Credit Card (Specifically for Overseas Transactions) with No Annual Fee + Points on Purchase

Just wondering whether such a card exists?

I was going to use Citibank Plus Account + 28 Degrees combination for my upcoming travel, but realised that neither would earn reward points.

cheers

Ha. I just received an email from Citibank a few minutes ago regarding this offer.

      • this one?

        Hi xxxx

Don't you love it when you get something extra without extra effort? Pair your existing Citi Signature Card with a Linked Diners Club Card# and you'll earn 2 Citi reward Points per dollar on Eligible Transactions made with your Linked Diners Club Card, uncapped^. This means you can earn Points faster without changing your spending.

        You can enjoy:
2 for 1 points Get 2 Citi reward Points per dollar on Eligible Transactions, no matter where you spend
        No international transaction fees
Skip the fees when paying overseas

        • Yup.

        • any idea if they do a separate credit check for the card?

        • @dasher86: im not banker but i dont think so. you dont get increased credit limit i believe so nothing else to check

    • No annual fee version was just the original introductory offer if I'm not mistaken, and no longer offered for new cards?

      • correct. i got mine like 8 years ago or more, no AF for life, with cheque to self balance tranfer.
since then never know anyone who get the same offer.

    • doesn't citibank charges for FC transactions on their CC?

    • Are the citibank FX rates usually better, worse or same with Mastercard FX rates?

I just did a quick comparison on USD — citi is selling at 0.699 vs. mastercard at 0.710…

I use ING for Cash withdrawals and ANZ rewards travel adventures for o/s purchases.

Though the ANZ card has an annual fee, it pays for itself just with the x2 lounge passes + domestic return flight.
Furthermore, it offers travel insurance* and the 28 Degrees card doesn't. Great if your flights are in a currency other than AUD, or in AUD but processed offshore.
You get 1.5 ANZ points per $1 (for the first $2000/mo) and it's easily converted to 0.75 velocity points (for even ~1 velocity pt when there are offers)

With the other cards that have rewards and foreign fee waiver, I couldn't find a way to justify the annual fee.
The next card I may be interested in is the Bankwest More World Mastercard (not on the OzB list as of 13:25, 05/09/2018). The annual fee is $270 but comes with unlimited LoungeKey lounge access for you and unlimited guests(individual lounge policies would be different). Points are not quite attractive though.

Use the Citibank Plus card, that's what I do for travel.

You could use an AMEX card like Qantas Discovery which is zero annual fee but you can earn QFF points. You will pay overseas transaction fees though.

Assuming you don't want to pay international transaction fees, so use the Citibank Plus.

    • But you don't earn points on Citibank Plus correct ?

Coles Rewards Mastercard. Flybuys points accumulate quickly (2 points per $1) and the Flybuys barcode is on the back of the credit card for an extra point at Coles, Target, Kmart, etc. We have ours set to a $10 automatic discount at Coles when we reach 2000 Flybuys points (conversion rate of 1%-1.5%).

    Annual fee is $99.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't read the no annual fee part!

    • A mere nothing, when compared to ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures $225 and Bankwest More World Mastercard $270, as suggested by FirstWizard.

      • A mere nothing

        Annual fee or conversion rate?

        • Coles card is a good suggestion. Paying $99 is not a lot comparing to having to pay $275-$270, where you have to avail yourself of the lounge passes etc to make it worth while.

        • @Baysew: 👍🏻

        • @Baysew:
True, think it depends on individual circumstances. As I travel often, the free flight (in 2017 SYD-HBA ~$300, 2018 SYD-CNS ~$350) pays my annual fee of $225 in full and more, plus the value of points are about 3cts/point for flight bookings.

If I get the Coles card, it will be out of pocket $99 for me as I don't have a way to recover it.

However, if you don't travel, then the above option will not be the best fit.
