  • Any update on the Xiaomi ZMI Power Banks?

    • +3

They are loaded in a shipment on the way to Melbourne!

      • Yes.I.am.

        • Have a safe trip.

  • Another chinese fire starter anyone buying hope your insurance covers it.

    • +3

Umm..but it's one board to plug in all the "Chinese fire starters" without using individual AU-CN adapters
      :P

    • Illegal to sell here in AU, as the entire device is non-certified.

Standards compliance, Certification, Approval and Registration AND Compliance marking are MANDATORY.

      • +1

Yeah I don't really care and neither do many others by the looks of it.

this should be interesting …. someone importing and selling via an Australian business Xiaomi powewrboards, I presume they have been tested to comply with AS/NZS 3105

although china power points look similar (blade size), they are slightly different size to Australian (eg length and need for insulation on the plug active and neutral pins, etc).

Else I think there might be penalties for selling non complient electrical items …
    "

Selling safe electrical appliances and equipment

There are regulations that apply to the supply of electrical equipment and appliances. The requirements set out in the regulations must be followed. A failure to do so is a criminal offence.

    Electricity Safety (Equipment) Regulations 2009
Part 4 of the Electricity Safety Act 1998 – sets out the specific provisions for approval, supply and use of electrical equipment in Victoria.

    Recognised approval numbers in Australia

Regulations and Standards apply to all electrical equipment sold or offered for supply in Australia.

Certain types of equipment are classified as prescribed. These pieces of equipment must go through a certification process which ensures the equipment is compliant to the relevant safety standards before being offered for supply in Australia.
    Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM)

Prescribed electrical products must have an RCM on the appliance or an Australian approval number to show that the product has been certified.

This mark is currently recognised by all States and Territories of Australia."

so far people usually import these themselves from aliexpress, gearbest, and because they aren't selling them hasn't been an issue.

without the "tick" people might be entitles to refunds (ACCC and Fair trading)

I could be wrong, maybe they have been tested and have the compliance tick, but it just says "compatible", not compliant which might be misleading …

  • Any code for the 3-outlet powerboard? Thanks.

    • Hi Highnfar
It is part of the USB bundle offer, so 10% off would apply to it if you get a cable with it. Unfortunately its price is at cost already so can't add another 15% off.

      Cheers
      MM

hmm, why have I been negged, because the power boards aren't compliant and it is illegal to sell them in Australia ?
I'd love to see Xiaomi gear in Australia from an official distributor and they mod so they comply.

I doubt Xiaomi would do a special batch for Australia, so they lack the insulation and the pins on the lead are longer than Australian power point ….so if someone has a faulty one and notifies fair trading the seller might have to a recall ….

“These products were recalled because there is a risk of overheating and fire. The electrical contacts of the sockets are poorly aligned and the plastic enclosure does not meet the flammability requirements of the applicable electrical standard,” ACCC Deputy Chair Delia Rickard said.

    ……….

    The recalled products are:

Masters Home Improvement—Olsent 4 Outlet Powerboard
Corevision Limited— 4 Socket Powerboard Outlet
Masters Home Improvement—Olsent Powerboards 6 Outlets
Home Timber & Hardware Group—Assorted Olsent Powerboards

    • Ignore the neg. People are idiots and neg without explaining.

    • I've upvoted to balance the most recent neg.

  • I don't see any photos of the Xiaomi power board showing the plug. Can anyone confirm that they will plug into an AU socket please?

    • it will lack the insulation on the active and neural pin, and also the pins will be longer by about 1.5mm so it bottoms out past the Australian sockets ….I've got 2 damaged powerboards from Chinese power packs as the pins are longer than Australian power plugs …

      • Would you be able to upload a photo of the plug/pin.

    • +2

      Doesn't matter about the plug.

The entire device is illegal to offer for sale in Australia.

  • this seller doesn't show the power plug, but a picture of a Chinese non Australian compliant plug on xiaomi

    https://www.amazon.com.au/GadgetMania-CVAII-G765-White-Xiaom…

a compliant plug, insulation on active and neutral and pins will be shorter, even Alibaba has compliant ones for AU and NZ
    https://wholesaler.alibaba.com/product-detail/Australia-SAA-…

notice insulation on active and neutral and it has the "tick".

hope the seller uploads a picture and shows a compliant plug, else what they are selling is illegal and a criminal offence.

happy to apologize if I'm wrong, hence haven't negged.

    • Soooo….

You'd need a travel adapter to plug the power board into the wall outlet. Then it would only be useful if you had several devices that had Chinese plugs because you couldn't?/shouldn't? plug in anything with an Australian plug (unless you used more travel adapters).

Am I anywhere near the mark?

    • We get the point. Thanks. You can stop spamming the thread now.

    • does it mean that all xiaomi products are not Australian certified , i.e vacuum robot , air purifier etc…?

  • +2

It is totally and utterly illegal to even offer that powerboard for sale in Australia.

This kind of device MUST be AU safety certified/approved, and must have RCM registration.

    https://www.esv.vic.gov.au/technical-information/electrical-…

The relevant clause in the act:
    http://www8.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/vic/cons…

Huge difference between someone personally importing (also stupid), and actually importing and reselling. It's personal liability for the person who offers them for sale, which means the OP.

  • Was actually in China a week ago and saw these power boards for sale there. Thought about buying some, but came to the same conclusion that they would not be Aus certified, hence didn’t buy any. Not worth the risk in my opinion.
