i bought one long ago $99 from the good guys,
everything is good but just beware of the 30min running time with 8hr charging.

  • Which one is better, the BRAUN one or Philips one?

    • +2

So both have good/bad points, but personally I prefer the multiple heads on the Philips versus the one large one for the Braun. I find I tend to get shaver burn from pressing too hard with shavers like the Braun, whilst it's harder (but not impossible) to do that with the Philips. The only issue I have with the Philips is it is a little harder to shave right under the nose. Oh, you may find some people say the multiple head shavers like the Philips don't shave as close - but you need to learn a different way of shaving - basically you move the shaver in a rotary pattern rather than just up/down.

Oh, and register the shaver online - they have a really good 24 month warranty. I had one die after 13 months (due to water getting into the 'waterproof' body) and they replaced it without an issue. After having the water issue with the handle, I now shave using gel just before having a shower - and pop off the head and rinse that and my face in the shower.

      • I also was trying to decide which to buy. Great review and very helpful advice - thank you PlasticSpaceman!

$68 @ Harvey Norman and includes a bonus Remington Groom & Go Precision Kit. Free C&C or Free Shipping w/ Shipster. Ends up being only $1.10 more expensive than this deal once shipping is factored in.

  • Just curious - with people that have these electric shavers.. do you get a closer shave than with a traditional razor? I know you can get pretty close with something like a 3 pass shave with a normal one, but does this get nearly or as close?

I own this electric shaver. It does NOT get close as a 4 blade disposable gilette shaver.

Thanks! I’ve always wondered how close they actually do get, but I guess nothing beats the traditional. Still, wouldn’t mind an electric for the time saved.

    • Nah. Blade will always be closer. With an electric shaver it can (just not always) be quicker, more convenient, potentially cheaper…. Less risk of cuts when sleep deprived…. Also I tended to get ingrown hair with a blade because it was too close. All personal though.

      • Is that what causes ingrown? I've always wondered… Shaved in different directions, used different products but the multiple ingrown are hideous…

      • So electric shavers are better/gentler on the skin as well then?

    • it just works out cheaper than buying a million gillette mach3 cartridges, having tried the chinese ones that dont cut and the family packs that work out more expensive per head. It also avoids running out and being half shaved because your razor is blunt.

      • Check out reddit.com/r/wicked_edge - double edge razor shaving is definitely the way to go for closeness/cost/environmental effect

I use both electric and blade for best of both worlds. I have thickish facial hair. To be presentable I need to shave everyday but sometimes I skip a day on weekends. I shave with a Gillette fusion twice a week. Mostly on mondays if I’ve skipped a shave on the weekend then maybe on thursday or Friday. I use a Panasonic foil shaver the rest of the days. It does make life easier to use an electric and it’s cheaper. A $99 electric shaver will go for about 3 years at 4 shaves a week. So you get about 600 shaves with those numbers. You maybe get 12 shaves per blade on a Gillette razor which are about $4 each so total equivalent cost is 50 blades x $4 = $200 so the cost is about double an electric.

I find For the first two days after a razor shave my electric does a good job. But then there are strays at angles that the electric isn’t good at getting so results diminish. So then I go for the razor and continue the cycle.

Probably the best thing about electric is it’s softer on the skin. You aren’t knocking your face around so much each day. No cuts and less ingrown too. I found phiilishaves not to be very good for a thick growth. Prefer foil shavers by far like pana and braun.

  • Good price on both items. But NiMh batteries aren’t the best. That could explain the low prices though.
