my fav tuna :) much better than the john west crap (ie. watery)

    • john west crap (ie. watery)

The olive oil one isn't watery.

    • The woolies Yellowfin tuna is nice. Not as good as Sierra, but for $1.30 normal price, it beats the John West crap every time

      • Yellowfin tuna can is only $1 in Aldi recently.

  • Does this Tuna 'spit the dummy' when it's losing?

I only get Sirena, but i tried Aldi’s Tuna the other day and I was not impressed. So watery it was as if I was having tuna juice. Anyone else had the same experience?

    • +1

      mmm…tuna juice

    • Aldi has 2 brands of canned tuna. You bought the cheaper brand which is watery. Buy "Ocean Rise" with yellowfin tuna chunks. Not watery at all :-)!

      • i think yellowfin is big tuna with 2x mercury compared to small skipjack tuna

        • I don't eat tuna everyday. Or lobster, or jerky, or chips :-).

Why is it that some IGAs don't have the catalogue specials?

    • I believe some of the IGA's address Francis and therefore can choose whether they participate with the catalogue specials or not.

    • IGA express don't have the same sales. They're usually located in more convenient locations so may have a different overheads (high rent/longer opening hours)

Sirena is far better than your basic supermarket tins. Tuna is tastier, olive oil is far better. Also seems to be less olive oil and more tuna per can.

Also cheap buying a slab at Costco but can't remember what I last paid.

    • +2

Tastier because Sirena is Yellowfin, others are skipjack.

Coles and Safeway (and Aldi) both have there Yellowfin Tuna section. Its just Sirena repackaged and it cost 1.30

        • ALDI one doesn't taste as good, needs a bit more salt.

It's no where near this cheap even at Costco. One of the traps of shopping at Costco sometimes. It's not always cheap buying in bulk.

      • +1

I got them at costco once 1$ per can. I feel sick every time I have to buy it over 1$ per can.

        • +2

I'm fairly certain it was $1.10 a can for a slab of 24. It was a month ago so my memory is hazy and I don't keep receipts :(

      • Went to Costco in Moorabbin yesterday. $13.80 for a slab of 12. Cheaper.

    Thanks will be stocking up.

we only buy Sirena at work, i made tuna pasta on the weekend with John West ""Skipjack"" i was shocked at how watery it was (olive oil) and how mashed up the tuna was, where as Sirena has nice big chunks and nice olive oil at $1.35 pretty much a bargain, $2.70 normally at Coles

    • Sirena is looking to reduce their reliance on yellowfin? (profanity) that, yellowfins what makes it good.

    • What a great resource. Thank you for posting it.

  • I think I would stock up on this.
I'm going to get a mortgage soon so that would be handy to have it in the cupboard for those coming years.

  • Last time they went 50% of I bought 6 x 12 packs

I will do the same again.

  • I still remember I bought a several trays of these @ $1/can (only a year or so ago)….

  • Literally just came out of an IGA store…

Greenseas Tuna at 99c right now. Yes it's skipjack Tuna.

The best value for money used to be Sol Mare, the tuna was packed full to the brim with no sloshing water/oil.
Unfortunately they appear to have put too much in to be profitable and have since disappeared from supermarket shelves.
Can only get them now in 500G big cans from independent grocers.
