  • Not a big fan of these.. Always drop off line, and really questioning these 1080, same quailty as my swan 720p camera

Resolution limits picture quality, it doesn't dictate it.

How does this compare to the Dafang?

    • +1

These are better. Have both and this is faster and more reliable

      • Thanks. Are the instructions (verbal from the camera, and written) in Chinese or English?

        • +1

I think it depends if you use a iphone or android. Android the voice commands are in chinese, but the app is mostly english.

    • Dafang has dafang-hacks. Don’t think this can be hacked ….

      • Can the Dafang still work outside China?

        • +1

Wasn’t that just an issue for the Xiaofangs?

I’ve got a couple earlier Xiaofangs and a Dafang from earlier this year - all worked with the Xiaomi software, but I bought them wth the intention running the hacked firmware anyway.

        • @FrontBottom:

The region locked Xiaofangs (MAC address 34 and above) now work in the latest Mi Home app and with updated firmware too. I have a Dafang but haven't even tested it lol.

      • hey is the dafang setup process similar to xiaofang? any hardware limitations?

also does it still retain the auto pan and detection follow feature?

        • @furythree - I'm not much use there as I didn't even really try the Dafang on the Mi Home app and just loaded the Dafang Hacks (so not sure on what the original feature was). Dafang Hacks does have a motion tracing feature though and it does seem to work….

    • You'll get lynched coming here saying that

    • Depending on people, I find them useful with the price.

  • I have four of these and they work really well. I bought a dlink a couple of months ago from officeworks for about $150. Now that sucked. Had to return it.

  • Can these be used as baby/child monitors?

    • If internet broadcasting your child is not a problem for you.

      • what makes you say this?

      • I'd second 7jf's concerns. There's enough sickos out there that I wouldn't take the risk of my kids being visible on the web or someone being able to watch your routines. It's more expensive, but I went with stand alone local cameras from infasecure. Each to their own though.
These xiaomi cameras have their place, so long as you can lock them down.
Has anyone gotten these running with home assistant?

        • are you saying these Xiaomi cameras are more susceptible to being compromised ?

        • @ayad: all cameras connected to the web are susceptible to being compromised. A local camera can only be compromised by a neighbour because the signal usually only travels 50m or so.
There's pros and cons of each.

        • @newdad: thanks for that.

        • @ayad:
Any of these cheap IP cams are high risk been hacked.

        • @7jf: are there any measure i should take or more secure alternatives i can purchase? (max 150)

  • PoE?

I guess it depends on how much you care about who is watching you.
I think at the moment you should work from the assumption that someone "may" be watching you.

The again i don't think that my life is so interesting to the average hacker. On the other hand the camera's could be used as a gateway into your network.
I think there are people who run webcams as POE and on a seperate VLAN to the rest of their network so there is a separation of church and state.

  • Has anyone had any success with this and NAS?

    • Yes. Works very well with my synology nas

      • thanks good to know. cheers
