Ive been to 2 stores and they refuse to match kogan, eglobal australia and several other stores.
Given the number of upvotes I think this warrants a discussion. Who are they actually price matching???

Have you read the terms?
https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be…
Yes they dropped the 'identical warranties' clause, BUT it still says identical stocked item.

Correct, its not identical stocked aka not australian stock and has different SKU numbers, so NOT equal, so they won't price match.
Why don't you just buy from kogan, eglobal australia and several other stores then as they are clearly cheaper?
But OW are unlikely to ever stock Hong Kong stock of phones, wouldn't this fact greatly reduce the benefits of the new price match policy?
OW has never matched 'grey imports', which are ALWAYS cheaper than a local supplied version of the product.
OW policy has always been to match identical stocked items. So as they sell the Australian version of the Samsung S9, and THEIR policy is to match a identical stocked item, its up to YOU to match it with a seller of a Australian S9, not them to match/stock a 'grey' import from HK the OP found.
Officeworks have been price matching grey imports from Kogan and some others. See the thread linked to by OP.
@tranter: Yes seen it, but the policy doesn't state it will match grey imports, as per my first post, it just removed the 'identical warranties' clause, BUT it still says identical stocked item. aka same SKU etc.
Some people 'assume' this means they match grey imports now, clearly they don't.
Can you point out the bit that says it matches GREY imports? I don't see anyone in that thread being sucessful for a price match.
Identical stocked item doesn't mean a grey import.
Nowhere does it say that they don't price match grey imports. A lot of websites don't list the full product number or SKU. In my experience with price matching at Officeworks they aren't too anal about that as long as the model number is the same.
Fifth page of comments somebody price matched a Note 9 at Becextech. There are others as well.
Nowhere does it say that they don't price match grey imports
and nowhere does it say they will, it DOES say identical stocked item though.
as long as the model number is the same
SKU and model number are pretty much the same thing ;)
Fifth page of comments somebody price
haha ok, I gave up reading a few pages of no matches. But sure, the odd price match slip gets through officeworks from time to time even before removing 'identical warranties' clause, which is all thats changed recently.
Just read the only person who priced matched in that thread and it was a 'whoops' price match as it was a dual sim phone priced matched, which means it wasn't identical products so shouldn't have been price matched in the first place.
The policy hasn't changed, just some random person made a claim on the internet it has.
SKU/product number and model number are not the same thing.
A quick look in comments shows there are 2x price matches at Kogan, 1 at Shoppingsquare, 1 at Becextech. There could be more.
The policy has changed, confirmed by 2-3 Officeworks employees.

I see more rejected than you list approved

and yet here we are, with a post saying they won't price match……
I'm not surprised, it's better to do price matches over the phone than in-store be it grey item or not.
Call centre staff are better trained and more up to date with things.
Which phones did you try and price match?
S9 plus and s8
I think they ought to just withdraw the offer. It's a farce. How often are you going to find an Australian designated electrical product sold to Australia from overseas?

The offer or price match isn't to match overseas stores, its to match identical stocked items sold by other Australian retailers.
The impression and rhetoric on the 1800 upvotes OW post said otherwise

The up vote count on ozbargain means nothing in the real world
I am trying to highlight the post was misleading and untrue.

Oh good for you. So which bit was untrue?
The offer of price match isn't to match overseas stores, its to match identical stocked items sold by other Australian retailers.
As per the thread you say is true, people have to match identical stocked items that are located in Australia for sale. So my statement is fully true.
imports are knocked back like this guy
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/399699?page=3#comment-6314…
and even the officeworks staff says

and this

So again, what was untrue?

Geez you're kinda wrong and don't want to admit it.
It will take time for this to be communicated to every employee at every store. Call 1300OFFICE and do a click and collect.
