  • Doesn't look like it's HDR capable…I guess for the price we can't complain much but it's a nice feature to have.

  • Their oldest model of current 4K TVs on offer

    • +1

Err, I think these JU8000 4K TVs are all brand new models. They only this week released pricing on the 43", 55" and 65" models - they're all still in pre-order stage. The 50" of the same model number went on the market a few months ago.

      • Pre-Order yes. But they're still series 8 models. Probably been sitting in warehouse waiting to be re-branded as a Kogan

        • So they are re branded from which TV?

        • @Boertjie:

          Panel Manufacturer: AUO

Not sure what brand that is. But, from what I can tell, it's a panel they have obtained and will put in their software based on how many 'pre-orders' they get

          @Danstar:

          Thanks very much :-)

      • I'm not sure what to make of the pre-order thing. For instance, I was having a look at Chest Freezers and found this, which is also in pre-order status shipping on the 16th:

        https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-142l-chest-freezer-kogan/

Why would anyone need to pre-order a chest freezer?

        • +2

Waiting to see how many they need to order based on how much get "pre-ordered"

Pre-order doesn't necessarily mean a new model waiting to be released with Kogan.

not being a smart tv is a deal breaker for me :-(

Grab a Mi Box to make it smart?

    • +1

      Get a TV box

Trust me, you don't want a budget TV brand's SMART UI.

Stick with a Roku, or Mi Box, or Raspberry Pi, or Chromecast.

      • Thanks, i actually never thought about this. My current TV is a 10 year old plasma. Guess I could get a better non smart tv and look at something like Roku.

        • Or just get one of those boxes for your old plasma.

          @pizzaguy:

its really old - id like some high def gaming.

@pitufon: Might be good time to buy - heaps of TVs today.

      • Why not?

I like waiting 20 seconds for a menu change and having features turned on automatically that can't be turned off.

      • +1

        Agreed. Or an Nvidia Shield

      • +1

A truer thing you couldn’t have said.

How is it that after so many years of smart TVs they’re still so crap?

      • For a screen they do the job. My 2nd kogan is a series 9 43" 4k for the bedroom. Sound is alright but the interface is disgustingly terrible. It's slow. Most android apps don't display properly. Netflix app is 90% unusable. But the stupidest thing is the guide feature only shows tv guide for the current selected channel at a time. You set up your town for channel listing but to see what is on tv you literally have to channel surf at snail pace. I have to use my phone to look up tv guide. Worst interface ever and the series numbers are marketing wank.

    are these wall mountable?

    • +1

      yes.

  • How are people finding these cheap units? I really want an OLED but I'm probably never going to be able to afford one so might conceder one of these if they are worth it.

    • I have a 4K Kogan and think it's great. I highly recommend you consider one

    • I own a series 8 55inch and have for 8 months. The colours lack punch and not bright. I bought it at the time for $500 but regret the purchase. In hindsight I would have bought a 1080p full HD quality panel from Samsung or Sony as I can't get past the lack of saturation in colour and brightness.

      • So you can't adjust the saturation up, or it still looks bad when you do?

        • +1

You can. I bought the 55" 4K Curved one and found someone on whirlpool who made a post in regards to some settings to change that improve the picture quality.

    • I don’t own this TV but I own other Kogan and similar no-name TVs.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the inbuilt speakers are crap. You will NEED a sound bar or surround sound system. You won’t want it - you will NEED it.

As far as the picture goes, it’ll be ok - not like an LG or Sony, and certainly not like an OLED, but acceptable and quite watchable. Don’t expect to be “wowed”.

  • Thoughts on this TV that has an LG panel
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-58-smart-hdr-4k-led-tv-se…

  • We had a 1080p Kogan TV at work that lasted about a year. It was o roughly 24/7 though… Actually surprised it lasted that long.

  • 60hz refresh?

    Won't that = motion blur?

I know it's only $699, but can anyone who has this TV give their opinion on this?

    Cheers
