Watch shopping in Singapore

Going to Singapore on holidays early next year - wanted to know if anyone has been shopping for watches there and what the prices are like compared to Sydney? Looking at a Rolex explorer.

This thread had some good tips looks like I’d go to Shums if buying in Sydney:

In Singapore I think there might be more competition / discounting, but I don’t have much idea what the RRP is. This grey dealers prices for subs look worse than RRP in Syd considering the current exchange rate:

Not likely to buy at the Sydney airport boutique - I’d rather take a smaller discount at an AD than try avoid paying tax.

Also has anyone claimed back GST in Singapore / does this take a long time?

Any input is much appreciated, thanks

Consider also TRS with an Aussie retail purchase.

  • That’s true - it’s only 2 adults and 2 kids travelling though so technically only a limit of $2700 I think if I was to declare the goods.

Claiming GST back at Changi Airport is easy, just make sure you have all the documentation.

DO NOT declare the watch at Australian Customs, just wear it.

If you wish to be safe, simply mail the box from Singapore to your home.

Buying a popular professional watch can be cheaper in Australia.

I'm not sure about the Explorer but other professional Rolex watches can be cheaper here.

I bought a watch in Singapore last year and applied for a refund at the eTRS (electronic Tourist Refund Scheme) self-help kiosk in the Departure Transit area. At the kiosk, after swiping my passport and eTRS ticket (from the retailer), I opted to have the refund credited to my credit card. It was in my account in about a week (or less, I forget).
