                • @gimme: I believe the fee is $199 p.a. (waived for first year) but yes it is separate and the statements are also separate with the payment being made to Amex direct which makes me think that I will be able to keep it after cancelling the Mastercard.

                  • +1

@Yola: oh yes you can keep it for sure. I was just saying you will be incur the Amex portion of the fee. As a cheapskate I refuse to pay ANY fee to CC providers.

    Thanks for posting OP!

  • Eagerly awaiting our favourite OzBarg member, JV - where is the bargain here?

    • This is the 'normal' price/offer for November (or actually slightly less generous than before last year).

  • Yay! The OzBargain favourite time of the year. I wonder how fast the enrolment cap will be reached this year, every year it seems to be quicker and quicker…

  • Here we go again. Yay.

  • Thanks Op. I've got my 3x amex cards locked n loaded.

My cards are ready, knees weak, arms are heavy.

    • +11

Credits on my amex already - shop small spaghetti

      • +2

You only get 5 shops, 5 opportunities, will you capture them or just let them slip?

      • He's nervous, but the magnetic surface on his card is ready

  • Can you get multiple cards on the same account under one name? As in 1 main card plus 4 supps all in your own name? Or do they have to be friends/fam/sidebitch?

    • Could try Mr bohdud, b dud, etc.?

      • +3

I’ll just sign up my mates Ivan Itchyweiner, I.P. Freely, and Hugh Jass

I have two cards on the same account that are both in my name. AMEX actually suggested that when they offered me 7500 bonus points for adding a supplementary cardholder.
I've currently got a promotion on at the moment, I expect it's targeted, where if I spend $750 on the supplementary card in three months I get 3000 bonus points. Given I usually spend more than $750 per month on the primary card, this is very easy to do, just swap the card that's in my wallet with the one that usually sits in my drawer until Shop Small.

  • +2

    bring back the 10x. 5x is sad…

    • yer… just leads to more sup cards to be applied for lol…

  • Excellent… My local bottle shop is in this, so some cheap craft beer is on my horizon ;)

  • +3

    please, opal credit topup!

  • +4

Love this promo, but HATE that Amex map of participating Shop Small businesses.

  • When will Amex points gain 30% more when you pay by points?

    • You can get 30% extra when used on your vogue purchases.

    • Potentially after shop small ends like last year.

  • -7

To be eligible for the $10 back, >= $20 has to be spent in one single transaction this year. :(

Used to be in one or more transactions.

    • lol

  • Does anyone know if WA residents can somehow reload smartrider credit anywwhere. Akin to your opal?

    • +6

Learn to Google, it will help you a lot in life.

      https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/smartrider/retail-outlets

Yes, it says "where to buy", but I remember reloading at the UWA one years ago.

      • +1

Badly worded, I meant to say with amex, not in general. Obviously.. otherwise i would never have caught a train or bus all these years without that reload :(

    • yes you can. but you will lose the 20% discount for auto top up.

      • ahhhh good point. how does that work? I still have the auto top up on, will all my credit now now get the 20% discount on smartrider credit loaded? Or just the credit that I manually load to get this shop small?

Would think the $10 back would be worth more than the 20% more expsive fares?

  • +6

Hope the legend 'thydzik' is still around. I'll be looking out for your spreadsheets in Nov :)

  • +2

@Thydzik if you're still around, are you able to please help create the txt file with the list of locations?

  • Will CBA still have their Amex by then because I heard they’re getting rid of them soon unfortunately

  • Doesn't a SS weekend usually precede a main one?

  • looks like they have changed the map slightly but it is still crap. Still looking forward to the shop small after earning about $400 on the vogue promotion.

    • $400 dam, what did you buy?

      • +1

Vouchers for groceries all the way :-)

      • +2

I bought 7 coles myer gift cards, a suit for my husband with the payment split over 7 cards in David Jones and then a top from witchery, shoes from country road, a tie to match the suit from some men's shop and a voucher from Bailey Nelson for the glasses I am going to get but didn't have time on the day.

    • Earnings? So you'll add $400 to your taxable income then?

      • +1

Well I ended up with $750 of OPSM gift cards and a $150 Myer one across six Amex cards. I guess I could say I 'earned' $360 in savings or should I say I spent $540 cash for $900 in gift cards and 'earned' nothing?

Whatever the case, I totally loved that Amex Vogue offer and will be looking forward to getting my expensive multi-focal lenses next month during the Family and Friends OPSM offer in late October.

    • What's the vogue promotion?

  • -1

where would I be able to take advantage of this offer to top up opal in sydney area?

    • +1

At participating retailers that do Opal top-ups …

      • +3

Good work, you technically answered the question, while not actually answering it all :D

        • You'll notice that this skill isn't too uncommon here. Just kidding.

  • +1

I have too many opal credits…

Unsure what to use these on now

    • +1

Start looking at the map now to plan your purchases. I typically spend at fruit shops, chemist, butcher, homewares. There are also a number of dentists, physios etc on the list so that might work for you. You will get ideas if you look at the map in your area.

      • Yeah! Will probably have do that

    • You can sell them by unlink the card from your account and give the card numbers/PIN to a buyer to link, then buyer reports lost, balance transfer to his existing card.

      Or fill a refund form.

  • Any dodgy massage parlours on the list who split payment.

    • And my local drug dealer accepts Amex and will split payment if the cards are under your name

      • That might work. Just need to find a parlour that accepts drugs.

    • Don’t forget gift cards.

  • +3

For the Sydney Craft Beer heads, here are my picks:

Frankie’s Pizza, Dove and Olive, Pontoon Bar (craft cans) and Rocks Brewing and Archie Rose in Alexandria.

  • +1

Several local bottle shops will get mine. Easy to find good wine specials eg 2 for $20-25. Net price approx $5-7 per bottle. U can never have too much wine in the cellar.

  • +1

anyone find store for petrol/fuels from shopsmall map? can't see any.. fuel prices is a rip now or even worst soon

  • -6

Waiting for my over 30 AMEX cards, included partner's and all supps cards.

    • Just got our 25+ registered. Don't forget,to register!

      • This promotion will end before I manage to register my 47,584 card/s

  • If I register for this does my supplementary cardholder automatically access the offer too?

    • +1

No, unless they have the same card number. You'll have to register each unique card number you have

      • Just a question for a newbie to small shop - is this done in the form of saving the offer to your card like other campaigns or do you manually enter all the card numbers?

        • +2

You can save the offer to your card using the Amex app; if the supplementary cards aren't linked to an online account, you'll need to register them manually

          • @kerfuffle: Or even by logging in on Amex web account. Not sure if this offer has any cap for maximim number of cards' registered overall though.

  • -8

Not sure, if I am missing the link to register for this deal or add it to my card. Is it required or just shop in the enlisted shops in our region.

  • not long now!
sign up from the 30th Oct.
    Can't wait…..

  • +3

Shop small maps very average as always.

Hopefully THYDZIK whips out some spreadsheets for us 🙏

    • +5

Paging THYDZIK! Paging THYDZIK! Ozbargain members are looking for you.

  • I know its not related to this deal, but can anyone help confirm with me that for other amex offers that state "one or more transactions" I can spend for example half the amount one day online, then the other half in store the next day and still get the credit?

    • As long as the terms and conditions say you can use it online or in store, yes

  • +17

  • Registration will start in 4 hours and 15 mins?

    • -5

      ready .. get set …

12 cards are ready to …. go

      • How do you have 12 cards with 2 accounts? I thought it was max 4 supps per account

        • +1

How do you know he has 2 accounts lol

Anyway to answer your question, there actually is either no limit of supps, or a limit of 99 supp cards.

Most cards however, say "4 free supplementary cards" - which could imply you could get more if you pay - but I don't think it's enforced? At least based on personal experience, it doesn't seem to be.

          • @illumination: I wish this was the case but was told that there isn't a "costing" to supplementary cards because you are not able to add more than 4. This was a wee while ago on the phone with AMEX. Happily proven wrong from someone with more than 4 supplementary cards tied to a primary card holder that isn't a business card holder?

            • @joeiwu:

Happily proven wrong from someone with more than 4 supplementary cards tied to a primary card holder that isn't a business card holder?

Ok me. I've got I think 8 supp cards under one account and maybe 6 under another?

I don't know a good "formula" to ensure this works, but if the assistant over the phone who you're asking to issue you a supp card says you can't get anymore, hang up and call again, because you should be able to. As I said, they just "advertise" it as "4 free supp cards"

              • @illumination: OOO that's awesome to know…! Thanks! I totally did not realise this was possible. Do you pay any extra for supplementary cards after the count of 5?

                • @joeiwu: I wasn't asked to pay extra for any of the ones beyond 5, so no.

                  • @illumination: Thanks for the info, I shall try in the foreseeable future. Maybe the 5 limit is just a manual checking (based on the rep). Either way awesome to know, thanks!

                    • @joeiwu: That's cool.

Side tip: try and get a supplementary card issued in your own name. It's possible but again not particularly easy. If you are persistent about it and really want one in your own name, my suggestion is just hang up and call again if the attendant (correctly) says no. Advantage of this is during deals where you're asked for ID, the card is in your own name anyway.

                      • @illumination: Hmm I didn't even think that is even an option, thanks for the tip. Assuming you are successful with that too. Good work!

                        • +1

                          @joeiwu:

Assuming you are successful with that too

I am. Only worked once for me though haha.

              • @illumination: I wonder everyone complains of call centres and their service, but is it fair to keep pressing agents to please a cranky customer, even terms say 4 free cards?

  • pffft.. misleading - rego doesnt work yet :S
