I stayed in Vietnam for 5weeks back in June this year. I used the sim card from the company Vinaphone, giving 2GB per day for 30days. Cost was 90k dong a month, about $5AUD. Good for general browsing if that's what you're after.
Viettel also offers this. Using it at the moment

Also, it seems like a SIM costs about 50K VND, do you get any credit with this or just a number?
From what I could find online, the MIMAX90 (5Gb, 30days for 90K VND) plan seems ideal for a 12 day stay. Just wondering if I have to buy the SIM for 50K and then add 90K Credit, or add 40K credit as the SIM includes some credit.
buy a prepaid sim card at the airport. Should be ~200.000 vnd for unlimited data /30 days
This, it is not super fast 4g but it is sufficient.
Also, you get wifi pretty much everywhere you go in vn

I used a vietel SIM that I picked up at the airport. Awesome. 4g speeds. Was able to facetime with no lag as I was approaching the border to Cambodia. Can't remember the GB amount but service was great and it was cheap.

Tell them you want ‘Internet’ and they will activate it for you.I found a random small store in the Chinatown of Ho Chi Minh (Cho Lon) that sold me a SIM for 100K VND without ID. I have a feeling it was a tad risky but worked for the 2 days I was there.
300K sounds expensive. 200K sounds ok. I would aim for 150K or less.
Hi there if your staying in district 1, I'd just recommend buying a new sim every time you run out of credit. Sim cards are only $2-$3 with 4-5gb.
