Ambiano 3L Digital Air Fryer $69.99 @ ALDI Special Buys (Sat 13/10/18)

1430
  • 3L capacity
  • 6 digital presets
  • LCD digital touch panel

Always wanted an air fryer but couldn't justify $300+ for a Philips.

Surprisingly, this gets pretty good reviews, same model just different colour.

Worth a try for $70, and you can always take it back for a refund if you aren't happy.

I love thrifty German supermarketeers.

        • +19

          When the mods aren't online.

          • +3

@Scab: I just reported you to the mods so they'll be online any moment now, by my calculations. Await the wrath and fury that's about to ensue.

          • @Scab: So, almost never?

          • @Scab: How do you know when they are offline?

      • +3

So when this gets recalled like a lot of ALDI products we can laugh?

      Savage.

  • mmmm, tempting to get this

Will it make my fries crispier than my oven?

    • +3

I find that food in the Air Fryer is crispier and less dry compared to that in a fan forced oven

      • Can I use it to cook meats? Like Roast pork?

        • +8

You could, but it wouldn’t be kosher 😁

        • +4

You could but you won't once you realise you would have to clean it after every use - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPa-5zrThmI

        • I cook crispy pork belly in my Philips air fryer. I wish I had the XL though.

    • +9

Air Frying is basically a turbo charged fan forced oven. The hot air rushing over the chips makes them cook in a fashion that is closer to frying than a traditional oven.

      • +33

You'd save money too and have less fights with house mates when they use the oven twice a day…

    • +1

I've tried the cheap kmart deep fryers. Which are rated better than the cheap aldi dp. Still pretty shit as they soak up too much oil and unevenly cook which I think is due to temperature fluctuation even though I small batch. PiTA to use as well were as an air fryer is probably much easier without the oil bath to worry about.

    • +8

Will it make my fries crispier than my oven?

Depends how crispy your oven is.

  • AlDI is the GOAT

    • It depends on your definition of “GOAT”. You just might be shouting about how crap they are.

      • +1

I think he means they are BLEH!

  • Anyone can comment on what Air fried Sweet potato chips taste like?

Assuming theyre like 3x healthier than fried.

    • +1

if buying the frozen ones, they are actually a bit hard to get right. sweet potatoe chips often come out still too soggy or too cooked whereas pototoe chips generally always come out right… so yeah a bit harder to get right.

if you're cooking from fresh, they come out a bit dry imho.

      • +2

        One pototoe
        Two pototoe
        Three pototoe
        Four

      • I microwave my chips first and then oven bake them to get a better result.

    • Depends on brand of sweet potato chip. I've tried McCains and also Bells and my preference is Bells as they have a better crunch. Key is to cook them a bit longer for more crunch and remove as soon as they're finished cooking.

      • +1

Sweet potatoes, now also available as actual vegetables.

    • The key is to double fry them for that extra crispiness

  • +1

How different is this really when compared to a good fan forced oven for crispy foods?

    • +2

Oven requires preheating and therefore takes much longer, not to mention oven will heat up your kitchen (annoying on a hot day). Using Philips airfryer I can cook frozen chips perfectly in around 15 minutes, depending on amount of chips.

  • +3

I wonder how does this compare with Kmart air fryer
    https://www.kmart.com.au/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDi…

    • My thoughts exactly. The Kmart one is very well reviewed

    • I can vouch for the Kmart one. It is very good.

      • What warranty does the Kmart one have?
        Aldi fryer has 3 years

        • But Kmart you can likely get a replacement unit immediately whereas Aldi you'd have to wait since it's not regularly stocked?

      • Seconded.

    • Bought the Kmart air fryer last month. Gets used quite frequently and works really well (wife approved).

    • Wow this kmart one is well reviewed and Retail $70! Why did i spend $100 on a tefal?!
Oh well. Now I know what to get for gifts!

    • +1

Another up vote for the Kmart air fryer. Was hard to find in stock, but once I got it I love it. It takes some practice to get evenly cooked food (toss every 3 minutes), and the fries are quite different tasting to deep fried ones but we love them now. I add a tablespoon of oil to a fullish basket to get that light oil taste, and a little chicken salt goes well with them too.

  • When is this day Staturday which you refer to?

      Staturday is before Stunday.

Not such a great idea being sexually aroused in a confined area with close friends.

        • They can edit and expire deals

  • +1

Don’t forget there is a 3 year warranty which makes it extremely good value.

    • And Aldi 60 day return option if you feel it’s not up to scratch. In 15 years of buying products from Aldi I only ever returned one, a leaky gas soldering iron.

    • How do people go about claiming Aldi warranties (besides 60 day satisfaction)? Can you just go to the store and get a refund?

  • Does anyone know whether the espresso machine is any good?

    • Try it and let us know, you can always take it back for a refund.

    • +1

We bought one to use on a site, gets hammered and still going 18 months later. Milk frother started to leak, replaced by Aldi no problem.

      • Cheers!

      • How did they replace it, at store level?

As they don't normally keep stock of Special Buys.

        • +1

I think they keep the espresso machines and milk frothers in stock to support their pod sales.

    • The coffee is rubbish

  • How do these compare to flavor wave style convection ovens?

  • How much food can you fry in one go? e.g. 1/3 a bag of 1kg frozen chips or 4 chicken tenders?

    • +1

The 3L does a 1KG bag no worries. Take about 20 mins and give the basket a shake say 5, 10 and 15 minutes. I'll be buying another of these this weekend.

  • is it easy to clean?

    • Would like to know this aswell. Apparently some are a PITA to clean.

  • Does this compare to the Phillips XXL for basket size.

Phillips define theirs as 1.4kg whereas Aldi lists theirs as 3 litres.

Edit: Someone already answered above. About 1kg for Aldi fryer.

  • There will probably be only 1-2 units available in store on that day… which will probably be sold out before the store even opens lol

    • Guess it depends on the store, my one has heaps of items when I get there about ten o'clock.

Never missed out on a special buy because of stock.

    • +3

It's standard procedure that you will need to get into a brawl with a granny to claim your fryer
