Citizen Satellite Wave Watches

In as little as 3 seconds, watches with satellite wave technology receive a GPS signal that adjusts to new time zones with amazing speed and ease. With coverage across 40 of the existing UTC standard time zones, watches with satellite wave technology ensure the most accurate time in any conventional watch. SATELLITE WAVE GPS watches feature Satellite Wave function. Satellite Wave captures position data and a time signal from GPS satellites orbiting in space to automatically adjust time and date. Your GPS watch will display the precise time wherever you are on Earth, as long as there is open sky above you. Note that the CC1085-52E & CC1084-55E only receive time signals, you still need to set the timezone manually. The CC9025-51E receives both location and time signals.

All watches contain Eco-Drive technology. Never change a battery. Imagine… A timepiece that never needs a battery change and will run forever. Citizen Eco-Drive technology converts natural and artificial light sources into energy. It recharges continuously in any kind of light to run forever.

    Excellent effort OP.

    • +2

      Cheers PJC.

      • +2

        He likes to see prices.

        • +2

          Bargains have prices.

    • Got bored, nothing on Netflix;-) Checked out the CC1084-55E and it only checks one satellite. I.e. no location tracking, no automatic time zone updates. Citizen are still trying to offload old models onto the Oz market. If you want Citizen, do yourself a favour and import a new model from an OS dealer…

      • This is stated in the OP:

Note that the CC1085-52E & CC1084-55E only receive time signals, you still need to set the timezone manually. The CC9025-51E receives both location and time signals

I guess it was buried in a wall of text so it's easy to miss :)

      • Anyone else notice that the Novak Djokovic special edition shows MEL instead of SYD on the outer rim for the time zones ?

Guessing it's because that's where the Open is.

If only the band was metallic I'd buy it…

  • -7

Rather get an Omega Seamaster used any day..

    • +1

      how much are they roughly?

    • Can you show me one for ~$1k with the features of the above watches?

    • +2

I'd rather pick up a Citizen Attesa for the price any day.

It's entirely subjective. A mechanical watch with +/- 15 seconds a day vs a watch with +/- 5 seconds a month along with GPS, 2 year power reserve and perpetual calendar.

If you're taking about superior "time keeping" the Citizen wins by an order of magnitude. Of course people buy watches for the appearance and that means a subjective factor.

      • Spot on!

      • -4

Entirely subjective as you say…Don't understand why am i getting downvoted for my opinion, comes off as quite bitter

The history and significance of a Seamaster probably makes it top 3 most iconic watches of all time, it's something that you can easily hand down for generations to come.

Can't say the same about a citizen attesa.

If i wanted a watch for timekeeping then I'd be getting a digital/atomic or stick to my phone.

        • +3

Don't understand why am i getting downvoted for my opinion, comes off as quite bitter

It's akin to commenting on a deal about Tesla sedans saying "I'd rather get a used Lamborghini Murcielago". Missing the point and the price bracket…

  • -4

or you could look at the GPS time (same function) on your phone and save $1K??

    • -1

      That’s crazy talk!! Loll

    • How do you enjoy wearing your phone on your wrist along with a suit 😂

      • Umm…smart watch..!??

    • +1

Worth every cent not to be mistaken for one of those sad losers who checks their phone messages every two minutes.

  • +3

A part of me wonders if someone who buys these watches would even be on ozbargain lol.

    • +6

richest people often have the tightest of arses!

  • OP thanks for the deal - would you know of any model of watches which are both stylish (like the ones listed) AND have functions like barometer, altimeter etc.? Casio's ProTreks are feature packed but not very stylish IMO…

    • +1

      Cheers.
Yes, Citizen have a special PROMASTER range that caters to the adventurer of the sky, land and sea.
The models that may interest you are the Citizen Altichrons. Starbuy have 2 versions: Black with Polyurethane BN4044-15E and Green with Nylon BN4045-12X.
See if they suit your style. Good luck.

      • +2

Just saw the BN4044-15E is on Amazon for the same price ($399). Can also get 6% cashback through CR or SB.

        • That's great. It's also fulfilled by Starbuy so it'll be Express Shipped as well, with the great customer service to boot.

        • @MathNerd: Also BN0191-80L - $319.

      • Speaking of Promasters… I'd love to see a better price on the BN0200's, even just the rubber strap version.

Also, will Starbuy be bringing in the Promaster Tough models?

      • +1

Thanks for the comprehensive comment, as well as to the others for the answers. Any chance for a watch to have these features as well as a solar back to remove any need for charging? For me that's the dream watch 😎

    • +1

      Consider this.

  • I'm really hanging out for a deal on the Citizen NJ0090-21L or NJ0090-13P … wishful thinking , I guess.
Such a nice watch : Automatic, titanium, sapphire crystal, and a nice clean look.

  • Hi all watch enthusiasts and bargain hunters, my dad's been wanting a Rolex for a very long time, his birthday is coming up so I want to spoil him. I know bugger all about Rolex so your advices are really appreciated.

Budget is under $10,000. Dad's willing to get second hand one. He's a mid 60 and has small build Asian wrist so not fancy anything too big. He also knows nothing about Rolex so anything with a Rolex badge and nice looking will do for him. Also willing to purchase from oversea if price is good.

I subscribed to this thread, if you have any question please fire away. Thank heaps.

    • +2

You can get new at that price range - in fact at $10k mark you can also include a complication or two (like date window)

Given the profile for your father I'd assume you'd want something less blingy/more classic, and on the smaller, thinner side.

Take a look at the Oyster Perpetual, which is about as classic as it can get. Also look at Datejust (includes date window) and Day-date (include date window and day window). You'd probably want size at ~38mm

HK and Sing have bigger watch markets, it's kind of limited in Australia. With Rolex you may be able to negotiate a small discount from authorised retailers (typically a bigger discount for other brands). Or you can try grey market sites on-line, with added risk.

Finally - watchuseek is a watch dedicated forum which would have more info

      • he isnt getting a day date for 10k, even used you would be pushing it. Get a new datejust, they are bang on 10k and are timeless pieces

        • ^ true - it looks like all day dates use precious metals?

    • +1

Go for a Datejust or Oyster Perpetual as per majormick's suggestion. The range and stock availability of Rolex watches in Australia is fairly poor but hopefully the classic models are still obtainable unlike the diver models which seem to go the way of the Dodo here.

You'll get more replies on Watchuseek and Rolex Forums one would think. Rolex and OzBargain is not really a good combination.

    • Rolex datejust or submariner

    • +1

This thread has some info on places to buy in Sydney
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/383331

The Rolex website shows RRP - why not see what styles he likes online and then go try on in person? Oyster PP, datejust, sub, Explorer, explorer II, Milgauss all in that budget you might need to wait a bit for stock depending on the model.

You don’t save much going second hand on the stainless steel models looking at second hand dealer prices - unless he really wants a fairly old gold watch and happy to extend the budget a bit there’s not a lot of need to go second hand.

    • Grey market will be cheaper, try chrono24 (comparison site) or jomashop (standalone store)

    • +1

Definitely worth a look here. Just saw a good Submariner here earlier this week.

      Cheers

  • Not in the market ATM, so haven't checked these out. Just a warning, some GPS watches don't automatically adjust to the local time zone. If you are after something that will automatically set the local time when you get off the plane, triple check the model… Also when I purchased mine around a year ago, all models had manual daylight savings adjust, I suspect this is still the case.

    • +1

some GPS watches don't automatically adjust to the local time zone

That's deliberate. To have a watch constantly check for a signal at every x hours would consume quite a bit of power. Therefore, it's a manual procedure. Press a button for 2 seconds or so and it'll start searching for a signal :)

all models had manual daylight savings adjust, I suspect this is still the case

Correct. Sometimes, timezones are subject to change so it's not wise to harcode Daylight Savings (sometimes called Summer Time, or SMT) into these watches. It's simple enough to switch between it being on or off anyway :)

      • +1

It's not deliberate. Cheaper versions get the GPS time, but not location. I can't comment on these, but my model checks the GPS several times a day so long as the battery has sufficient charge and it has sunlight on the dial. Otherwise, the check is not as frequent. You can also force a check.

Anyway, just a warning for people to check. Not something many people would think might be an issue.

        • What's your model? Sounds like a pretty top-of-the-line one :)

        • +1

          @MathNerd:
Not top of the line, it just had the most recent movement when I purchased it. This is the one:
          https://www.jomashop.com/citizen-watch-cc3020-57l.html

When I purchased, it had been released OS for nearly a year, but Citizen were still pushing the old models on Aussies, that did not check GPS location. As I say, not sure if this is still the case, and don't have time to check… Buyer beware;-)

        • @mostlygordon: I see, not bad! It is a classic looking watch, it'll be hard to tell that it's a GPS one based just off the look. It's got the F150 movement which was a step-up from the older F100 movement which couldn't check for location data!

        • @MathNerd:
It's my travel watch. Wearing a Ball certified chronometer today:-)

        • I think that was a generation change that evolved into a model level thing around 2015 or so. It's a little bizarre, I have one of the Timex Global Trainers I got for a couple of hundred bucks as an obsolete model at Noosa Triathlon and I can remember sitting watching it in LA in mid 2013 as it gradually got GPS reception and figured out it was in LA and not Brisbane and adjusted the time.

  • -1

If I'm going to pay $1,000 for a watch, it would want to have no less than an 8bps mechanical movement!

    • +1

Only 8? Though call between these I recon;-)

      • The Grand Seiko has been tempting me for a while.
Didn't know about the other, it looks very nice though.

  • -1

Hm…this or $600 iwatch that can adjust the timezone automatically based on my iphone time setting…

    • Easy. If you are not a watch person, stick with the iwatch.

    • +2

I have an Apple Watch and Wear OS. These can be useful if you need to quickly check data without getting out your phone. But, you need to pack a charger, and if the cable gets lost you are SOL. You can't expect more than 3 years out of them before they are completely obsolete. And, there is that having to flick the wrist (doesn't always work) or tap the screen to get it to wake up.

A good quality watch from a respected watch maker will last, and if you pick a classic will always be in fashion. I have some of the first Seiko Solar's that I still wear. Seem to be going though a bit of an automatic phase ATM, but I'm sure that will change when they need a service LOL

      • I have used a few different watches for travel and by far the best I've found is the Garmin Fenix 5 series.

Battery Life of up to 1-2weeks means no need to pack a charger. Screen is always on, time automatically updates via phone or independently via GPS. Sapphire glass option and it also has a breadcrump trail option and you can add POIs for example your hotel and can always have the watch guide you back with a simple Arron and distance.

I also use for crafting GPX tracks so I can add location data to photo's on a map.

And it will also work with either iOS and Android and I haven't even touched on the additional health tracking.

        • Garmin Fenix 5 looks nice, and on sale at QANTAS store ATM. Must resit…

  • Watch in picture in picture. Would be great if it didn't have so much text on it

    • +1

Of course, once Watch OSes get Netflix, all bets are off;-) Watches will then need to be 16:9 of course.

      • 2160p UHD with HDR and OLED.

  • +1

    Hi,

does this come with a GST invoice?

also say if i order today, how long would it take to deliver to sydney metro? i am catching a flight on thursday morning

    • does this come with a GST invoice?

Yes. The invoice is from Star Jewels Pty Ltd, ABN 89 116 447 806. 100% Australian Brand New Stock.

if i order today, how long would it take to deliver to sydney metro

These watches (and everything Starbuy sells) are Express Shipped (stated numerous times in the OP). It will be sent Monday, arrive Tuesday. Plenty of time to play with it before you head off on Thursday.

    • +1

You can also pick up at their Pitt Street office if required. I've done that three times.

      • +1

Yes, PJC makes a good point. If you live in Sydney, it's a no-brainer to go there on Monday morning and pick it up, so you can have an extra day to play with it.

  • Nice. Bought 10.

    • +2

Nice. Now to find a deal for 10 hands.

  • "Note that the CC1085-52E & CC1084-55E only receive time signals, you still need to set the timezone manually. The CC9025-51E receives both location and time signals"

What does this mean, in laymans terms?

    • +2

The CC1085-52E & CC1084-55E can "interpret" only the time signal component of the GPS signal that's all around us (AFAIK, these GPS signals contain the time for all the timezones of the world). However, in order to interpret this signal correctly, it needs to know which "band" of the component to analyse. Therefore, you use the crown to set the timezone (all the 3 letter codes on the outer ring), and then it knows which part of the signal to lock onto.

The CC9025-51E can interpret both the time signal component and location signal component of the GPS signal, by using triangulation from multiple GPS satellites. Therefore, it can tell where you are and what time it is at that place.

That's probably laymans terms I hope?

      • +1

So the former knows what time it is in each timezone, but doesn't know which timezone you're in. Gotcha

        • Spot on! Haha!

  • Ahem…dumb question, but does anyone know a good way to buff your wrists (forearms?) up? I have weakling 6.5 inch wrists which suits about a 40 case diameter but I love all of these larger case watches that keep getting posted.

    • I could answer that but my comment will probably get unpublished for being inappropriate. You know what I mean.

    • Wax on, wax off.

    • I have a 6" wrist and wear 44mm watches. I am still handsome :). Wearing Seiko Baby turtle and a Turtle looks OK.

  • Does anyone know if the rechargeable battery be replaced if required / how many years these watches last?

    • +1

These watches will last well into the 10+ year mark, I'd even hedge on them lasting 20+ years. They're very good quality.

  • +1

Good price for the Astron in titanium. I got the SS one for the same price, albeit dual-time

    • I can't wait to pull the trigger on an Astron myself!

  • Damn I bought 3 watches already…

    • +2

You can never have too many watches!
