Europe One Way from Perth $468, Sydney $519, Brisbane $522, Melbourne $563 @ Thai Airways

220

OK a follow on from the open jaw deals I posted a few days ago.
ONE WAY fares to Europe are also on sale with Thai Airways.

One way fares to Europe might seem a bit “odd” but I can think of a few scenarios where they may be very useful:
• Moving overseas (obviously)
• Only have enough points for the return flight (or, only have enough for a business class flight on points one way, so choosing to return in luxury)
• Backpacking through Europe with no exact end date (I have done exactly this before and wish this deal was around back then!).
• Combine with another one way deal from a different airline

Many dates available from June to Sept 2019 (excluding blackout school holiday period June 20 to July 9) for travel from Perth, Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne to Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Stockholm, Vienna and Zurich. Most flights are 21-24 hrs with a brief stopover in Bangkok.
Around $60 cheaper again via bestjet, Aunt Betty, etc, but if it were me I would be booking directly and paying the little bit extra.

Examples:
$489 – PER to LHR/MXP/VIE/BRU/OSL on 20th September
$519 – SYD to LHR/OSL/CDG/MUC/VIE on 10th July
$522 – BNE to LHR/OSL/MXP/VIE/CDG/MUC on 9th June
$563 – MEL to LHR on 2nd August

  • The date picker widget on the website won’t allow the selection of any date after May 2019. That was using European destinations from Melbourne.

    • It lets me select up to mid Sept 2019. I'm using firefox. Are you using chrome? In the other deal I posted people reported having issues with the Thai Airways website through chrome.

      • Tried Safari on iOS and also Edge on Win10

edit: I just tried Firefox on Win10 and still can only choose dates up until May 2019 and not further.

One way fares to Europe might seem a bit “odd” but I can think of a few scenarios where they may be very useful:
*you just broke up with your partner and you need some space from them,
*you're on the run from the police,
*your favourite song is The Final Countdown but you aren't too smart
*you are doing a history project about WW2 for high school.

  • how do you survive a 24 hour flight in economy?

Pretty easily really. You start by not being precious.

I became Singapore Airlines inflight quiz world champion and saturated the top ten alltime scores. (Questions repeated randomly after long enough so it became a matter of speed.)

I played a 5 hour marathon Texas hold em poker game once. Good times.

    • Me too. Can't imagine how my arse and back will feel like after all those hours.

      • Not to mention the lovely morning breath you’ll be greeting those picking you up with.

For me, I need to stretch my legs.

    • I think Thai will let you book a stopover in Bangkok for no/little extra cost if you'd like to break up the journey

      • If it's a 24 hour flight, Melb to BKK is 9 hours. So you still have 15 hours left to fly on the second leg.

        • Yes, but if you'd prefer not to do all that flying in 24 hours you should be able to book those two flights with an overnight (or a few nights) break in between for no extra cost. So you might fly MEL - BKK and then spend a couple of nights in Bangkok before continuing on to Europe.

You can also often book Virgin Atlantic fares for London - USA - MEL/SYD at a fairly good price (I previously got London - San Jose, LAX - Melbourne for $800). Combined with this deal you might be able to put together a well-priced RTW itinerary!

I’ve had rubbish experiences from Heathrow Immigration over the years can’t imagine the crap they would give you with a one way fare. You will be sent to the line with the Nigerians and Bangladeshians.

    • I didn't have any trouble entering the UK on a one-way ticket (admittedly I was at Manchester). Just showed the immigration officer a printout of my onwards ticket and he was happy enough.
