Audio-Technica M50X. Insanely good headphones that you can pick up for about $150.
The most recommended cans under 200. Mkbhd loves them. Don’t listen blindly though as there is a sharp divide on these cans: you either really hate them or you really love them.
Headphones should be treated like buying new shoes. Your shoe number might not translate well to the shoe you are looking to buy. With headphones, always test them out if you can. You might hate the clamping force, sound signature and how your large ears touch the drivers.
Agreed. After hours of research I ended up getting the M50X and im not a fan of their signature sound. The quality is superb but just not the sound I like. I prefer my $40 KZ ZS5 earbuds over these
I've tried quite a few AT's and pretty much hated them all, that doesn't mean they're bad it just means they aren't for me.
Moral of the story - try before you buy or blindly listen to someone elses advice.
Looks like there’s an Addicted to Audio store in Perth. Pop over there and you should be able to try out some cans. Also remember to bring a dac/amp with you
If you hate the M50xs (but are looking at a similar or lower price bracket), the M40x's may be your cup of tea, as IIRC/AFAIK they're more neutral and not drowning in muddy bass.
philips shp9500s
Shure SE846 or Beyerdynamic DT880 (600 ohm).
Also have a set of Beyerdynamic DT770 (250 Ohm) which I recommend if you want great <$200 headphones for music or gaming.
Bose QC35 II by a long shot simply because they are extremely comfortable and hence are used more than any other of my headphones and second noise cancellation which has his uncanny ability to silence obnoxious commuters speaking loudly on their phones like no one is listening.
All wireless - Sony MDR-1RBT everyday use, QC 35 II for travel and Logitech Artemis Spectrum G933 for gaming.
Cant fault any of them, I do miss the ATH-M50's sound (broke it ages ago)
Xiaomi neckband Bluetooth, 60 aud
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro Limited Edition, Sennheiser Urbanite XL, Philips SHP9500 and some others
QC25.
I don't have to worry for any dead internal battery.
ATH-AD900.
They're about 16 years old, now, and going strong.
Philip Sh9500 with vmoda for computer
Philip x2
Pxc550
Jaybirds freedom f5
After experiencing open cans I can't see to enjoy close back as much ….I can't see to wear close back for more than a few hours while I can wear my Phillips with mow all day, but kinda have switch to pxc550 when I'm not alone or outside sadly…
Mow Bluetooth receiver is great usage for me because essential all headphones has 3.5 mm I can just hot swap using velcro as I have some few Chinese like takstar pro82.
Sony 1000XM2. Don't go anywhere without these (except the loo).
Sony MDR1RNCMK2. Could never stop loving the design and comfort apat from the noise cancelling.
ATH M50x (Gray) and KZ ZS5 with Silver Cable
Prefer the soundstage of the ZS5 compared to the ATH tbh.
Bang & Olufsen H4 is all i use. good enough for all types of usage and comes with carry bag
My preference is mids and highs with emphasis in female vocals. In order of preferences.
headphones
Winner : Hifiman HE-500
Beyerdynamic T70p / Shure 1440 / AKG 712 / Grado SR80i / Sennheiser GAME zero / ATH-M50 (still the worst headphones I used. very muddy)
IEMs
DUNU DN-2000 (soon to be replaced by campfire andromeda) / Shure 535 / Taotronics BH-10
DAP
AK Jr / iBasso DX90 / Fiio X5 3rd gen
DAC
Aune T1se + Genalex Gold Lion / Schiit Stack
Edit - I wrote too much for a "best", but i got excited lol.
What's your winner for IEMs?
For my type of music, defo the dunu dn-2000. for the money I paid, nothing came close. Basically I never looked for anything else since owning it and I upgrade a lot. I listen to a lot of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and the likes so forward mids are a plus.
Occasionally I would listen to heavy metal and I'll swap it out for the shure535 red edition. That one has a punchier bass and the red edition solves the treble roll off.
For best budget IEMs, my friends vouch for the XiaoMi Pistons.
Sennheiser HD280 Pro
Best would be HD6xx, probably favourite, too. This is followed closely by HD598 and the legendary Koss PortaPro
good old Koss PortaPro my first decent pair such good value
Sennheiser HD25's best headphones I've owned, super light, user replaceable parts and great sound
Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 2. Absolutely amazing. Way better than the QC35 II's however slightly more expensive.
Completely agree.
Have owned both and whilst the noise cancellation is slightly better on the QC35, the Momentum 2.0's sound soooo much better to my ears.
But people need to be wary of which model they buy. Sennheiser have two models of the Momentum's and they look almost identical. By far the best one is the one with the active noise cancellation (the cheaper model is only passive noise cancellation).
The great thing with the Momentum's is that they can be used wired when you really want high fidelity (and you can power up the noise cancellation or not), but even wireless via Bluetooth the sound is very respectable.
I'm actually really surprised these weren't listed earlier in all these posts. 3rd page in is disrespectful to the Momentum's :).

Haven’t heard these cans for ages. I have a pair but the ear cups have worn out. Have you dealt with wear and tear? Would love to find out how

Yet another purchase I can thank ozbargain for!
Audio-Technica ATH-M50X
I've been rocking the Sennheiser HD6XX as well as the Hifiman HE4xx
Superlux 668B. Has a breakaway cable so even having yanked on the cord heaps of times they still work.
Best I have would be the HD800.
Followed very closely by the Audeze LCD2.2F.
B&O H6 gen 2
At home - Sennheiser HD600.
In the office - Bose QC35.
If I had to choose one, HD600 hands down.
I wished I had the guts to ignore my boss with ANC
I don't. By office I mean a bit about 1h commute + approx. 1h listening during the day + time on calls (always better than built in phone mic)
What kind of job do you have where you're allowed to just listen to headphones and zone out? Or is it more the culture of the place that is accepting of that kind of thing?
Does it matter? I believe most kind of office work would allow you slot for listening, of course not for 8h straight. Imagine 30 mins email slot, or while preparing reports, etc. Almost always there's a slot for that, I think
I was just curious, but okay…

sennheiser momentum, the original version.
No idea how the momentum 2.0 have a RRP of $500 here
Senn pulled that number out of their ass
I have a pair of Sennheiser PC 363Ds, which I'm fairly certain have the same drivers as the HD 598.
I prize my Yamaha EPH-100 above them though for listening to music, but they're IEMs. Absolute joy listening to music with them though.
These little Yamahas are my fav IEMs, unfortunately discontinued now :/
I've looked recently and have seen that you can purchase them online, the Yamaha US site seems to have them.
Yamaha have come out with the EPH-200 late last year as well, but supposedly the sound signature is slightly different.
thanks - seems they've come up with a new price as well… $279usd… gosh
I own way too many. I tend to buy cheaper ones and like changing between them, depending on what mood I am in.
I really don't get the whole Bose QC hype. Some of my friends have them and, and I think you can get better sound at 1/4 of the price
KZ ZS10 - prob my faves at the moment
Audio technica M50
Bose Soundsport - use for running, so comfortable
Xiaomi - cant remember which model, but they are Xiaomi's most expensive ones
Meelectronics ME6 - were my favorites until they broke
Klipsch x10….until I lost them
Hippo VB - liked them for a while but haven't used for ages
+ more
Why the QC? Patents bro. The ANC is unmatched
OK. I have no need for the ANC so don't see the fuss about it. But to each their own
I mean the ANC is the fuss. Also they are incredibly comfortable, a design I thought some competitors by now would replicate.
Talking of headphones
I'm thinking of getting a DAC to hook up to my Pc
Can anyone recommend a decent quality one that won't break the bank

Sennheiser PXC 550. Perfect for the commute and the office.
Bose QC35
I have a sensitive head so mine are Audio Technica R70X, which are the lightest full-sized cans on the market AFAIK at 210g (without cable).
Custom-made JH Audio JH 13 Pro V2 IEM with a Plussoundaudio X8 Pure Silver + Gold cable.
Fit, comfort and isolation is unbeatable due to it being custom moulded. I use them to listen to music seriously on long haul travel, planes, and trains.
I also have a pair of Custom Art Harmony Pro V2 which I use mainly at home for music and media.
DAP: Astell and Kern AK240 Stainless Steel
Source: Tidal HIFI streaming using mobile data (I do have enough data for this!) , otherwise I buy CDs and rip them to FLAC and store on my DAP.
Gaming: Steelseries Arctis 7 Wireless for team-based games
Microsoft Lifechat LX 3000. On my 3rd pair. $32.00
KMart $19 Bluetooth headphones :D
I have different headphones for different uses, all are good for what they do:
ATH-M50x - for playing PS4 (plug into the controller) or listening to music
Miezu EP51 - for walking to work/around house listening to podcasts
Xiaomi Piston Fresh - plugged into office computer to watch youtube on breaks
Xiaomi Piston Pro IV - for watching youtube videos in bed before sleeping (they live under my pillow)
Collecting headphones became a hobby as I started reading audiophile blogs and joined some groups. I now own a number of headphones including

Bose QC35 II
The Audio Technicas are my all time favorite. The Audio Technica ATHLS50IS is the best value for money headphone ever made. Also the AKGY50BT is a great headphone. The ultrasone and yamahas. The Marshall mode is also great.
You are just shy of a pair for each day of a month, February is a runner.
Lol
TaoTronic TT-BH22 are my best headphones. Followed by my good old Sennheiser HD 202.
I hardly use headphones though. Hence why I don’t really invest a whole lot of money when it comes to headphones. I rather listen to my music or any audio source through speakers rather than headphones.
Nuraphones
First time poster - sorry for the essay. About a year ago I bought a pair of u-Jays Wireless. Very comfy on-ear minimalist design. Great battery life (25hours) and low latency bluetooth. Still going strong. Bought a second pair as wife has commandeered first pair. Paid US$179. Often out of stock. Bought extra ear cushions but haven't needed to replace old ones yet. Good enough to use as ear muffs when I'm using the drop saw and mowing the lawn. The only thing I don't like is that they can slip a little if you move your head too quickly. Awesome with phone and apple TV as well. Sound is good enough for me. If something ever happens to them I would buy another pair straight away. Worth a look… despite mixed reviews. Reviews these days are taken with a grain of salt.
Mostly the ones that came with my wife's Sony Xperia Z2. Lately now though, the ones that came with my wife's Galaxy S9+.
Focal x Massdrop Elex :)
Thinksound on1 and on2
HD600 for use at my desk at home, and either the MEE Pinnacle P1, Tin Audio T2 or Sony WH1000XM2 for portable use with my Hiby R3 DAP.
I've owned so many headphones (at least I thought I had till I read this thread). Focal, Hifiman, AKG and others… yet my favourite is still the very first pair I bought — Alessandro MS-1 with yellow Sennheiser pads. They make everything sound good to my ears.
Is the Bose QC35 II ok for people with big ears?
Are you going for the ANC?
How big are your ears?
Senn HD600
Ditto.
Bose QC35's for work.
Been using Sennheiser HD 25s for 7-8 years. Used vigorously on an almost weekly basis. Replaced the worn padding with OEM parts this year and still working as good as gold :)
Been thinking of storing my headphones in a bell jar. Has anyone had experience with this?
