Just bought this monitor after doing a lot of research. I have an 8GB Radeon Rx580 GPU. Code finishes tonight!

I approached some sellers on the classified section (of Ozbargain) to get a further 9% off by using discounted eBay coupon…. so all up this monitor cost around $325 out of pocket for me

It’s a beast at 1ms and 240hz, supports free sync at that’s level too. One of the fastest monitors on the market - fastest freesync I think.

Great, in depth review here:

And

Not 2K of course, but there are no 2K (QHD) at 240hz on the market anyway atm. I can’t run 240fps on 2K anyway. Screen size is perfect too for FPS gaming, bigger is NOT better for FPS games, if you want speed that is (all the pros have 1080p 240Hz around 25” - bigger than this and you’ll be slower due to eye moment, even a wide screen is not better according to pros [they hack their screens to ‘streach’ a wider image], it’s the reason their X axis sensitivity is lower than their y axis too btw….)

Will be hard to see the 240Hz benefits in most situations, but I decided on 240hz over 144hz as when I build in Fortnite, I move my mouse quickly and the screen goes blurry. When moving the mouse fast, 240hz really shines. Weakpoint of this monitor is colour reproduction and viewing angles… the latter I think is silly as it doesn’t matter but I guess if the former is important to you, QHD or 4K will be too, not speed, atm, you can’t have both speed and high def/high colour.

      Why do you say that?

Can you provide evidence for your claim? I'd like to know more.

From my research, Gsync is more consistent, as Nvidia have control over the quality. Freesync when it came out was worse, as it hard a narrow FPS in which it worked, but now it’s Improved. For FreeSync, it’s free to implement, but not controlled by AMD so the quality may depends on the monitor manufacturer, better manufacturer better freesync.

I agree - which is why Freesync is better that G-sync in this case.

AOC sell this Freesync model (AG251FZ) and they also sell a G-sync model (AG251FG). They are both exactly the same, except the Freesync has more display port options (as g-sync only supports HDMI and Display port). The other difference is price - the g sync model costs about 60% more. That price difference is for NVidea's licensing - the hardware is almost exactly the same, just a different interface for the adaptive sync. They behave exactly the same.

So when you buy a g-sync monitor, you know that you're going to get a good adaptive sync. But if it's the same mode with freesync, it's generally just as good - you just don't need to pay as much for it.

And all that aside, you should really be buying the monitor for your card. You can get the best g-sync monitor in the world, but it won't do anything if you have an AMD card, and the same goes for freesync and NVidia cards.

Computer Alliance don't sell the g-sync model, so as an example, look at the AG241QX and the AG241QG they do sell. Same monitor, same panel, the g-sync has fewer plugs, and costs $200 more.

    they hack their screens

I'm not sure increasing field of view qualifies as hacking …

      If I don’t understand it, it’s a ‘hack’ hahah

  • I wanted this monitor myself, it was on the maybe list. I settled for a 144hz LG 34" ultrawide curved screen as I previously had a LG 60hz 34" ultrawide. Just stayed in my comfy zone.

  • 240 fps is pretty dam hard to achieve unless top end PC tho, where are the rtx 2080 deals kappa

    • just turn down setting

Funny you should say that, because the maker of most of these panels, AU Optronics, are currently distributing the next generation of 240hz TN panel, which have much improved colour reproduction and viewing angles. There's also a 1440p 240hz panel to go alongside it. MSI are releasing their models in the next month or so.

On the 1080p models, apparently the response time is down to 0.5ms on overdrive (you're also quoting the overdrive figure there).

Not great news for a bargain website, but for those holding out for a better sweet spot in terms of fast motion and image quality, it's going to jump up a bit over the next 6 months with these new panels and things like miniLED (better backlighting basically). Eventually it will be MicroLED.

    • and buy the panel and controller from china directly DIY monitor way cheaper and better.

  • Current versions of 240hz all use the same Optronics panel and the AMD freesync ones have issues with input lag(despite having the highest refresh on the market) Prices have gone down compared to launch so it might be worth purchasing but Im anticipating the next gen while hanging onto 144hz for now.

These probably have better resale value ob gumtree because "muh 240hz" and laymen wont have heard about the input lag issue.
