I'll start, AKG 712 Pros.
Also, no earspeakers (aka electrostatics)! Thanks.

ATH-LS200 for now
I'm just about to drop the money on these myself (but still tossing up b/w picking them up from Minidisc vs. ship forwarding + paying the GST on import from Amazon Japan).
How are you finding their performance, and what genres of music do you usually listen to on them? I spent a while demo-ing them in store and definitely enjoyed them, but that can't compare to the 4+ hours a day I'd be using them otherwise.
I find performance and clarity great. They're pricier than my last set but extremely comfortable with comply tips. They're very balanced which suits me because I listen to a lot of orchestrated music, jazz etc.
Bass is pretty good for a balanced set but some people might want to tweak their equaliser for a litttttttle more.
Ended up caving and getting a pair of the LS200is. Agreed, a lot of my music is orchestral or solo-instrumental and been loving them so far. Might have to drop the $ on a pair of complys (do they darken the sound in your experience compared to stock tips though?) - tried Spinfits through Amazon AU (luckily, free returns) and the sound ends up completely lacking in bass (dropping from fairly tight but not very strong on the stocks, to basically none at all), as well as having basically zero isolation. Super disappointed in the spinfits, for all the fanfare they get…
@merivetio: I found there was no real effect using the complys in audio profile, but the isolation factor went through the roof.
I'm using the comfort plus tsx-500
Just curious, with all the great headphones you own, which music platform/app do you use to listen to music?
i felt those streaming app dont have great quality (even i set to max for quality) and hence not a good match with a pair of great headphones…
I use Tidal with my B&O H9i
i just looked it up, thanks! Do they have a great range of songs?
Deezer is another alternative. Although Tidal wins, hands down, Deezer has some cheap pricing options if you use VPN.
Spotify Premium. I can live with 320kbps knowing I don't have to make custom playlists.
Old school … VLC player with 320kbps MP3.
Amazon music
Oops wrong thread
Don't bother. They stopped offering their storage plans which made them irrelevant. Will use their services again if they offer a massive discount for a trial period.
Beyerdynamics DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm
I also have these. Love them
To OP i was very curious why you wouldnt want electromagnetics in the conversation i thought they are just a different tech to produce sound. Why are they called earspeaker, is there something superior or worse about them?
Earspeakers are in a different league. They blow dynamics and planars out of the water (unless you're listening to low frequency music). Thought I'd keep it interesting by removing this god-tier item.
They're roughly double the price of what 'most' people would consider expensive headphones (HD800s)
The HD800s are headphones. Check out electrostats like Senn Orpheus
ATH-AD700, love them to bits.
I own Sennheiser HD650 Audiophile headphones.
The sound is so crisp with a fantastic balance of highs, lows and bass.
Worth getting.
can't agree more - I'm personally using HD600 siblings, bit brighter sound than HD650, but very similar. I'm also using QC35 (office, outdoors) and there's big gap between the two
AKG K702, so comfy you forget you're wearing 'em.
The ear pads are so fluffy!
Bose QC35 1 (obviously from one of the OzBargain deals!)
Creative Aurvana Live! 2. Headband snapped after just under a year (light home usage), so I completely removed it, re-did the wiring between the drivers, and I use them with an elastic headband. Really enjoyable to listen to after a bit of + EQ on the higher end but can't recommend as I've heard of a few similar cases with the headband snapping.
Meeelec pinnacle p1
Schitt Lyr with Audeze LCD2s
Had HD650s but the Audeze blew them out the water for me.
Always tossing up if I should sell since I rarely get time for a proper listen session, but when I do I love it..
At work use Bose QC35s, they are more than good enough!
I borrowed the LCD2s for a day, the pads were moderately hot and the clamping force hurt after a while. How did you get past that?
I have a pair of Audio Technica ANC9, Audio Technica IM02, Audio Technica IM50 and Shure SE215 Special Edition. The Shure SE215, is used daily.
From everything I've seen on forums, it sounds like the ATH IM02s should completely blow the water out of the comparatively muddy SE215s - do you find this to be the case in the music you listen to?
Sony MDR-Z7, Grado RS1, AKG K712.
My Koss PortaPros (although I admit the styling of it makes the overall experience more enjoyable, which probably affects how much I enjoy the music!)
PortaPros for me too. They are just so good for how little they cost.
I had them but had to sell them due to them being too open….
Open?
@JuliusSeizure: Open backs allow for better bass response, but at the consequence of everyone around you also hearing your sound.
@iDroid: thanks for the comprehensive definition but I was referring to Koss Porta Pros supposed open design. I didn’t know they were open backs
Ad900x
I also really loved my etymotic er6i from way back.
Audeze LCD-X
MrSpeakers Aeon Flow Open
Campfire Audio Orion and Lyra II
Grado sr-80
B&O H6 Gen2, Bluedio Victory for movies & Bose QC20 for travel.
Sold my Sony 1000X, Zik 3 and BW PX as they were uncomfortable.
My best quality headphones are Sennheiser HD598 Open backed (good sound quality, very comfortable for prolonged listening). I switch to Beyerdynamic 770s (closed back) in louder environments. They are well built (made in germany) and almost as comfortable as Sennheiser.
AKG K550 - First time I spent real money on headphones, no regrets.
wow im still rocking the QC15 and still going strong !
Audeze LCD 2 powered by Peachtree nova150. MQA on Tidal through Bluesound Node 2, CDs through Oppo UDP-203, vinyl through Pro-Ject 1 Xpression carbon. Have a Cambridge Audio CXC for sale if anyone is interested
I once bought a Cambridge Audio amplifier from a private seller. It was an unwanted gift, I tested it at his place and I was very pleased. I was stunned to discover the next day there was no headphones socket!
My CXC has no headphone socket either lol
It's purely a CD transport and needs an amp and a DAC. It can't even read MP3 CDs or SACDs lol
there's seem to be a few Audeze users around, did I miss a sale or something?..
Bose QC35 x2 (they came in my WM Caprice)
Soul Ludacris buds (great for BASS) I bought them when they first came out as I didn't want to be a sheep with the Beats garbage!
Sennheiser HD25 II
Xone XD-53
Yeah finally I also have the hd25s.
Are you happy with them? I think they're great except for the soundstage - which I care less about as I mostly listen to EDM.
Great bass extension, decent isolation. I like it better than the high end Sennheiser or AKG with the open backs, despite them being vastly more popular.
Yeah, had a few DJ headphones. These are super comfortable and the sound reproduction for my ears is great. I only use them in a room where isolation isn’t necessary. Probably the best ear/headphone sound I’ve owned.
I have AKGs (low-end) which also have a great sound, very uncomfortable though.
QC25. I can’t afford business class - but I borrowed a pair of these for an international trip and wearing them, I felt like I was in business class. Bought a pair as soon as I returned.
I felt like I was in business class.
I wish it were that easy. Don't try business class or it's hard to go back to economy :(
@idonotknowwhy
:) Thanks, but you don’t have to worry about me flying business - it will never happen.
Sony 1000XM2 - used it in a 16 hrs flight to America last time and now I can't fly without one.
ATH M40X -good balance between qualiy and price , Bose QC35 first gen for being extra comfy
for gym I use these Taotronics bluetooth earphones, they are great for $25 :)
I have allways bought cheap headphone and they never really lasted
Splurged on a pair ATH-M40X's and I'm very happy with the sound
Wow, this is the best place to do a market research.
I am still using my turtle beach px51 wireless as it last more than 24 hrs but the bass is meh.
I feel like we should contact some headphone reps to get exclusive prices for the site’s users.
Sennheiser PXC 550. Really comfortable, great noise cancelling and I've always liked the sennheiser neutral tones.
V Moda Crossfade M100. Purchased a couple of years ago and still extremely happy. Might upgrade to wireless version eventually.
Interesting choice. My first pair of higher end headphones were the LPs. They’re a much more aesthetically pleasing alternative to the Beats design. Also very durable. I really wanted to like the cans but had to return them because they were extremely uncomfortable. If I had changed pads, I doubt there’d be much of an improvement. Also bass was a bit too much.
Sennheiser HD600
I bought a Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC almost a year ago. Definitely the best one's I own, far better quality sound than the x800 Turtle beach headphones I have on my XB/TV at home. The TB's sound so uh, 'muggy' (I guess undefined is probably a more technical term) in comparison
Bang & Olufsen H9
Sennheiser PXC 550
Apple airpods for daily commute due to its mobility, sounds like crap though.
H9 are a great headphone as are the replacement H9i
Final Audio Heaven V
Without a doubt Fostex Massdrop TH-X00 Ebony version. Incredible true bass not the crap they dole out in Beats. Even better than the Sennheiser HD-6XX which I also own. Paired with a Chord Mojo….close to audio Nirvano as my ears are going to get.
Also owned HifiMan HE-4xx and AKG K7xx before, but they paled in comparison to the Fostex and Sennheisers.
Audio-Technica ATH-AD900X - love the open-air design and sound signature. Surprisingly good for identifying location in games: e.g: CSGO
Bass not as punchy as other cans, but still a wonderful pair of headphones.
Bose QC20! Seriously why is everyone stuck on these heavy bulky headphones.
Once you have one and a matching DAC / AMP, it will take your music to the next level.
Some people is happy with Apple Earpods, others may end with QC20, and a few will be willing to invest a little bit more time and effort on a desk system to better enjoy music at home.
Because I asked for headphones, not IEMs
Cause in-ear canal phones are uncomfortable as hell for long periods of usage
I’m the opposite, cans give me hot ears. QC30s for me. Not looking like Princess Leia is a bonus.
As for most expensive: Bose QC35 II
As for best sound: ATH M50 / M50x and Philips SHP9500
AKG K7XX. Basically the K712 but with slightly more bass, slightly less soundstage and a whole lot more waiting.
Bloody love them !
Technically my QC35's are more expensive but outside of a plane, I would use K7XX without hesitation. So much better sounding and comfortable.
Ultrasone PROline 550.
10 years on and still going strong. The ear pads are quite dead though, certainly less comfortable than they used to be
ATH M50X
Sony MDR-XB700
The best I own would be a Grado SR80i.
Sennheiser HD800 and MM-450
No one size fits all.
QC 35 for travel, relaxing. Awesome noise isolation
Phillips SHE3205 wired earphones (Apple rip off design) for daily driver beaters - phone calls all day at work, running, gym. Take a beating, reasonable sound. 30 bucks a pair or cheaper.
QC35. Love being able to tune out of the noisy world sometimes.
64 Audio U8
Oppo PM-3
Do you use it with the HA2s?
Yup! Oppo HA-2SE paired with an Ipod Touch 128GB 6th Gen.
Are they worth it?
@JuliusSeizure: It depends on how much you love your music. Personally, yes it's worth it.
@dhunterzao: hmmm could use it as a desktop dac….
Picked up these the other day:
https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/pc-headpho…
not too bad tbh
You’ll an amp. Think about getting a Chord Mojo, which also provides a DAC
Thoroughly enjoyed my previous TripleFi 10 IEMs when I got a good seal. The only tips that worked for me were the Comply foam tips in new/newish condition, which I found too expensive to replace and maintain. Sold them off for AirPods for pure convenience.
Also have a pair of Sony WH1000XM2 for when I need to block out the kids and chill, they are nice but do miss the TF10 which were very fun to listen to. Leads me to wonder if I should have got the B&W PX but none were available to demo.
Stereonet? Look into an oppo
