Vegemite Coffee Mug $1 @ Coles - Save $4

240

Found this in the reduced to clear section at Coles Forest Lakes (WA). As it's reduced to clear, it may be store and/or state specific. Thought it worth a mention though. The mugs were displayed across four of five shelves and there were 40+ remaining at FL Coles at around 5pm Tues.

  • Lol. My local coles were giving these out for free the other day at the registers! (edensor park, nsw). All have been given out now though I think. They went pretty fast.

It's pretty sad when a company has to sell the promotion prizes because they couldn't give them away (with the product) ;-)

  • Saw this at Brandon Park Coles yesterday

It would be the closest I'd come to Vegemite!

(apart from making the children toast)

Does ANYONE not in Australia until they were over 5 years old consume the stuff?

    • +10

I came to Australia when I was 5 and only recently (31) started eating it. I quite like it now :-)

At 10 years of age I tried Vegemite for the first time. I thought it would be sweet and nice like Nutella, so I asked for it to be spread extra thick on my bread. The shock and recoil from the taste scarred me for two decades :-)

      • well you are braver than me.

        • Biggest mistake people do is that they lather the stuff on like peanut butter or jam, when Vegemite's quite a strong flavour.

It's great when used as a substitute for any salty substance. A thin layer over a bit of toast with butter or olive oil is scrumptious.

Sounds like parents can use it extra thick for kids as a punishment (instead of hot chili sauce) ;-)

It's nice when you spread it very light.

With 4x as much butter as vegemite.

        • +1

Exactly. Butter + vegimite is nommeh

    • I love Vegemite…
I came to Australia when I was 4, first tried it when I was 6 at my neighbour's house and LOVED it! My mum would make me Vegemite sandwiches everyday for school and yesterday I even had Vegemite in my bagel.
      Weird huh :P

I went off it for a few years in my early twenties because I started eating Promite. Then started missing Vegemite a few years ago so it's back to stay!

    • I was born in Fiji and my Dad (don't know if he was intentionally cruel) imported the stuff for us from Oz. Luckily I survived, loved it and was raised on the stuff (dipped in Milo ofcourse….mmmm yes).

But I think I gave up in my teens… nutella started becoming more popular. Only last week I was at Coles with my two year old and she grabbed the newest edition of Vegemite and I just couldn't bear to buy it for her as even now I can't imagine a child liking it (as I did).

      Wierd I know….

      • Vegemite in Milo? Wth…

Question is, does a Vegemite cup make your coffee extra salty? :-)

    • +7
