TP-Link Archer VR600 AC1600 VDSL/ADSL Modem Router $143.20 (Was $179) Delivered @ Shopping Express Clearance eBay

PARENT

To add to list of eBay deals ( https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/397912 ) that might be worth checking. The router can be bought at $143.20 using the promo code PARENT. It's in the list of compatible FTTN NBN routers from Whirlpool http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/fttn_registered_modem_router , and pretty popular among the Whirlpool users based on the threads I've read.

Edit:
Please note the eBay listing doesn't indicate if it's a V1 or V2 version of the product. (See comments below) Both versions are in the Whirlpool list of FTTN compatible routers

Before buying, please call your internet provider ask about the router's compatibility with their service.

It's $100 at EB Games, though not available in all stores and is supposed to be V1 (yet there are comments about people actually receiving the V2). Officeworks was however happy to price match the V2 for me a few weeks ago.

Also, I wouldn't purchase the one in that eBay listing without first confirming it's the V2 variant since the listing doesn't specify.

    • Thanks for the helpful info. I'll edit the original post to include your comments on the versions.

  • The specs and pictures indicate it is V2. The V1 has 2 USB ports and the V2 has 1.

Also this used to be on sale quite often for cheaper (~$115-120?) but I haven't been monitoring the prices lately.

  • Sigh. Can confirm this is a good router. Can also confirm it's regularly on sale for $100-120 (since I bought it at around $140 too and have been bitter about that ever since haha).

    • does it have traffic management?

      • Yes, but fairly basic. I personally don't use those features much - it's just a simple home router for me.

        • Thanks, will this work for ADSL 2+ as well or is it an NBN modem only

        • @kehuehue: I have ADSL 2+ so works for that perfectly fine. Only real thing is that it's basically an outdated model that's close to, if not already, end-of-lifed I think (though I'm not really sure after trying to have a l ook), if you care about ongoing firmware updates, and cutting edge features (I'm not sure this is missing any feature off the top of my head though - the newest standard is AC wifi and this supports that).

  • Agree, can be bought for around $110. Have been using for about 10 months now but no firmware updates available and the wireless channels are limited I guess.

    • There's a Beta firmware update out - but I think all it does is fix an issue with using Google Home and other devices (chromecast, etc). Not sure if it improved (or even degraded?) performance.

  • I have this, works well for me. FTTN sync speed increase after swapping out the free one that came with Belong. Wifi performance is average, nothing to rave about.
