Thanks to the amazing 12.5% cashback offer from CR and Shopback, this brings RDR2 to about $60.375 for a preorder. Amazing value and I reckon this would be the cheapest any brick and mortar store would offer. At least you get the convenience of shipping on release day to save petrol.

Update 11 Oct: Cashback offers have expired.
Update 20 Oct: Price now $62, from $69.

Black OPs 4 sells for $54.25 after 12.5% shopback/CR cashback (thanks aja12!) - https://www.amazon.com.au/Call-Duty-Black-Ops-PlayStation/dp…

Edit 11-Oct-2018: I made a calculation mistake. I wasn't supposed to include GST. RDR2 would cost $62.73 after cashback.

      How much is COD cashback?

        • +11

It's a Catch marketplace item, not covered by club catch membership, so with the $6.95 shipping it is straight up $4.95 more expensive before any cashrewards benefit clever clogs.

    • +4

      $67 for Call Of Duty?

    • +20

Your comments are annoying much more often than they are helpful

    • Yeah but COTD sucks.

    • -1

      Comparing COD with RDR2?

      What a joke.

  • +5

16 days until release, let the price war begin!

  • +1

Don't forget about the awesome pre-order bonus.

Don't think it will get better than this. GET ON IT!!

    • +1

Wow! What preorder bonus? Did not know.

Nice. Lmao I used to abuse my warhorse. That guy was indestructible.

          • +1

@Julius: HAHA, I was playing it last night, whistled, and the horse jumped from the cliff, smashed on the rock and died LOL!

Not sure why it's funny, probably because it's so abrupt when you call for it.

            • +1

@RocketSwitch: Haha, that's hilarious! Your horse pulled a Homer Simpson. I wished there was a Red vs Blue Youtube version of RDR. I'd watch it in a heartbeat.

          • +1

@Julius: I got an achievement my bf didnt know about because I used the warhorse exclusively from the second I got it.

            • @[Deactivated]: Dat feeling when you are 1 trophy away from 100% completion

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: That would be Spurred to Victory!! Trying to get that too. Which mission did it unlock in for you?

              • @RocketSwitch: I do not clearly remember now, it was so long ago. It may have unlocked another horse.

    • I ordered Hitman S2 through Amazon and it's supposed to come with a Sniper Assassin mode with pre-ordering but I haven't seen it yet and it's been a month since I placed my order. Is there anywhere we need to go for it?

      • They usually send you an email with the code or the game comes with it.

I would send them an email saying, "OI, where my code?"

        • that's too loud, you'll get caught.

      • +1

I've pre-ordered a few things from Amazon and never seen the bonuses come with it. I'm Tempted to cancel my Amazon pre-order as I don't trust them to provide the bonus codes. I pre ordered Spiderman and as far as I know the standard edition was meant to come with bonus suit and such. Noting in the case when it arrived and nothing in my email inbox. Did I miss something?

      • I ordered Hitman S2 4 times from Amazon and cancelled the order just to get a couple copies of Sniper Assassin since it has co-op. You get the code emailed to you between 15-30min after placing your oder.

  • +9

If the release date is a Friday that means that won't make it on time to be able to play on the 1st weekend, sorry take my ozbargain license away, I am paying RRP,

    • +6

Pretty sure Amazon, ship the day before with expedited delivery for pre-orders so you should actually receive it on the Friday. I mean there is a risk it could get delayed for whatever reason but a few friends of mine have done it and received it on the day of release.

      • +4

Yeah, I got my copy of Spider-Man on the day of release. They overnighted it the day before.

      • +2

In WA you'll be lucky to get it by the next Wednesday tbh

    • +7

You can buy from EB and return within 7 days for a full refund

      • A shitty move but viable.

        • +5

Word on the street is that they resell them as new anyways so my conscience is clear

          • +4

@jrjr: EB are a terrible company who treat their staff poorly (dare I say illegally). Use them and abuse them.

            • @imurgod: And it's their fault that digital games are RRP.

              • @smartazz104: Firstly, what does digital games have to do with the way they treat their staff? Secondly, they've been overpriced for decades. Well before digital games and even so, they're the only ones who charge so much. Every other retailer charges far less. Despite what you may think, there's a huge profit margin in games. I can tell you that they buy ea console games for well under 30 bucks wholesale.

                • @imurgod: What I meant was, the reason digitally buying console games costs so much is because MS and Sony have deals with the likes of EB to not undercut their prices, or else they won't carry their brands. So, I was just jumping on the "bash EB" bandwagon. Other retailers charge less because they can afford to make a loss; other departments cover the shortfall.

                  • +1

                    @smartazz104: I didn't know that. Interesting.

They're idiots really since Steam has it just about right.

Although trust me, nobody is making a loss. There is a huge margin on games. Not sure about consoles, but definitely games.

I'll never understand these weird, counter-productive deals they all make; timed exclusives, exclusives, etc.
Gamers have created this strange, toxic competition and the companies are promoting it.

Before this, games pretty much came out on every platform and gamers were just happy to play. I can't remember ever arguing that my C64 was better than someone's Atari ST or Amstrad.

                    Anyway, I've drifted off-topic. Apologies.

        • +1

It’s not a shitty move. Every wise player does it. They make enuf selling to mums at $99 ea.

      • Humm that's a good idea but is there any chance of having a cranky manager refusing it?

        • +2

          Bring bikies.

        • +1

          Absolutely Zero.
I've returned games for 'change of mind' at least 10 times (I'm fussy and also a bit of a dick) and never had an issue at all.

          • @idonotknowwhy: That's not entirely true. They can refuse and from what I can tell it's 100% at manager's discretion if they will or not. There is no iron clad way of saying they will always accept a return from a customer. They can also ban you at any time from using the policy if you are found to be abusing it.

        • noper, you won't want to return it though.

        • Just tell the cranky manager he/she looks beautiful today and they will let you.
Oh wait it's not a movie.

      • Tried doing this with Super Mario Party, they said they couldn't refund me only exchange it.

        • +4

you just went to the wrong EB or dob them in @ HQ as they can't refuse refund within 7 day of their return policy.

          • +1

@FeZZa21: They can refuse you if you’re not an eb world member

            • @[Deactivated]: you do know EB world is free right? :)

I've done quite a few returns within 7 days for refund (while waiting on online order to be delivered) at different stores and no issues.

              • @FeZZa21: I know eb world is free but people still don’t sign up if you don’t sign up you don’t get the option of 7 day returns

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: EB world is not required for 7 day return policy as long as there's a receipt:

                  19.1 Change of mind

If you have simply changed your mind and you are able to provide a valid receipt, or you are a member of our loyalty program EB World, EB Games may offer you an exchange or refund

                  https://ebgames.com.au/terms

            • @[Deactivated]: lol, i assumed everyone was

          • @FeZZa21: Although if they are being very picky if there is a dlc code of any type they can refuse a return. Not just season pass etc but additional map etc. I’ve never seen this happen but it’s in the terms. I think it’s mainly there so they can refuse ultimate editions etc which have been opened.

            • -2

@Garagesale: Yeah not sure about ultimate editions. Have only refunded standard editions with used codes.

              • -1

@FeZZa21: That's a bit too dickish, even by my standards…

                • @idonotknowwhy: It's not, they ask if it's been used and you say yes, they got a bunch of codes at the back that they replace with.

    • +1

Got my copy of Astro Bots a day before the release date, Super Mario Party the following monday after release (released on friday). It's a gamble

    • Yeah that's what's preventing me from preordering with amazon, I know it will arrive on monday/tuesday. I see JB are matching the $69, I'm going to preorder from them and pickup in store on the way home Friday.

      • If you have Prime shipping you get it on release day, I did for Spiderman

    • My friend ordered FIFA 19 Champions Edition from Amazon, it had a release date of 26th September but he got it on 25th September. Amazon keeps their promise, you wont get better shipping anywhere else

    • I have only got one plastic sealed copy of a game from EB and that was assassin's Creed Odyssey last week for PS4 on day of release. I had pre-ordered the PC gold edition through greenmangaming and was annoyed at the poor performance on PC due to it eating up CPU like a ravenous dog. At 30fps it's better but it has poor frame pacing like Bloodborne. It eats CPUs and isn't really well optimised. Decided to go to EB and get the PS4 version to run on my PS4 pro. To my surprise, it had a bit of frame pacing and streaming issues much like running the PC version at 30fps cap. Took it back 2 days later and was given a refund. But I felt bad because I know the next guy to walk in will probably end up with my used copy which looks new but isn't sealed so is technically and possibly legally not "new".

  • +5

In my opinion this isn't worth it. Same price at JB (less $6 cashback) and people who pre-order generally want to play on release day. The Spiderman Amazon pre-order deal had a few comments warning of late shipments. This releases on a Friday. If you don't get it Friday you'll be waiting until the Monday mailman. Is that a risk worth taking for the sake of the cash back?

    • Interesting. I've never had Amazon AU miss an expedited delivery timeframe. Was there restitution provided by Amazon Australia for those late shipments?

      • I got 10$ amazon credit when my purchase came late, after I contacted amazon customer service.

        • Not bad.

    • Yeah 100%, they taking your ozbargain license as well

    • Am I the only person who gets post on a saturday?

      • There's no post on Sunday.

  • +4

Wouldn't surprise me if someone does a $64 launch day price. Not competitive enough from Amazon IMO, especially if they can't have it delivered on/before release day.

    • Yep, same. Living in regional NSW, I'll chance that BigW will have it for $69 or less on Friday and be done with it.

    • Other comments suggest Amazon don't charge until shipment. So you could 'lock in' the cashback now, and simply cancel your order if something better comes along.

    • big w had assassin oyd for 64

    • Amazon have a pre order price guarantee. If you order through them and another retailer discounts below prior to release you get it for the lowest price. They also send express post the day before guaranteeing delivery on release day if you live where this is possible through AP.

  • no special editions on amazon either just the base…

    • -1

      Pre-order bonus.

      • -1

no special editions on amazon either just the base…

  • +2

Will this even work? Does Amazon charge for preorders upfront?

    • +5

They charge when it gets shipped.

I had my cashback tracked on two pre-orders the last time there was a bonus (including this game). According to TA, it needs to be on something that will ship within 60 days for the cashback to work with Amazon.

      • Thanks mate for clarifying! I might get on this then.

      • Thanks for the comment and reply was just about to ask this very same question.

      • Thanks for this info. I had thought it wouldn't work

  • +6

Woot! First front page deal post.

  • No PC ship, I am so furious! Enjoy mofos, I hate u all!

  • Why am I even considering the $150 ultimate edition? The extras are kind of mediocre…and yet, I still want it.

    • +3

Don't. Always buy vanilla version. You hit a point in life where you've got heaps of pointless crap you don't even like

  • +2

Ordered! How long does it take for CR to track my purchases and have the cashback actually go through? I have purchases from August that still hasn't been processed yet.

    • Hopefully Tightarse can provide a response.

  • +3

FYI - I was expecting Super Mario Party to be delivered by Amazon last Friday (release day). Metro Sydney. Only got it this Monday, so missed paying it over the weekend. Just be wary you may not get this on release.

    • That sucks! Especially when Sydney and Central Coast weather has been terrible for the past week. Hope you found something else to do!

  • +2

    Nice!

  • +2

Black Ops 4 is currently $62 delivered, so pretty good price with Cash Rewards factored in. Maybe you could add it to the post if you want OP?

    • I definitely can :)

  • +1

So I jumped on this using cash rewards, but then Amazon haven't charged me yet - does the 12.5% cash back definitely apply? Or will it just be whatever the cashrewards rate is on the date that amazon actually charges me?

    • +2

Yup will still apply, as per answer above.

      • Thanks! Missed it up there, my bad.

  • +2

If you haven't already you can use your free Amazon Prime Trial to get same day shipping for free so you get it on release day.

    • +1

Prime only "guarantees" 2 day shipping? I and use quotations, because from my experience, Amazon really don't seem to care if this guarantee is actually honoured. So there's really no telling when you'll get it.

      • When you actually check out and select expedited shipping it says "get it on its release day: October 26". Not sure if this counts..
