      • Yeah, I wasn't sure about classifying Until Dawn…. but its clearly not a Racing, Fighting, Shooter, or Open-World.
I guess its close to the Adventure category, but the multiple choices/events/endings makes it quite different and that's a major feature of RPG Titles, hence my decision. I mean the Telltale Game of Thrones game is quite similar, and many call that an RPG which swayed my answer.

        • Telltale Game an RPG….hmmm that is strange indeed.

  • +1

PS2 and PS3, PSP and Wii

  • +1

    c&c & red alert.

  • +1

The first time I saw a Donkey Kong Game and Watch I knew I was a gamer for life. Took years to convince my parents girls game too.

    • +1

When I had my first console…..I couldn't stop playing until my mum had to hide it.

I had to sneak up like solid snake to retrieve the console.

  • +1

N64 - Zelda Ocarina of Time and Zelda Majoras Mask.

    Nothing else even comes close.

  • +1

Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal on PS2

The multiplayer mode where you attack each other's bases was probably the most fun I had on a console growing up.

That and learning a whole bunch of swear words from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

    • Things have changed much since San Andreas, you can learn a lot more new things from GTA V and Rachet and Clank….. it's like an animation now on PS4.

  • +1

    PS:

    Crash Bandicoot
    Spyro
    Abe's Oddysee
    Gran Turismo
    Need for Speed
    Grand Theft Auto

    Nintendo:

    Legend of Zelda
    Pokemon

  • +1

    Old old school- Wizball (c64)
    Old school- Duck Tales (NES)
Sort of old school- Illusion of Gaia (SNES)
Getting more modern- Half-Life 2 (PC)
Much more modern now- Resident Evil 4 (GC/Wii)
Last fantastic games I've played- The Last of Us (P3) and Wolfenstein (xb360) and Fallout 3

Special shout out to Descent Freespace 1 and 2. Super old games, but no-one has managed to better the space genre.

    • Descent Freespace….wow the memories. Love shooters!

  • +1

Favourite arcade would be Thunderblade, followed by Afterburner II. I've got two cabs with Streetfighter II CE. Also got Marvel vs Capcom. Nearly bought Thunderblade and sega rally but they are huge and condition was poor.

    On console FFVII, Zelda, 007.

On PC Counterstrike, Red Alert, Mortal Kombat.

    • +1

I have two arcade machines at home…they are taking a lot of space indeed my SNES mini plays all the arcade games.

      • Yeah I have five atm. One is 4 player. A couple will probably be turned into mame cabs. I can't bring myself to sell them.

  • +1

Last of Us on PS4. Does that I’m really old or young?

    • +2

      It's all in the mind.

    • +1

Yeah I don't get it when I see some of these guys mentioning C64 and Atari games, and then PS4 / Switch games.
That's a lot of decades of gaming. I'm really struggling to stay interested (but trying).

  • House of the Dead I & II (Arcade)
    Resident Evil I - III
    Silent Hill I - III
    FF7, X
    Wonderboy Series
    Bubble Bobble

    • +1

I have got the house of the dead 1 for my saturn with the gun.

Pretty sure i had the typing of the dead for dreamcast….its somewhere

  • +1

    Bubsy 3D

    In order:

Original Xbox: Halo C.E, Brute Force, Midtown Madness, Halo 2, Midnight club 3, NFS UG 1/2.

PS2: Ratchet and clank series. I played those so much.

  • +1

My first console was an Intellivision
    After that, I had a C64
After that, it has been a few Sega, and each model of the Xbox and PlayStation.

  • +2

    Suikoden

    • +1

Ah the great Genso Suikoden…..love the 1st one. Not sure if its the first jrpg to have multi attack.

The ost is in my juke box. Lovely soundtrack.

    • Suikoden V

  • Halo CE, SSX Tricky, TimeSplitters something

    • Timespliters….i like both of the games.

      Ssx tricky is fun.

    • Loved ssx tricky it had great replay value and good split screen 2 player.

  • +1

Amiga 360(i think) - North vs South
    NES - duck hunter
    SNES - Super Mario World
    Gameboy - Pokemon Red
    N64 - Goldeneye
PC - Counterstrike 1.5/1.6. Age of Empires 2. Starcraft 2
    XBox 360 - Halo 3

    • I still have all my starcrafts.

      • North vs South - had completed forgotten about this one … great game!

  • +1

    PC:

Half-Life 2. That's when I built my first PC and was in awe of the graphics and physics.

Time Commando. First game I completed in a day.

    Console

    N64:
That's my childhood right there. Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Mario Kart give me such warm memories.

    PS2:

GTA 2. Played so much of that.

    • Half life….still not sure why there isnt a new release. The story is still hanging.

  • +1

Dreamcast is probably the console I have most fond memories of. With Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, Shenmue, MvC2 to name a few. It invokes teenage year memories for me, much like the N64.

For game, Deus Ex. The first time playing through and understanding different approaches and the impact each decision has. It also allowed me to imagine this wider world, outside of the game. It got me into the cyberpunk genre. DXIW was a disappointment and the newer games were ok, nothing will compare with the original game.

    • You will love cyberpunk 2099….the gameplay looks amazing

      • Definitely can't wait. Watched the gameplay stream and it was amazing.

  • +2

Spent countless hours on Fifa99 on PS1.

Making, editing teams, players, and competitions. Family wasn't the wealthiest by any stretch of the imagination so had the game for years. Made transfers each day to reflect the latest team transfers… until could scoop together enough cash to buy a second hand memory card. Great memories.

    • You must be a pro in fifa 99..

When I was a teen I skip lunch just to save money to buy games….outcome wasnt good as I am a few inches shorter than my friends.

  • +1

SNES —> Secret of Mana and Super Mario World. So many happy memories of playing with my siblings.

Sega Saturn (don't shoot me) —> Nights Into Dreams. Loved that game so so so so much, haven't played anything like it since.

Old PC (286) - Toyota Celica GT Rally and Bionic Commando.

Arcade - DDR. Used to shred it but was always too shy to enter comps!

    • +1

Night into dreams is a unique game. There is a bundle comes with an analog stick other that I still have some of the ost in my jukebox :) and its in my xbox digital base.

Secret of mana can be play 3 players with multitap.

Still have my ahem DDR mat for Playstation.

      • I got rid of mine a couple of years ago and still regret it. I wish they'd reboot that game, I've never been that fit in my life!

        • Hmmm they might one day but unfortunately konami game directions are focus into mobile gaming. They even got rid of their best game producer Hideo Kojima.

        • @luffyex2010: That explains a lot, I always wondered what happened there, especially since it was such a massive hit of a game. Sometimes I find the machine in an arcade and have a go but the screens are always CRT and barely watchable now.

  • +1

As a kid, my most memorable game was on the Megadrive - Mortal Kombat 2. I managed to remember every fatality for every character, getting to the Noob Saibot stage, spent most of my school afternoon/evenings playing it instead of playing outside. If my kids today did that i'd throw the thing in the pool.

At high school it was Tekken 2/3 on playstation, when I was at uni probably the NBA 2k series (on xbox). Bought a PS4 and NBA 2k18 recently and I think i've grown out of gaming now.

  • +1

Most memorable single player game for me would be Little Big Adventure 2 AKA Twinsen's Odyssey I picked up the game from Coles yes they sold PC computer games once upon a time!

    • That is interesting.

  • +1

Dynasty Warriors 3 - one of my very first game on Ps2 back in 2003.

    • I like the hero with the spear…

Played the samurai warriors, the cross over version . Koei is popular with historical game characters…gemfire was my first koei game thats b4 the merge with sexy tecmo characters..

  • +1

    C64
    Last Ninja series
    Defender of the Crown
    Civilisation
    (Nod to Street Rod above)

    PS1
    Resident Evil 2
    Bust a Groove
    Gran Turismo

    • +1

      Re2 remake on ps4 early 2019!

  • +1

Gameboy Colour - Traveled around Australia as a young kid and playing Pokemon Red non-stop kept me quiet and made me a Pokemon fan for life

    GBC: Pokemon Red
PS1: Crash Bandicoot games; CTR especially
    PS2: Kaido Battle, Gran Turismo
    X-Box: Halo
    PC: Morrowind, CoD2, CoD4

I know you said consoles but when I began getting in to PC games I rapidly found out about eSports and competitions and dedicated a lot of my high school years to it. I wrote esports magazines about Cybergamer and even wrote an essay in year 9 (2009) about eSports! I played CoD4 almost religiously and played in some decently high leagues. Eventually I moved on and dedicated a lot of time to StarCraft 2 and still follow it to this day, albeit no longer involved in the 'scene'.

I met a lot of my best mates through StarCraft and gaming, I find it really interesting how much games taught me as a kid looking back. Playing MMOs like Runescape and Maple Story from 10 teaches a child very quickly how basic economy works, the value of making work efficient as possible (leveling) and socializing.

  • +1

For me First pokemon games(Image of Celadon city in green stands out), Super Mario Bros 3., Metal slug 3, those classic games on DOS (think jazz bunny, Aladdin, lion king). Too classic games to name, games nowadays aren't as memorable for me.

    • Aladdin snes vs genesis.

I prefer the genesis one from Disney.

Videogames today, alot of the games focus on killing, zombie and violence. Thats what sells or the demand today.

      • Loved Aladdin SNES!

  • +1

N64 was probably the best console (for there time!) i owned

    Dreamcast was the most underrated

If you are talking about games on consoles that where memorable (this list could go forever especially if you added PC)

    Shenmue - Dreamcast
    Kingdom Hearts - PS2
    Vice City - PS2
    Mario Bro 3 - SNES
    Mario Kart - N64
    Lylat Wars- N64
    Sonic Adventure - Dreamcast
    Golden Eye - N64
Command & Conquer N64 (but also PC)
    GTA 5 - PS4
    FFX - PS2

    • …c&c and starcraft n64, they really push the console limit.

  • +1

  • +1

Nintendo 64, my first console and most memorable by a mile.

  • +1

    PC:

Age Of Empires 1 and 2
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 (have wasted over 2000 hours combined in these) .
    World of Tanks

    PS2:
    Jak & Daxter
    Gran Turismo 3 & 4
    Final Fantasy X

    PS3:
Gran Turismo 5 (6 was kind of trash)
    Dark Souls
    Persona 5 (still playing this)

    Wii-U
    Super Smash Bros.

    GAMEBOY/(3)DS
basically every Pokémon game from red and blue to OR/AS.

    • +1

Left 4 dead is a fun and crazy zombie horde game….

      Persona v….me2

  • +1

    C64
D&D Gold Box Games (Pool of Radiance, etc)

    PC gaming:
    Wing Commander Series

    vectrex

  • +1

    Xbox - Kotor / Kotor 2

PC - Deus ex, Warcraft 1-3, Red alert 1, Magic Carpet, Tie fighter/Xwing, BF 2142 (Such an underated game at the time, titan mode was awesome fun)

    Pc/xbox - Morrowind, dragon age 1

    PLaystation, Everybodies gold 2, RDR.

So many games in the past had really well written stories. These days about the best I can think of late are witcher 3 and horizon zero dawn.

    • It's the creativity and passion I guess thats why alot of games, good games are being remade.

But graphics are surely getting better :)

  • +1

metal gear solid on the playstation 1….

    • Everybody loves cardboard snake

  • +1

Soul Blazer Trilogy - the best being Terranigma then Illusion of Gaia then soul blazer

    Suikoden 1 and 2

    Silent hill series

    • Silent Hill 1 is the scariest….puzzle is hard like hell.

  • +1

PC: Street Rod 1, Stunts, Jones in the fast lane, more recently Battlefield 2/3

Stopped gaming apart from on the phone: Marvel contest of Champions, Boxing Star

    • Marvel contest of champions is addictive.

But retired too repetitive but still playing plants vs zombie 2

  • +1

These were my biggest time-sinks in each period of my life. Didn't have as many options when I was younger so I ended up replaying the games I had a lot of times.
    Pokemon Silver
    Pokemon Sapphire
    Advance Wars I and II
    Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
    Final Fantasy 7
    Fire Emblem 7
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance + Radiant Dawn (only played these once but I liked the story the best out of the FE franchise)
    Gunbound
    Orkfia / Alliances At War
CoD Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops
Starcraft 2 and Fate Grand Order

    @OP
Were you playing the Japanese versions blind or you understood Japanese?

    • Sukoshi dake….

      You should try FF tactics.

  • +1

I am so glad some did a post like this! Pokemon Silver started my love of all things Pokemon - Pokemon stadium 2 was the bomb!

I also really love the Infamous games - not sure why. Yes I know they're all relatively the same story line but for some reason I love playing them. And also Fallout! I am pumped for the new one coming out in November!

We played a game in primary school on computers and I have been trying my hardest to find it ever since. It was where you would go into a haunted house and have to kill the ghosts by shining a flashlight on them - does anyone else remember this? Would have been from the late 90s early 2000s

    • Hmmm cant be Luigi mansion, fatal frame series. I dont play horror games that much….cant sleep at night lol.

      • It wasn't scary at all! It was like a 2D cartoon and we used to play it all the time on the school computers haha memories!

  • +1

Started with PC and then moved on to Playstation. Surprised nobody mentioned some of the games that I was thinking of….

    PC:
    Prince of Persia
    Warcraft 1 and 2
Starcraft Original and Broodwar (Starcraft 2 is shit)
    Doom
    Gobliiins
    Lemmings
Summer Games II (best olympic game ever)

  • Jetpac on Sinclair Spectrum 48k

    Lemmings on Amiga 500

    • +1

      I love lemmings 2 PC

  • On the Amiga,

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders
    The Great Giana Sisters
    Lemmings

    On PC, AoE
    That's about 20 years there.

    I miss those days.

    • I am pretty sure they remade the Giana Sisters game on Ps4/xbox.

  • +1

Games that stood out for me:

    Total Annihilation!
    Age of empires 2
    Empire Earth
    HL2

    Mass effect 1,2
    GTA Vice City
    Halo 3/Reach

    • +2

Total annihilation is one of the best rts

      • Aye man. Probably just a healthy dose of nostalgia, but nothing draws me in quite the way TA does.

To add to my list of games:

        GTA 4,5
        Zelda BOTW
        Doom (new one, 2016?)

  • my first playstation games are

    It was a glorious day

Not sure why I play Myst….maybe its one of the few cd rom pc game I had along with 7 guests or something like that.

    Forgot…loom cd

  • +1

Nothing's quite like King of Fighters on a proper SNK Neo Geo at home. Probably the closest thing ever to a real arcade.

    • That was an expensive console, my friend had the neogeo cd console boy it took forever to load.
