bought a Ryobi air nailer for my garage - not used in my trade (heavy industry) in any way - and staff initially rejected replacing it when it failed after 4 hours of use.

They didn't want to, that was just policy. I was fortunate that they replaced it anyway.

The Ozito batteries are in the same class.

          • @kale chips suck: Tough, man. Which Bunnings was this? Might have been a stuck up staff member?

            • @hashtagbargain: I'd prefer not to dob them in; the staff are by and large brilliant.

I got the impression that it was just a policy they were expected to comply with, even though they didn't agree with it personally. A manager sorted it after I protested.

        • with the amount of stuff I buy, doubt they would find it buried in 100's of transaction unless they have special app for searches ….

I use power pass too for the warranty but have never gone in with something and asked them to search for it …

      • I really don't think its legal under consumer law for them to not honour warranty.

    • Ahh.. yes good old tricks
I went through about 6 of these and yes, don’t use your power pass
It doesn’t look good when you return your 3rd vacuum
To be fair, I didn’t use them much but I was vacuuming hydrochloric acid

  • +1

It has spy chip so its cheap and send info about where you clean up.

  • +1

prefer the ryobi over the ozito (have had both 20L ones with the 1250W motor), but this one with the smaller tank is a huge price difference making it hard to beat.

  • Does this need paper bags to operate? I'm seeing what looks like bags in the picture, not quite sure though.

    • I would like to know too, and if it has a filter and of so what sort?

      • Yes, needs bags. $12 for 5. Aldi one is bagless.

        • Aldi one is bagless.

          Are you sure about that?

          • +1

@CVonC: My Aldi one is bagless. Its not this model but the previous one which I think was about 6 months ago.

      • You can go bag or bagless. I use bagless all the time. Bag just provides more filtration

      • you can use with or without bags as it has a foam pre-filter, I advise using bags as cleaning the foam filter is a hassle.

    • +2

ive used mine without bags, just the felt elastic bag over the filter.

It works okay, but largely depends on what you want to suck up. If it's large stuff, it all sits in the bottom no issues, however if it's a fine dust - it will clog the bag (i assume that would be when you use the paper bag)

      • I bought one a few months back, and not a big fan - wish I bought a more expensive ryobi one. The problem is the felt elastic bag can't be replaced. I didn't realise that, and threw it out because it was covered in crap. Now I have to stick to the paper bags (which are nearly the price of the damn vacuum).

The larger ozito and ryobi ones have filters that can be replaced.

        • grab a drawstring bag or something? better than nothing

  • Wondering if I can suck my algal / rotten leaf / muddy muck of a pond dry. I'm pretty sure it can't handle it. Ps the pond is ultra bad

    • Empty the machine every 12L? It will take you forever.
      You need a venturi pump.

  • +1

Correct me if I'm wrong. I see a bag on the photo. Does it mean it is not bag-less?

    • You can use the bag if you want to use it on dry dirt and dust etc, and it's a lot less messy when you empty it.
If you are using it for heavy dirt etc, or anything wet dont use the bag, you can just tip the drum out into the bin.

  • +4

Deal! This should make cleaning the fleshlight much easier.

  • I had a larger wet vac a couple of years ago, not this brand. It also had a plastic pipe and it was very weak, you can't put much pressure on it when using it or the pipe would bend and eventually broke.
Not sure how strong this one is but if you want one that will last, and do some heavy duty cleanups get one with a metal pipe, but for this price hard to go wrong.

  • The model with a power socket in the top for a tool is handy. It turns the vac on when you run the tool. They are loud.

  • Anyone have any experience with these as a "shop vac"? I have a table saw that throws saw dust everywhere (much to wifes disgust lol)

    • +1

Used mine with a rotary sander and it worked.

  • +1

Got this yesterday, darn, it is powerful. And LOUD!. Needed it for indoor use with a pressure washer combination to clean up very messy ceramic tiles before applying sealant on top. Tried it out by tipping water and it sucked it up beautifully. I think this will do the job just fine. Only gripe will be that the tank would be very small and will need to keep tipping the water more frequently. Excellent machine for this price.

  • ps the Belconnen Canberra store has the 4ah Ozito wet n dry vac with 4ah battery for $69.30 on clearance tag & the one with battery is no longer on their site. Considering the current price of the 4ah battery at $30, its makes it a $40 wet vac

  • We have one of these and it works better than our crappy Dyson.

  • +3

    Have one from a previous deal… (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/394994)
Even if cleaned and emptied, it is too weak to pick up the leaves on the porch on the first (2-3) tries.
I would rather go for a more powerful one.

  • Good price. Still have the 20L model sitting new in its box. Paid $25 for it from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/182927

    • me too!

    • Was $25 in Feb 2015, now $65 in Oct 2018. That's ~27% p.a. interest compounded monthly. You've done very well with your investment.

  • Honest question: assuming I'm OK with the higher noise levels (will put on noise cancelling headphones), could this be used indoors as well?

    • +3

try2bhelpful gave a link to productreview of the next model up. Reviews said the filters are basic and are unavailable to trap the fine dust particles; the fine dusts exit out the blower port back into the room.
