  • My local butcher sells really good jerky for $99/kg. How does that compare to other people’s experiences? Ok value? I tried putting it in sandwich bags for lunch but it gets a weird taste to it. Any suggestions?

    • +3

Yes, don't put it in sandwich bags or it will get a weird taste.

      • Hahaha legend

    • You can put it in bags of sandwich for lunch then it gets fine.

      • Noted.

  • I had some jack links from woolies a few weeks ago. Contains 25% sugar. Felt robbed. Ill give this a go, seems like its made with a bit of pride.

    • It might be now. I will try to find the link about the previous deals. The batch I got was pretty poor, but I believe they have changed things now.

Link to previous deal. The first comment has a few links to reviews etc:

On a side note, I was sent a free trial bag for pointing out a typo on their website. I didn't end up eating it though as I found that upon arrival the bottom of the packet wasn't sealed.

    • If i was you, i'd save your money and pass.

This stuff is like chewy dry bark

Good luck with this deal, last deal took 3+ weeks and vendor had ZERO communication to emails, facebook or the OZB thread. They also don't list a contact number anywhere, they have zero customer service.

In end I had to lodge a paypal dispute and was refunded by paypal.

    • did u still get the jerky tho?

      • No never received it but I did get all my money back

      • He got jerked around more than anything

    • As it is 'made to order' the wait is typically 2-3 weeks before your order ships.

      • +1

That's fine but it's no excuse to ignore your customer during those 2-3 weeks multiple people on OZB had same issue, the only time they contacted me was after lodging a paypal dispute.

  • Balls. Well, ive paid, see how they go!

    • You bought jerky balls?

i never got my $150 order from 2 years ago despite an email saying it was on its way 3 months ago.

be weary of buying jerky from here.

hope you got your money back

      or wary or both

    • i never got my $150 order from 2 years ago despite an email saying it was on its way 3 months ago.

What. I have to be reading this wrong - you ordered 2 years ago, and they sent an update email 3 months ago, so 1 yr 9 months after your order?

Are they growing the cows too in making it 'from scratch'?

      • +1

It is very sophisticated gourmet jerky

      • +1

I ordered 2 years ago and called them after not hearing a peep for a few weeks. They did not answer their phone. After some time I saw that they had posted on OZB so I messaged them and they said email their online store. After waiting and waiting I got a response saying they shipped my order but it never arrived. I still get told to email their online store email but they always promise it’s bejng made but never follow through.

  • on another note since Geronimo gets bad reviews is there another alternative?
and any options apart from beef? I'd love to try crocodile jerky

    • Chooey Mooey … Best. Also sells Chooey Rooey

If you really love jerky the best thing you can do is make your own it's so simple and way cheaper. I got a Sunbeam DT6000 dehydrator and an unused slicer for $30 on Gumtree.

Once you have these it costs about $25 per KG rather than hundreds per KG and you can tweak the flavours with chili, spices, garlic etc and make awesome jerky exactly how you like it. Plus you know how and where it was prepared.

    • and an unused slicer

what type of slicer? like a mandolin
      a model number/ make

don't love jerky myself, but the kids do- so I could try and make some myself

      usually get the aldi ones
they sometimes have specials like Biltong, and Mariani
but yes they are pretty expensive like $8 per 100gm

      • You can just slice by hand .

Go on YouTube and have a look at Bon-apetit channel
Only machine he uses is a dehydrator

      • The one i got was a Sunbeam ED9600, it's a little but more fiddly to clean then some of the commercial slicers but it is a good slicer and does the job well.

As kickmiass mentioned, you dont "need" a slicer but i've found with the very uniform jerky strips it makes the marination and drying process so much easier and consistent. Your strips will dry evenly, and all around the same time.

    • Hi LowRange, i love beef jerky, and would like to know how to DIY it.

What cut of the meat should i use?

How long should it be cooked in the dehydrator?

      Thank you very much!

      • I use topside roast, look for nice bits with as little fat as possible.

Then just slice, and add to the marinade for 12-24 hours. The marinade you make it to taste, either from scratch using soy, salt, spices, garlic etc. Or you can use something like a bottle of MasterFoods Soy, Honey & Garlic Marinade and throw in extras like Chili flakes, tobasco sauce etc. you can even got a bottle of liquid smoke from bbq stores to give it a smokey flavour.

Dehydrating time will greatly depend on the thickness of the slices, the heat of your dehydrator and moisture content of the meat. When i take the meat out of the marinade, i pat it dry with paper towel before dehydrating it.

Hope that helps, you cant go too wrong, just experiment.

        • thank you so much!

i'm gonna try to make some this weekend.

  • +2

Yeah I won't buy if you put a limit like this. I don't want to pay 15 bucks to ship 500g.

You used to not have such a limit, I suggest you go back to that policy.

Until then, I guess I'll wait for a 30-40% off Jim's jerky with no limit on the order value.

So I was one of the ones that commented how bad things had gone with Geronimo however they have turned it around now.

I know this as I was sent some samples after a previous order was not so good. The new samples I was sent fairly recently were much better, would have to be up there with some of the best I have tasted.

Yes there was a patch where it was very ordinary, but maybe give them a go again.

  • +3

Several of us received free samples last time and there has definitely been some improvement.

    • I'm not sure which batch of samples I got or when, it was earlier this year, they were ok, but nothing special and kind of dry, but I lived in the US and have yet to find as good here, so maybe i'm not the best to judge

      • Geronimo in general are just dry. I prefer Riverina personally and their Pork Jerky is the best.

  • Got a sample a while back. They’ve lifted their game.

  • I ordered from their last batch and they were a lot better. Probably as good as their original product.
However their customer service/communication skills are terrible. No order updates or response to my emails for about 4 weeks, only when I put in a PayPal query did they begin communicating. Once they did reply they did send me my jerky quickly though. Will probably wait till another 50 % off before ordering again.

  • it's tempting.
but too many bad stories above.
    will have to pass

    • +1

They're really fine! Just lower your expectations a little… like instead of expecting it to arrive in 2-3 weeks, think more like Christmas.

  • Did anyone receive their orders yet?

    • Not me, ordered 03/10 and still says processing

  • +1

Will be forever adding a comment to deals by this company - paid for via bank transfer and never received, sent regular followup emails (inc screenshots of order and bank transfer), never received a single reply!!

  • So these guys are still trading?

It's been over a month now and no word from them … I'm sure I got an email confirmation last time I ordered.

No responses on FaceBook, or emails, or their phone number

  • I've asked them WTF via PayPal - pretty damn dumb if that is the only way to get a response out of them

  • FYI they've just posted this on Facebook, might be worth following up if you still haven't received your order:

We have had some communication issues and a few customers have not received orders. Could you please send an email (not through facebook) to [email protected] We are trying to locate people that ordered as they have been lost due to software issues. If you could email with name and order number we will get back to you Monday/Tuesday. Thank you, The Geronimo Team

  • Yep … I have sent two emails to that address (mailto:[email protected]) and made about three posts on their Facebook page … but have had no response for over a week … funny thing is the only responses to their post that I can read are mine. When FB reports there are 10 replies … it’s like they have somehow quarantined me from reading what others ya e said.

I would have preferred the Jerky, but two months wait is more than enough and I have issued a dispute via PayPal.

Sad really as I did like their product … but after so many attempts to contact them, that are clearly being ignored, I can no longer bother with these guys … if I recall correctly I made about 8 x $100-$200 orders until now, so they are throwing away a loyal customer over lazy ness IMHO

  • I note that their website is now not operating
