Hi guys and gals, Am I able to get the Amex Explorer, use part of the bonus points and a year later relegate to the Platinum edge and transfer the points that i earned from the Explorer to the new (Plat Edge) card? Thanks

Nope - Explorer earns Gateway points, Plat-Edge earns Ascent.

I originally had a 30K limit on my Edge.. applied for Explorer and got approved for 10K
Took it… then called them to re-allocate the limits so they moved $38k to my Explorer and $2k to my edge…
I am just keeping Edge as it lets me earn Explorer points (i think its 3points per $) but the points are in Ascent program.
Als, I also still get the $200 and $400 travel credit for respective cards :)

However, if you apply for a Platinum Edge card separately in addition to the Explorer all of your points will be moved to Ascent (which is the higher of the two tiers)
I'd personally apply for the Explorer for the bonus and once the bonus has credited then apply for the platinum edge.
Extra hit on the credit score though.

Thanks Joe and Sardik, I really cannot justify having both cards as i rarely travel internationally and paying $590 a year. I held back from applying for the Explorer yesterday (75000 pts)but might apply for it if they offer 100K pts in the coming months.
I thought the minimum limit on the edge was $5k?
bimmeup, I am on the same path exactly like you. I need something which gives more point as need to use for regular usage. One benefit I find with edge is it comes with travel insurance which is not there in explorer.
Is there anyway to know when would be the next high point offer for both explorer and edge?

well.. hows this? For the ANZ travel adventure card its an extra $60/year per additional card holder!!!!! Very quickly turning into a crap card if you ask me :(
